DO THAT BLOG QUICKLY !
I'm not quite sure they realise...
...do they blog fans ?
This little daily missive may not be the floweriest excerpts of writing but it deserves a bit more due than...
"Do that blog quickly !"
I wouldn't mind but I'm not in late and have been here for most of the day anyway, after taking my daughter and her mum to see the Take That special this morning.
Technically, according to my normal schedule, I still have 29 minutes left to write today's words.
Alright so, I admit, we have a lot on our collective plates today as Christmas kicks in big time on drivetime tonight.
After Womans' Minute every day between now and Crimble we are playing Christmas singles, that is songs you received as your first ever single at Christmas, not songs necessarily about Christmas... tonight we kick off with mine...from 1972....Chuck Berry's - My Ding-a-ling, I must have played it fifty times a day for at least a year.
So come on then... all week, we need yours and no fibbing.
You must have received this song at Christmas, on vinyl, in your pillow case, or sack or whatever it was Santa used to fill for you and it must have been your first record EVER!
We were going to ease Christmas in steadily over the next week but then we thought, what the heck, John Lewis don't decorate one floor at a time do they?
So, we are officially full on, cooking on Christams gas from five tonight until the big man, himself shows up on the 25th.
By the way Take That were very endearing this morning, a lot of the stuff that didn't get aired was hilarious and heart warming, some of it will be on the web tomorrow.
Other than that, loads more going on, however I feel I must move swiftly in to the music meeting and leave a longer chat until tomoz.
CLP.
2008.

First Xmas song I received was Rolf Harris and 2 little boys had 2 little toys and on the B side was The Ladies of the Harem of the Court of Kung Caraticus Can pretty much remeber all of it still.
Great record both sides. Still get chills listening to 2 little boys.

thing was, I had won a fancy dress party at school and the prize was a record token - I had never bought a record before and didn't really know what I was doing. Honest!

Oh hurrah Christoff welcome back and marvellous re. the Christmas songs.
As it happens my first-ever record that I bought as an ickle tadpole, used to drive the DDF Eric up the wall with it on repeat on me little red Dansette, was "Lonely Pup" by Adam Faith.
Happy Days. In the days when I was the first in our street to have a trouser suit, used to leg it to the corner shop for a packet of Spangles and if I'd told me mother Renee I was bloggin' I'd have had a crack round the back of me ear and me mouth washed out with Swarfega.

On the Christmas theme, Renee has just reminded me of a lovely tale regarding when the DDF Eric was a small boy.
The youngest of a brood, Eric had tried hard to be asleep by the time Father Christmas (the old War Hero Granddad) crept down the chimmeney and into his room with his sack of tangerines, a penny whistle and other miscellaneous sh**e that today's ankle-biters would contact Childline over. Therefore once all was quiet on the Western Front, up he went. All of a sudden, all Hell let loose and Eric's roaring nearly brought the roof in. Grandma shot straight upstairs to see all the kids up and surrounding a red-faced and nasty-tempered Father Christmas. "Eric!" says Grandma. "What've I told you? You're supposed to be asleep when Father Christmas comes in or you won't get any presents."
"I WAS," wailed Eric. "But he stood on me bloody hand."
What a hero.

That guy from John Lewis had no idea what he was talking about. The reduction in VAT from 17.5% to 15% means that a Product previously priced at £100 will now cost £97.87 - a reduction of £2.12 (*NOT* £2.50). No wonder our economy is in such dire straights if the Directors of large retail institutions such as John Lewis have no understanding of basic maths!

Nice one SBP.
First single, for Christmas. I was 9. Crazy Little Thing Called Love. And, the best bit of all? I still have it in a box in the loft.
Must go and dig it out......
This must already be going down as the weirdest Christmas I have ever known.
Normally I am about as far from 'the spirit' on the first of December as you can be, you know, not wishing to peak too early and all that, but this year I am right on it. The show today helped that feeling along quite nicely too. Is it something to do with all the doom and gloom around that we are all reaching out for something to smile about and Christmas is there, being handed to us on a plate?
But this really is a Christmas of contrast.
We felt it inappropriate to have a do at work as people have been laid off and we thought that having a bash with their former colleagues wasn't the right thing to do, so we canned it. And yet we are off to Mrs MfR's company do on Saturday, a black tie affair celebrating the massive project they are currently working on.
The shops are full of people, whether or not they are buying anything remains to be seen, and yet shops and businesses are going to the wall left right and centre.
All very, very strange.
Still. Good to see one festive tradition in full swing.
Those, ahem, wonderful lights that people adorn their houses with. Don't get me wrong, I love them, but some of them, come on.
But have you ever noticed? You never, ever see anyone putting them up. They simply appear. And come January, they will disappear as if by magic.
Apart from at that strange house on the edge of the village where they have kept them up for over five years now.
Peace etc
MfR
PS 50 cents on the dollar

LOL Matt - i didn't know we lived near ach other - we have a run-down cottage on the village edge: christmas lights up all year round. Reminds me of that Redneck Woman song .....
And Crazy Little Thing Called Love was the first single I bought with my own money - I was at Walthamstow Market with my nan! She was horrified, being as she was a huge Al Martino fan (you and your Spanish Eyes ...... )
Back to the Christmas Lights, me and Himself go for evening walks round the various housing estates here and award our very own "Turner Prizes" for the tackiest, and the prettiest, and the twinkliest, and the chaviest ..... it's a good game! Trust me! Even better if you can't agree and have to retire to the local to sit in front of their fire to chew the fat and decide who the winners should be!
We're not having a company do either this year. Suits me - way too many politics at christmas parties to enjoy ones-self.

Oooo my first ever comment on the blog.
I've been reading this blog for ages now and with CLP away last week I took the oppotunity to read every blog since 2006! Yep it took a while but each one seemed to refer to something that had taken place before so it was like starting a book halfway through and I wanted to go back and read the beginning. It was actually a really interesting read and was amazing to see how CLP has changed since the first blogs. I was also amazed that in 2006 he said in one blog before he had even met Natasha that he was going to buy a new house and find a wife and by the end of 2007 he was in his new house with a beautiful wife and now they have a baby on the way. How many people in this world can decide to do something like that and make it happen within a year!
Anyway, I felt like I had to post a comment today just to say how much I loved the show this evening. I was wondering if I was ever going to get the fastive feeling this year and by the end of the show my inner fairylights were definiftely switched on! I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's show.

Your Mum and daughter must have had a ball this morning!! Lucky lasses!!! I should imagine the boys are quite a laugh in th flesh, so to speak!
Ok, first Christmas single I received. It was 1980, I was 11 years old, my sister was 2 and my brother was 10 months old.
It was the year in which -
the exiled Mugabe returned to Rhodesia to lead Zimbabwe into independance;
the Alexander Kielland oil rig platform collapsed, with 123 lost;
the secret attempt by the US to rescue American hostages in the seized US embassy in Tehran failed;
the SAS brought to an end the seige in the Iranian embassy in London;
Mount St Helens in Washington State erupted;
the Marlborough diamond has been stolen in a £1m robbery in Knightsbridge;
Hercules the bear went missing on the island of Benbecula;
war broke out between Iran and Iraq;
Thatcher gave her 'The lady's not for turning!' speech;
the Queen became the 1st British monarch to have a state visit to the Vatican;
Reagan beat Carter to become US President;
the Labour party chose Michael Foot as its leader;
and we were still in shock from John Lennon's shooting earlier that month.
Are the memories flooding back??
I attended my first High School dance that year in deep red velvet peddle-pushers with white tights and a white ruffled blouse, and was delighted to be asked for a dance with Mr Logan, my English teacher, who I had a massive crush on. (May he rest in peace, taken from us at such a young age.)
And my Christmas single in that year's stocking was Ant Music by Adam and the Ants!!! Lovely, pretty boy that he was!! My bedroom wall was plastered in posters of him!

Evening each - missed most of the show tonight (on purpose one may ask!!??)- apart from Bingo on the travel!? What were Bagpusses choices and Jovial ? were you on? (ding dong indeed).
Afraid I had a senior moment - and left house to take the post (as well as 4 other things to do buzzing in my brain) - locked office then house - opened car - no post! Not even stamped up - all sitting there waiting to be done! duh!
So been sitting quietly watching the box (spooks was really good tonight) keeping out of trouble.

First record bought specifically for chrimble, (Oh God it gets worse) Joe Dolce - Shaddup you face!

Morning!
Inspired by Sir Pository the Togmeister nd his marvellous Hippopotamus song, I've just remembered something excellent.
Not only was my first-ever contribution to the modern-day musical heritage of the nation "Lonely Pup In A Christmas Shop" by Adam Faith, hot on its heels came "Nellie The Elephant".. can't quite remember the name of the mad chanteuse but it was bloody marvellous and maybe I shall nominate these two landmarks in cultural history for the Gobsmackers.
Hurrah.
Anyway good luck today, Debs. Stay strong.
And phreen. After your awful day in work yesterday, cheered up by Chestnuts Roasting, try my little version tonight. As follows.
Chipmunks roasting on an open fire,
Black Forest Gateau up your nose,
Yuletide logs being thrown by a choir,
Egg yolks dressed up in Marie-Rose,
Everybody knows roast turkey stuffed with mistletoe
Starts the season with a fight,
Nineteen shots, twelve mince pies in a row,
You'll find it hard to sleep tonight.
You know old Santa's on his way,
He's loaded booze and pheasants on his sleigh,
And every pint of mild will make you spy
That pigs and reindeers really fly.
And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To bloggers, two to ninety two,
And though it's been said many times, many ways,
Merry Christmas, Christoffe's listeners, Merry Christmas to yous.

Clodagh that was brilliant!
We have a Christmas challenge at work that we have to make up new lyrics to songs about the project that we're working on. This years theme is Abba tunes but I'm finding it hard to get inspiration as I had an Abba tribute band for my birthday party last year. The others have been hard at work though and so far we have alternatives to SOS, Money Money Money, Dancing Queen, Does your mother know, Waterloo and The winner takes it all.
Feeling a bit better this morning but have invested in baroca, V first defence and DayNurse/Night nurse (other cold remedies are available) and I ight follow the Max Beesley cure all of making some home made ginger tea for good measure.
Got the tiler coming today to start the conservatory floor so that hopefully I can get the Crimble dec's up before Friday.

Morning Bloggers,
My "Advent" guess for today is a Christmas stocking.
First record I ever brought was Summer Nights and I sat down in Woolies and cried because my parents didn't think it was appropriate - but I got my own way.
First Christmas record not sure, but I do remember buying "All I want for Christmas is You" for a boy I liked - he got the hint, but it wasn't reciprocated unfortunately.
Lyndyloo - glad you are feeling a bit better, but keep taking the medicine!
It was sooooo good to have CLP back yesterday.

I'll think on that one; what immediately springs to mind given your poorly-sick condition is 'I Have The Cream,.. Vitamin C,..To help me through...my malady..' or 'Thankyou For The Flu (Sick),..For giving it to me, la la la etc.,.. but I've to get going now; have to be in Manchester for 11 so I'll get the old Abba CDs on in the car and get back to you later.

Blogging Queen lyrics
You can post, you can scribe, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that screen, diggin' the Blogging Queen
Friday night the blog lights are low
Chris has finished, no place to go
Lyndy play’s the right music, Debbie’s in the swing
Susan’s come in to look for a king
Dissing Dave could be that guy
Matt is young and Bingo’s high
With a bit of rock music, Clodagh is fine
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the Blogging Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Blogging Queen, feel the beat from the laptop steam
You can post, you can scribe, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that screen, diggin' the Blogging Queen
Cheryl’s a teaser, she turns 'em on
Leave them burning and then she’s gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You're in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance...
You are the Blogging Queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Blogging Queen, feel the beat from the laptop steam
You can post, you can scribe, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that screen, diggin' the Blogging Queen

Wishing every show was the last show

So imagine I was glad to hear you’re coming

Suddenly I feel all right

‘cause somewhere on the blog there’s you
talking to twenty thousand of your friends
How can anyone ever be lonely
Part of a success that never ends
Still I’m thinking about you only
(still I’m thinking about you only)
There are moments when I think I’m going crazy
(think I’m going crazy)
But it’s gonna be alright
(you’ll soon be changing everything)
Everything will be so different
When I’m on the blog tonight
Tonight the
Super blogger words are gonna find me
Shining like the sun

Smiling, having fun
(sup-p-per blog-g-ger)
Feeling like a number one

But I won’t feel blue
(sup-p-per blog-g-ger)
Like I always do
(sup-p-per blog-g-ger)
‘cause somewhere on the blog there’s you
So I’ll be there when you arrive
The sight of you will prove to me I’m still alive
And when you take me in your arms
And hold me tight
I know it’s gonna mean so much tonight
Tonight the
Super blogger words are gonna find me
Shining like the sun
(sup-p-per blog-g-ger)
Smiling, having fun

lurker here, posting for the second time. I've spent the last couple of days reading the very long blog when Chris was away, and this one, and they really cheered me up! I know my problem will seem minor compared to some of the stuff others are going through, but I wondered how long it is before you stop getting cross with other people on behalf of your children! My daughter started Uni this year, and is having a brill time, but all the friends she made at school seem to have disappeared off the planet, not answering her texts or her FB postings. She doesn't seem too worried, but I'm really upset for her! Anyway, she's coming home this weekend to put up the family tree, so I'll just give her lots of hugs, and make her a roast dinner.
I thought parenting got easier as they got older, but maybe not.
Debbie: good luck with your teen, and your new job;
HLS: hope the limpet isn't stressing you too much, and you get some sleep soon;
and finally, to the lady who has been given notice on the sett (sorry, can't remember your name, and haven't got time to go back through the whole blog), but I really hope you get something sorted out very soon. I can't begin to imagine how stressful that must be.
Back to lurking for a while! Have a good Xmas everyone.

I would rather be eating that Pastie by the sea with you, rather than the two Marines.

Feeling a bit disolusioned today - the short story goes somethin like this....................
My ex husband (who never see's our two beautiful girls) emails to say he is giving up his well paid job to be a house husband to his youngest daughter and his new wife will support him so very sorry but no more money to help me bring up his other two children. Me asks him would you like to help care for youngest daughter so I can work a few more hours (he lives 10 mins away from me) - the answer comes back - no tough..........................

Yes, if it were not for the children who were let down, the story could have been quite amusing.
Santa taking smoke breaks round the back of the Grotto, getting punched by an irrate customer. The Elf getting a slap in the Gingerbread house. It's like a Little Britain sketch.

PP - like your idea. Round my way, 'Santa' was once shot (but not killed) with a BB gun.
Always think it could be featured in an episode of Shameless.

AF. Something I remember from my days of competency based applications was always to remember STAR:
Situation; what was the context of what you did, e.g. staff being resistant to a change
Task: What you did, e.g. changed people's attitude;
Action: how you did it, e.g. ran workshops etc
Result: what was the end result, hopefully a positive one!
Hope that helps.

I didn't read the bit about Santa having a fag break behind the grotto. The story you read sounds even worse than the one i did on BBC news. I bet there was also a sign up saying . . . "closed for lunch" *sigh* There appears to be a LOT of backlash against the company concerned (i'm sure i seem to remember that there's THREE facebook campaigns against it although i might have got two stories mixed up)

Did anyone hear Max Beesley on the radio/tv (not sure which) the other day saying his cure for a cold coming on was to take some fresh ginger, cut it up, pour on boiling water and then squish it up, pass it through a strainer and drink it? Well I'm trying it with some added fresh squeezed lime (for the vit c) and can say honestly that it's gawjus if nothing else... much like the man himself!

Hi everyone:
Can I just say what a great blog this is today. Wonderful songs, great support - almost making me forget that I am terrified to go home tonight as the street I live on is Torvill & Dean city! I managed to get to work at 1pm today, yes, 1pm! Ice, ice and more ice. Really don't know how I will get home.
In the meantime: lovely to see Greyhound and Janet joining the blog.
Cathmel #165: how DOES he live with himself? This happened to my sister too, so I understand. Yes, by all means try to get the money out of him, but you know what? His day is coming ... believe me. Some day, just like my ex-brother in law, he will be needing his children and they will not be there. It's horrible, but karma exists for a reason. Please don't think I am vindictive, I'm really not, but I have seen this first hand. Your girls have you - aren't they so lucky?!
Annie #169: great anser to Janet, and how true. I didn't realise that when I had MsS, I was signing up for life! Also, how can you be a loser? You're the greatest grandmum ever!
Steve: I did hear your mention last night, and I thought ..... it must be our Steve!
AF: wish I could help. Good advice to think about something else for a while. Good luck for tomorrow!
CtD: no point in me ever guessing about the Advent calendar - I'll never get it. Oh well, gone on then - a holly wreath!

Anyhoo, back to what you were saying, JanetMack ('tis you from FB isn't it?). It is the hardest thing to see our children go through things like that, and sometimes we do take it harder than our children do. I used to childmind a friends' child from when big wee lass was 6 months, but when I miscarried last year they decided to get someone else to look after her. I wasn't unduly worried as we are very close to the family, holiday with them and the such, but then they left our church too and that meant big wee lass didn't see her every week. Months passed before we saw them and in that time, b-w-lass became really withdrawn at creche - broke my heart!
Just you tell your lass to friend all of us on FB, and we'll annoy her with messages and texts!!
Keep on blogging honey!!
