CAUGHT BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE.
Oh yes and no mistake, here's the deal...
... two of our team, i.e. Helen - the boss and Craig - the crackpot, are already in Cyprus, having flown there this morning to sort out tomorrow's ALL REQUEST FORCES SPESH.
Brilliant, can't wait and the rest of the team are staying here to handle things from this end.
But moi is all in between caught up in the middle like. I stay for tonight's show, fly out early in the morn and get there just in time for tomorrow night's show.
ALL GOOD....NO PROBLEM........ HOWEVER........ H O W E V E R !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's the RADIO 2 staff party tonight. Like the big one, the Christmas Ding Dong, the once a year and that's it thing. Girls with glitter and no partners and a proper mobile disco.
Now, the cats already in Cyprus are gonna have a beer in sympathy, the dudes here are gonna party like there's no shows to do tomorrow, but I have to go home with not so much as a lime stuffed in the top of a bottle.
Of all the days in all of the year.
Course, the naughty little office imps are telling me to go the party anyway but I am saying:
"Get over yourselves St. Trinians, I've got a five hour flight with just me and a dusty old paperback, plus thirty degrees C and hundreds of squaddies waiting for a request at the other end."
Still, one wouldn't hurt, would it?
CLP.
2008.

This has been creeping in for some time - 10 years ago we could still take photos at littlest 'un's primary school but my friends with younger ones can't. PC paranoia gone mad.
And as for anyone who isn't digital and wants an innocent snap of their own kids in the bath or paddling pool - which most of us have from our own childhoods I bet - you're likely to get arrested if you take them somewhere to be developed these days.
I'm all for trying to stop abuse, of course, but innocent people get caught by these blanket catch-all rules.

True derbyfi. And evidence proves that most abuse is committed by someone in or known to the family somehow.
But protecting our kids at all costs makes sense.
This is very serious suddenly isn't it.

I went to the nativity play of my God Daughter 2 years ago (she was a shiny shiny star!) and there was no photography allowed, BUT the school had it filmed by a "professional" and parents were invited to order their copy of the DVD (all proceeds go to the school, naturally!) for collection when the new term began again in January.
Talk about cash cow!
For the record: my best friend (mother of said God Daughter) sat there all sensible whilst me and her mum sat either side of her bawling our eyes out!!!

It's the old problem isn't it Debbie - a criminal minority (who aren't usually dealt with harshly enough in my view) get away with their evil ways, often for many years, and so millions of other quite harmless people pay the price.
You can say the same in a way for car insurance, road tax etc dodgers - they kill and maim others with dangerous driving in unroadworthy vehicles and then get a tiny fine that is less than their insurance would be for one year.
If I was PM........ I'd make punishments for serious crimes that cause suffering to other people (physical and mental) fit the crime - and life should mean life.
Sorry all, I'm on my soapbox now.
df

Jen if I had a couple of pints of water on top of what I had been drinking I'd be up every 5 mins for a wee - maybe that's how you avoid the hangover.
The no photos of kids is common I think - they got around it at the school where the munchins go by getting parental consent at the strat pf the school year for all events etc.

Greetings and Salutations from an ever colder Vancouver,
Ah, the age old dillemma of whether to stay in or go out.
The soiree: inviting, exciting, fun-filled, rhapsodic, jubilant, festive and booze-fuelled...but...
The Problem: Having something important to do the next day makes it difficult to join the party with the same unchallenged abandon enjoyed by the other attendees.
What to do, Mr. Evans, what to do? Could go either way...
I have been on many a flight around our fair planet, hungover due to an inability to avoid the delightful excess of the night before and it is always painful. These days I tend to avoid that kind of pre-flight excess (next Wednesday is a classic example before my London flight...) but it can be tough...We've all been there.
Either way, remember this:
You're not drunk if you can lie on the floor without holding on.
Bottoms up.

Bagpuss: Our very smallest one (3) is a cat in his nursery nativity play. Can't remember ever seeing a cat in one before. Am going to see him next Wednesday morning - with trepidation I may add - this is the one who will either be ruler of the world or boss of the mafia! Has thrown contents of his potty (wee, fortunately) all over the telly while it was on and threw my coffee all over the sofa the other week. Hello all.... have been a bit quiet on the blogging front, have been lurking.
CLP: re the Christmas party scenario I think you should go, even if you only have the one or two you can still have a laugh at everyone else's drunken antics. At the now infamous staff do 3 christmasses ago at my place of work there was one girl who couldn't drink (doctor's orders) and she dined out for about 3 days afterwards reminding (or informing) her colleagues just what they had got up to.... plus shs ehad no hangover to deal with the next day!
Debbie/Bondy: re the whole pictures of children's plays etc... I work at a tourist attraction here in Edinburgh and often lead education sessions for primary school aged children. if we want to take photos of any of the events we run we need to get advance permission from the parents of every single child in the group before we can take a single shot. It's a sad state of affairs but a reflection of the society we live in.
Anyhow on a cheerier note this year's Chrimbo bash is next week, still to decide what to wear... decisions, decisions

Chris I hope you went to the party, had a few bieres and aren't too roughtoday.
Ball was good, MrsW looked fab, I had a few bieres and all in all a good night was had by all.
Won't comment too much on photo/video'ing school plays, yep it's just crazy that they don't trust the parents but I guess if it stops just one thrillseeker slipping through the net well then can't be all bad really. I like the idea that it's done professionally and the school can raise a few bob....who's to say who can/can't buy it though??
I think I read a few postings on heroin addicts yesterday? Well I say show EVERY child all videos available and shock them at a young age. I have had to deliver the tragic news to a family (or 2) that their loved one is no longer alive and it's bloody horrible I can tell you. (Telling them, and finding them that is!)
Hope you're all coping with the cold, coffee no3 is calling.....now where's the paracetamol?

Blimey it was frosty this morning. I think there was frost on frost on my car windows - took ages to scrape off. There was also freezing fog, with the sun trying to burst through - look really pretty.
CtD-thanks for the list of the advent calendar reveals so far, much appreciated. Enjoy your day off.

Hi all,
9 year old off ill with high temperature so romantic birthday day out has been postponed (sob!).
On the subject of videoing/photographing school plays, I know of one family who have a very good reason for not wanting this to take place, I know it's a shame for the other parents but I guess you just have to take a pic of your little ones before or after they go to the play. A couple of years ago I had one child playing Joseph in the Lower School production and the other was Prince Charming in the big kids show! I don't think photos etc were allowed, but I have some great memories - I thought at the time, it ain't gonna get any better then this!
Gingembre - glad the ball went well, I absolutely love dos where everyone puts on their gladrags but Mr M is less keen on dressing up sadly!
Better get back to the invalid, can't wait to listen in tonight Chris,

I'm still pretty pally with my first m-i-l who has always been great, even though we rarely meet now either 'cos we live in different bits of the country.
But I once worked with a woman who married a spoiled only child whose mother used to invite him up to Newcastle (from Nottingham) for a nice cosy weekend together and the d-i-l was very firmly not invited! Ah jayzus I HATE that, I've sported more ridiculous hairdo's in me time than I can shake a stick at; in my time at Art College in Manchester in the 70s it was considered cool to trot off to Vidal Sassoon of a Tuesday night, students' training night, so that you got your hair done for free. Ergo meself and the marvellously bonkers (now incredibly successful artist) friend emerged with heads like summat you'd find at the end of Blackpool Pier.
Then I got married and became the only farmers' wife in the country with short blue hair and a plait at the back. I shall remember to my dying day the look on the father-in-law's (a burly, old-school farmer) face when he saw me.
"Did you 'ave gas?" He asked, lividly.
Then in the 80s came the sequence of dreadful curly perms. Oh yes. Vera Duckworth, Lily Savage, Marj Simpson and next-door's poodle/Jack Russell cross, a ringer for all of 'em I was. If I'd only known then what I know now, namely that my hair is actually naturally curly if I were ever to give it chance to grow before terrorising it, all them birds' nests coulda bin avoided.
These days, however, I wear my hair au naturel apart from slappin' the odd colour on it when it starts to look miserable, as I've had me share of psychotic hairdressers and therefore would rather face a firin' squad than one a them guys.
So. Top tip girls. If your hair goes green when you've emerged from the swimmin' pool lookin' more like Phyllis Diller than Ursula Andress, slap a bit a tomato ketchup on it.
Oh yes.
Take it from one who knows.

On the hideous hair front... For those of you who don't know me I have long curly brown hair and have had since I was a little girl. One day in my 20's when I was going out with this guy who had a particular preference for blondes I thought I'd go the whole hog and change my colour. After vast amounts of peroxide applied by my hairdresser and goodness knows what else I looked in the mirror to see a wonderful mass of platinum blonde hair on what can only be described as the most ashen washed out face that ever took breath. I had that hair for 23 hrs before reverting to pleading for help from a hairdresser friend who advised that I had to dye it red before I could go back to brown. My scalp was burned & blistered and hurt like hell for months. I thought my curls would be gone forever but somehow I recovered. My curls came back but I've not touched it since!

I've had a few hair cut disasters in my time, which means that I enjoy going to the dentist more than the hairdresser. Although I do have a lovely hairdresser now who has completely restyled me and insists that I dye my grey bits on a regular basis - must say it's knocked years off me, which is great considering I started to go grey when I was 20!!

Hair has been most colours, including blonde(ish, more like yellow) with green splodges. I wanted blue streaks but the best mate wasn't very good with hair dye. Been banned from ever going blonde again. My driving licence has me looking like a startled blond rabbit, yes blond, I look like a boy. Awful. Especially with the aviator style specs I used to wear. Thank God the hubby came along and sorted out my dress sense.
Annie. Thank You So Much. I now have Nutbush City Limits on repeat in my head.
Happy Birthday Chrissie!!
Gingembre, you and MrsW look gorgeous in them pics!!
Just remembered back to my hitching. I'd had my hair cut specially (to get rid of the blonde ends that were still growing out) but they missed one bit so I had a blonde splodge over one ear on the day. And for my birthday two weeks previously I got my belly button pierced. What an eejit. I had the choice then of either having a little bobble sticking out through the dress, or a huge white diamond of a sticking plaster that my mum kindly decided to put over said protrusion. It was visible through the dress.
Who've I missed...
PP. I'll remember that, avoid T&G... I go to the same salon, have the same stylist, and he never seems to get it just how I want it, I've even been back a couple of times to get him to do it again. Why do I stay with him?! Is it a case of better the devil you know...?
Oh. And don't get me started on m-i-l's. The m-i-l came to help out with me and baby for only a few days. When she went home I must have ranted for 2 hours solid to poor mr jumpy, it took 2 weeks for me to get all the ranting out of my system. And the jumpybean is staying with the inlaws for a day and a night at christmas, without us......

After that was the big white meringue one with a bow on the back the size of a plasma tv screen and then dear sis went and put me in peach! Luckily dark hair and a bit of a tan so got away with it!!

First (and only) time as bridesmaid - lilac and white pinstipe dress not offensive in any way but oh so cold - I had to have a shawl at all times (blue and lilac don't look good on the photo's) Maid of Honour "leaked" as she was still breast feeding - priest didn't know where to look!!!!
Marriage lasted about 18 mnths :-(
Grandad Egg - always did Ministry of Silly Walks - had me giggling all the way down sauchiehall street once!
Young 'uns in Kilts - can't go wrong!!
Right thats me, finishing off then getting ready for tonights "Do"
Oh advent - Christmas Pudding
Have good one!

Beesmum,
What is Pirates of Penzanced, never heard the term before .
I was very tall as a child and was a page boy at a wedding ,a fetching purple garb with one of those fluffy shirts and a daft dickie bow, never liked them dickies since.
I looked ridiculous as I was almost as tall as the groom.
after the photo.s were taken I apparently refused to go into the reception till me mom went home to get me some normal clothes.
From that day my handle was Big Ginge.
Small wonder I ran away to become a cabin boy.

Hello all
Been fun reading all the Hairdo stories.
Sadly I can do nothing with what was once shoulder length hair which is now a short crop with bits.
I intend to go and hide away and I won't be going out this Christmas unless I can find a suitable wig.

My biggest fear in life is having to wear false teeth, but i've always said that should i ever lose my hair (through whatever means, but i think you all know what i'm saying) then i'd become a complete slave to wigs and wear hair to suit my mood.

PP, keep practicing with your hair, and don't worry it will grow back quick enough.
Another christmas 'do' tonight. With the company that I worked with for 11 years. Nervous about this one, haven't seen most of them since last year. And I feel fat! How do you loose a chin in three hours?!

Christmas tree story
When my mum was with us, half the family used to descend on her, week before Christmas and go to the farm nearby to dig up various sizes of tree. Spades were supplied by the farmer if you forgot to take one!
Nephew was teeny but insisted on going rather than stop with his nan - No Wellies - except those belonging to auntie bees Paddington Bear. Did they fit - you bet they did - off he trotted happy as a sandboy with Paddingtons red wellies on!!!
Sweet!

Hello all. Debbie you will look just gawjus, have a fab time catching up with everyone tonight.
I've missed our Christmas do's this year. My site's do was on Tuesday and I was up in Co Durham, and their do was on Wednesday when I was back in Yorkshire. Hey ho...
I've only done the bridesmaid thing once, my brother's wedding in '88. And yes, I too was in peach with puffy sleeves and a puffball skirt. Like Beesmum though, dark and had a tan at the time, so not too bad. And I was severial pounds lighter then he he.
False teeth don't bother me, though could you imagine spending the night with someone you think has all their own teeth and waking up to half of them in a glass by the bed!!! My nightmare would be not being able to see. Conversely, my dad would hate to not be able to hear, as he'd miss his music.
Have fun to anyone else who's out tonight (any takers for FNWC or am I a bit of a billy tonight?). Anyone know if Katie's dress turned up??

On the subject of hair do's I hope those that have bad hair will manage to get something done intime to enjoy Xmas.
On the subject of M-i-L
My parents moved from abroad to just round the corner. they was 90 miles (romford as opposed to Peterborough now) and i like it. They don't "impose" themselves on us well atleast the missus hasn't said so. If and when she does i shall either pull back or have a quiet word with my mother. I think overbearing M-i-L's are down to the son (in the main seeing as most of you bloggers are women) It's weak willed husbands that cause the problem. I have to have words with me dad more often that not . . . but he's me dad and me wife is me wife so i'll balance everything to keep everyone happy.
Here's one for ya . .. not sure it's been done yet but . . . . .. . .. . . .
Whats everyone doing Xmas day?
We're at home on our own this year. Will prob nip round and see my parents. 18yro Step-Daughter is going to her friends for Xmas dinner so it's just us two. I've tried to cancel Xmas this year but as yet no luck so it'll be a lump o pork and the rest at some point in the day. Not keen on TV so wont be watching any of the usual fare thats on at Xmas although i might change my mind if there's a Xmas special TG on Dave :-D
Clodagh . . .. while i remember . . . . . .write that blooming book cos it'll be a seller failing publishing it . . .. . .email it to people :-D i for one would like to read it. That would be one way to cheer me up when feeling down.
I'm now say here wondering what else i can type but am at a loss so will go now . .. until something else stirs my keyboard.
Steve :-D

Christmas Day in Diva Towers:
Just the 2 of us as always. We generally wake up early on Christmas morning to the smell of the turkey, which we cook overnight, and mange on the streaky bacon while the coffee's cooking.
Then, in our PJs we start opening prezzies - usually with interruptions of phone calls from my side of the family (mum in Goa and aunts, nan etc). Breakfast is smoked salmon and bucks fizz.
Then we enjoy our prezzies, take the mickey out of some of the dodgier ones and generally mooch about, prepping dinner together etc.
Just coz there's just the two of us, we don't skimp. The table is laid, crackers, party poppers etc - the works.
After dinner, relax a bit - perhaps watch a daft film, doze.
It's our Christmas and we cherish every second!
How many days to go now ..... ?

Morning all.
Just want to say something, joking apart.
PP.
Listen up, I know how upsetting it is when you have your hair sabotaged. Especially when, in the grand scheme of things, it's really not life-threatening or anything; but it IS important and horrible at the time. It's happened to me LOADS. Hence why I say I'd rather face a firin' squad than a hairdresser.
So-and I realise you may tell me what to go and do with my bit of advice but here goes. This is what I believe you should do.
Firstly, call up the salon (and by the way it could have been any salon, none are immune to buggering up someone's hair: I once spent well over £100 to have me hea trashed in a top posh London salon) and tell them. Not aggressively, but TELL them. It won't reverse the situation, even if they offered to refund you-which I doubt- but you'll feel better that you've been heard.
Secondly, attack the problem thus. Get yourself down the shops; take your daughter, I'm sure she feels bad about this, too; and have some fun trying on all the lovely hair accessories of which there are LOADS around at the moment. And a bob is the perfect style to be able to carry any of them.
Clips, hairbands with little flowers, bows or beads; gorgeous tortoiseshell ones, soft knitted or crocheted ones.
I don't know your age but why not try one of the lovely sequin berets? You can wear those out at night. V. trendy.
Is there enough length to pull it back? If so, pull it into a small ponytail and stick a nice big flower in. Hey Presto instant Copacabana! Cheryl will be in a mad jealous rage.
There are any number of hairpieces out there. Ponytails, plaits, velcro-on hair extensions, etc. I used to wear a ponytail before I grew my own hair and I loved it. Nowadays of course it stays in its box and only comes out at parties or to scare the window-cleaner.
Berets of any kind are fab. No, not the Frank Spencer ones-especially if you're wearing a mac-hoho- a bright colour, or a neutral shade. And customise it with a brooch or a pin or whatever. I've a great knitted one from Accessorize with a pom-pom on top which is FAB. I wear it all the time. Well, not in the bath..
In this weather, everybody needs a hat anyway. Get a nice fluffy one or a stripey beanie. Or what is really trendy is a headscarf a la Her Majesty.
And finally, if there's a posh department store anywhere near you, pop into Personal Shopping. I can't guarantee anything but they should certainly help you, and it's a free service.
And you know what. By the time this b. awful weather warms up and we're chucking off the thermals, it will have grown a bit. It will, you know.
So there you are. For what it's worth. I wish you well and good luck.

I will be composing a letter to the Salon. I don't want any redress as I certainly won't be going back. My hair has gone and I am left with a short bob with bit's.
Funnily enough I did not warm to her from the start as the first thing she said was "So it's all coming off is it". I said no thank you. She began cutting from the back so I was completely unaware of what she was up to.
Again great advice... now where did I put that Berry.

Hi Chris , its Bob Bentley of Classic Automobiles. Have you ever heard of Jeremy Lloyd ? He was the co-writer of "Allo Allo" "Are you being served" and "Captain Beaky" to name but a few. he was also featured as the English gent in the "Rowan and Martins laugh in" in the sixties. I met him about 25 years ago at the showroom, he has bought 100's of Classic cars in his time, some very important.
Anyway he is 70 odd now and has just come out of hospital recovering from a broken leg after a bad fall.
I am suprised that he has never received any Honours for his contribution to the arts, and for putting the british sense of humour out there to so many Countries. It also always tickles me to see him strutting his stuff in the Beatles film, "A hard days night" Give him a mention, Regards Bob

Good evening tout le monde, ca va?
Have had a lovely day today, finally begun to feel a little festive cheer, and that's nothing to do with the 2/3 of a bottle of red I've imbibed already... No, I felt this was this morning (well, once the headache had worn off). But, the tree is up, the lights are strung, the little ornaments the swingy legs are everywhere and the lovely cards have started to come in. I haven't blogged much lately, because I've been a bit "Wonderful World" by James Morrison, but I got a lovely surprise in today's post and would like to thank CtD for her thoughtfulness. Yes, so, I was out at the Owlcotes Shopping Centre, wandering round MandS with much cheer and everyone was being quite civilised and cheery. Perhaps next weekend will be a bit more manic, but today was lovely. Pyjamas duly purchased, all sorted. Only need to buy sweeties now for various folk, but I don't trust myself to leave them alone, so they'll be a last minute job!!
I hope everyone's having a lovely festive time, since there seems to be no-one here but me (just call me Bill hehe), and hope that you will all excuse my waffle. Right, back to QI for me.

I don't like shoe shopping I'm afraid. I do find it very difficult to buy comfortable shoes. Being a larger variety of lady, my feet go with the rest of me and are a bit wide, so most shoes make me look like the ugly sister trying to squeeze my foot into the glass slipper (no mean comments please!).

Hi oz
Elveden. AND the best bit: we've "invested" in spa passes. Valid Mon - Fri, you can spa as much or as little as you like and no need to book! All for 65 quid each for the week. Bargain! No treatments included but I can live with that.
Have you ever had a dry floatation experience? Awesome!
Complain about this comment
JJT: sorry to disappoint, never been to Australia in my life so don't think I'd count as a "bonzer babe"!
CtD: did Elveden for the first time in Sept, twas as good as the others though a tad more expensive to book. Spa passes sound fab deal, haven't spotted those, but if they exist for next hols might have to get one each since we usually book ourselves a pass for day one before braving the car park queue to move in (it's usually shrunk by the time we emerge about 6ish!) and we usually wish we could go again before we leave! Have done dry floatation, agree was fab, will treat myself to another once I've finished trying out all the other treatments which take my fancy. I tend to go for their full body massages and something different each time we go, so am slowly working my way through the list! Tother half likes the shiatsu massages (had one once but didn't enjoy as much as the more usual aromatherapy / sports massages) All so far have been well worth the funds, even if I have to save a bit up first!

Ok OK, confession time....
...we had friends over last night and they really wanted to watch Xfactor. Now I hate these programmes and avoid them at all costs however not wanting to be rude and being enticed in with the promise of the gorgeous wondress that is beyonce I bowed to the pressure.
Here's the thing - I was in tears watching the girl when Beyonce came out with her. I was so choked by her reaction at not only meeting her idol but having her standing right there singing with her.....awesome.
I was imagining all my heroes and if I ever met them whilst helping them at work - eg, Gazza throwing me an England shirt and telling me we're in midfield together at wembley for Spurs or Luther Vandross asking me to duet with him....or Sharon Stone needing to be arrested and then interviewed in Basic Instinct *ahem* - ok I'll calm down and stop now!!!!
Anyway, I understand she won, didn't watch any of it other than those few minutes.
HOWEVER - auntie beeb, what are you doing hoodwinking all those phone voters on SCD last night, what a swizz. I dont care if they're carried over, you bottled it and here's my theory......Tom was bottom and you want him in the final!

Yes I know I'm daft but aren't we all, girls.
So now. Beesmum. Wrinkly neck indeed. Yous is GORgeous. But a nice big fat pearl choker will do the trick, or, OR.. oo now where did I see it... a fab black top, fine knit, polo-neck but with the back cut away. Now THAT will complete the Copacabana look but don't go anywhere near Cheryl if you don't want a repeat of all that Sailin' Across The Bar and Chairs bein' Smashed In Two...

Oh my, heckity and thump.
have only just got up! And this from a girly that is normally up by 5.00am every day. Still I guess I needed it, and still beat Errol out of bed.
So, a few things while still bleary eyed and head swimmy.
Santa - what's all this clap trap that santa doesn't exist? Of course he does. I've been to his house is Lapland, stroked his reindeer, and sat on his knee. No, in all seriousness - Santa exists as we all carry a little santa with us. We are santa, bringing the joy, excitement and of course the presents, to those that we love each year. Ok, I might not be a jolly, big boned fellow dressed in red, but the actual image and personage doesn't matter, its the idea of him that is so real to everybody - kids, growed ups and old aunt gladys's (Gladi?). So there! No more talk of the 'lie', for it is merely a bendy truth.
Meeting 'the one'. I have met several 'the ones' and have had my heart broken many a time, or been the one doing the heart breaking. And each time I said never again, no more putting up with feeling like dirty brown stuff, no chance of somebody else getting that close and tearing me in two. That was, until the next somebody came along. I think you have to take your chances as they turn up. You all know how happy I am with Errol right now, but that doesn't mean that he won't cause me heart ache. But I can't live every day thinking along those lines. It is hard to trust, but you have to allow yourself that abandonment. Is Errol my soulmate - Idon't know, he didn't come with a label, but I do know that being with him makes me happy and he brings out the best in me. Do you need anything more than that?
And finally, Happy Birthday Bond.

Well put Mariella, indeed, my personal slant on what you have very honestly described is this.
Women are far more open and responsive to get back out there and give love another go.
However, and this is again my experience, and take on it as an average bloke.
I think that most men just say sod it and will not get involved again as quickly, tend to s##g around with no commitment.
I may and probably am wrong, but I know case histories that tend to back this up.
As for me I feel I,m a lost cause as I worshipped (The One) and now she is long gone.
Got the super boy and girl we had together though.
I adore women and have had many a delightfull time since , and hope that this continues.
I wish I was more like you if I,m honest, but to set in ways, which is my loss I know.

The suburban disco in the Scout Hall - normally ended up dancing to the song-with-no-end the full version of I heard it on the Grapevine with a guy that one had tried to avoid all night. Damn my mother and her philosophy/theory/good manners of "if you say no to a dance with one boy then you must say no to all. It will hurt their feelings if refused and then they see you dancing with someone else!!!"

Arfternoon peeps!
MW'a I haven't found "the one" for me yet though I've found a few that helped me along the way. My soulmate is my business partner (who I was with for 12 years but it didn't work out) we're the best of friends and he totally understands me but we weren't meant to be together. I'm sure if it's meant to be then one day it will happen but in the meantime I'm having a great life.

Evening each
Just back from delivering gorgeous boys back to their parents.
Took all 3 little'uns to see Santa this morning. When he asked the littlest one how old he was, he replied 'Mebbe 5?' (He's 3). Good time had by all.
Mary, hope you're still ok for tomorrow night. Looking forward to a chat, and a cuddle from Susan's babe.

Evening all, just listening to the end of the chart show for the first time in... well a very long time - ooh, brings back memories of sitting with the tape deck on record/pause, then trying to un-pause between the end of the DJ waffle and the start of the song, then hoping he kept his mouth shut 'til the song finished!
Anyway, Tel and Aled are at number 3 - how cool is that? All started by our very own dear CLP, bless you sir!!
Quiet here this weekend, hope everyone's been enjoying!

Evening AF. I'm here, just checking out Amazon in the hope that PS3 games can be delivered for Christmas. Unfortunately, don't know what the little'uns are already getting from Santa, so on a hiding to nothing, really.
Right, off to phone offspring and make a list.

Well some very deep posts here, and lovely ones too.
Quite spooky given the day that I've had.
I don't know if I like the Calamity Jane title, sort of do, but I want to be different.
Someone close to me said some very hurtful things to me today and I'm questioning all sorts of things.
I have never felt so unattractive before, honestly wish I could wave a magic wand and be different.
I do find it helpful to 'talk' to people outside of my family and 'real' friend circle as I think it's a more neutral and less biased opinion that you get.
Anyway. I could ramble on for ever so better go off and do something before you all start throwing things at your screens!
Lots of love

Annie, I have put on some weight. I knew this anyway but to have someone point it out and unkindly...well I feel like I hate the way I look so much. You can hold in your tummy and hide a multitude of sins with clever clothing but can't hide a double chin can you?
Sorry, I won't talk about it again. Feel a bit silly now!

Hi Debbie- I'm sure that you're not at all unattractive. Questioning things every now and again can actually bring you new perspective and you know, things are never as bad or as good as they first appear. Try to use this as a time to take a look at who you are and appreciate all the great things about you. You are a fine person and anyone who questions that is probably questioning themself.

Evening!
Wowser - have we had a busy day here at Diva Towers or what?!
Started to bling up da house at about half eight this morn and finished at about 3 o'clock. We're both absolutely shattered but the house and tree look fab/
Watched the West Ham game this afternoon whilst cooking a roast beef feast, now just chilling out waiting for Top Gear to come on.
Good news about Tel and Aled being no.3 - way to go - power to CLP and the bloggers eh??!!
The One: yep, I've got him and I'm never gonna let him go. And do you know what, when I met him I wasn't out shopping for The One - I was living with someone else! Typicaly corny "eyes met across very smoky rock pub" scenario. One smile and my heart melted, knees went weak etc and d'ya know what ... they still do! Yep. Even after 14 years together I still get flutterbies driving home at night in the knowledge that Mr Diva will be there for me.
Deb - sorry you had a pants time today hun. Just try to be strong (I know it's not easy) and say "pa!" to anyone who doesn't buy your Goddessness. Their loss! So what if you have put on a few pounds? We're all human. It's what's inside that counts and you are a lovely woman. You jut have to start believing in yourself as much as we believe in you.
Back still a bit on the hurty side today - stretching to put bling on the tree did it the world of good. Not!
Apparently I shouted out the night last night that my back was agony. Can't remember it tho .... oops!
Right, sweet dreams one and all. Will catch up with you tomorrow.
6.5 working days to go .......

Morning all
Have a big pile of cards to post shortly which shows that something was achieved this weekend, if little else. What with X factor (right result IMO) and Sports personality (ditto) I seem to have been in front of the TV rather more than normal.
Given the silence from Bondy either he's had one h**l of a birthday or he's one of the many poor souls in the NE USA who've lost all their electricity supply due to the storms. Hope it's the first but suspect the worst..............
Also hope Debbie is feeling a bit more positive today after the supportive comments. One of my relatives had a husband who delighted in putting her down and ruining her confidence - all because of his own inadequacies of course - she's a perfectly fine woman and her kids all love her to bits. He tried it with me too but because we weren't emotionally involved I told him where to get off! She finally saw the light and got rid of him - when he promptly started the same tricks on someone else. Nice!
Hope the Scottish meet goes well and the weather up there is kind.
Have a good week folks.

And the mini meet at The M on Wednesday eve - shall be thinking of you all but not joining you (pre-christmas waxing appt at 6.30 so impossible to make it, even if Jeremy Clarkson was my chaeuffeur!) (altho The Hamster would be a better option ...... !!)

Hi everyone:
Well, I have had a very busy morning, taking into account that due to all the partying last Friday, I did not do a stroke of work!
I have finally succumbed and had a Twirl Hero - it was delicious!
I spent the entire weekend cleaning the house (why it took so long, I have no idea - we live in a shoebox!) and catching up with laundry. Managed to get the tree up - looking beautiful (boleyngirl: I have Anne hanging on my tree!) and all the ornaments and windchimes, etc are in place!
Looking forward to the meet tonight -though with it being a school night, it should be fairly well behaved.
For the rest of the week, my plan is to wrap up a couple of gifts each night, so that we don't have a load of them to do on Christmas Eve. I always think that on Christmas Eve, we'll put on a movie and wrap presents and it will be festive. Last year was a frenzy and a nightmare, so I swore we'd never do that again!

Hi B-sMum - glad to hear Bondy is ok and I hope all the other Statesiders are too - those photos were scary, and I grew up in a pretty snowy part of Northern England where we used to have to dig trenches around the house to get out!
Happy days............or not, whenever I remember the heater-less bedrooms and blankets so heavy it was a struggle to get out of them I say a little prayer of thanks to the people who invented central heating and duvets!
I'm looking forward to the new blog tonight - Friday sounded like great fun, but on a very serious note the news that came out later that evening was so sad, especially given the context and the messages shared in those 2 hours in Cyprus.
