WHATEVER YOU WANT, WHATEVER YOU LIKE...
Er... sorry about yesterday but here's what happened...
... I sat at the computer yesterday morning, this very one, 9.15 it was and began to write scripts for last night's show. It was very complicated and was only going to work if we all had specific roles. Anyways, I started to type away and didn't look up again until four o'clock. In all the madness and believe me yesterday was completely mad, I simply FORGOT to blog. That's it, in fact I actually thought I had but of course I hadn't.
Thanks to everyone for putting up with us last night and a million more thanks to all those people who bid and sent us best wishes.
This Monday we nearly decided not to do the car thing, it was looking increasingly impossible to get all our ducks in a row in time, so what changed ?
Well it was simple really, we used the old showbiz trick of announcing it on the radio anyway and then we HAD to make it happen. So that's what we did.
What a result though, seriously exciting stuff and now the more I think about it, the more I want to make it really special. I'm going to start plotting the route in the next few weeks, with some choice stops and some good driving roads. I also have a feeling there will be a few extra cars in tow. I suppose the more the merrier.
Also thinking about next year's auction and doing it all again.
I've always loved cars ever since my mum took out a loan for £500 and bought me my first mini. Ever since I built my first remote control Formula 3 Toleman race car. Ever since I made my first five grand and bought a white MGA that I'd drooled after for several years, a purchase that cleaned me out to such an extent I couldn't afford to insure it.
To now combine my job, which I love, with my passion and make a bag of money for C.I.N. in the process is such a joy. I am the luckiest man I know.
God bless Enzo Ferrari, God bless my mum, God bless my wife and our little family, God bless the team, God bless the team, God bless you lot, God bless radio.
I'm so happy.
CLP.
2008.
X.

It's a tradition where possible that we listen to as much of Radio 2 as possible leading up to CIN then watch it on the Friday.
The radio was on earlier but it's been switched off in the office I might have to go switch it on again!!!!
My friend made pudsey cookies and sent me a picture especially!

Hey Lambie Pie :)
We enjoyed listening last night, I wished that a) I was over 30 and b) that I had a few thousand quid spare that I could've bid to drive those cars!!!
It's not often I wish I was over 30 ;)
Hey ho, maybe in a few years the insurers might let you do it again and there'll be one less thing in the way of me bidding....
There's no TV in this household so we've invited ourselves over to some friends' house, with pizza and chocolate puddings, so spend the evening watching the goings-on for CiN.
Looking forward to it - I might even get dressed (although a friend has just told me she did the school run this morning in her nightie, just with jogging pants and a jumper over the top...)! It's the little things that cheer me up these days, such as the perogative of not having to get dressed unless I need to :)
Here's looking forward to the arrival of Baby DJ, I forget when he/she's due - I may have to go back through the blog at some point and work it out again!
Hope Enzo's settling in at home, how's his wheels doing??

I rang CiN line this morning (10.40ish) and requested Dr and The Medics for all the Chris Evans bloggers from CtD. The thing is, the lady who took my credit card details almost forgot to ask me what song/dedication I wanted!! She said "thank you for calling CiN and for your donation" and I went"oh don't I get to pick a song then ....". So, bottom line, I tried, but I'm not 100% it was taken down properly. I'm only praying she doesn't add a 0 on the end of my donation, or else we're on beans on toast for thev rest of the month!!!
Susan - I've been to visit my 86 year old nan for the last couple of hours. She had a hozzy appt this morn but she's alright. Remarkable really, I cannot imagine getting to 86!

Do you make your lasagne from scratch? I use the recipe from the Cook Yourself Thin girls, less pasta, no flour in the white sauce etc. It's really tasty, you wouldn't know it was low-fat unless you were told

Tiggs - the "base" recipe is from the cookbook I used at school - with some grown up modifications ...... for some reason, we weren't encouraged to use red wine in cooking at the age of 15!!
Yep - all made from scratch - even grate the cheese, despite the temptation to buy ready-grated ......
Masterplan is to get the lasagne done and ready to go in the oven, and get the bowl of salad prepped so when i get back from nail bar later, all the hard work and the majority of clearing up is done!
That's the plan anyway .......

I can do lasagne from scratch, I found a really good recipe for white sauce - the person who wrote it out obviously didn't have much success with it, but I've never had a problem!
Hey I actually baked the other day, made bananana bread - not made it for months, don't usually have much success with it when I've not made it in a while, but this was the BEST banannanana bread I've EVER made!!! Well pleased!

Hello to Mr Chrisopher Evans, well known wireless broadcaster.

And indeed Bingo says that the song hopefully will MAKE many Drivetime listeners very happy as it's a song about a man who's very happy with hhhhis, his car - Abit like yourself Mr Christopher Evans, well known broadcaster.

Bingo has asked me to PASS on the message to Mr Christopher Evans, broadcaster of The Drivetime wireless show. Bingo says HE will give 48 pounds 74 pence to Children In Need if Mr Christopher Evans plays Queen featuring Roger Taylor and I'm In Love With My Car!!!!!!!! (8)
Bingo adds he thinks it is VERY appropriate as there was and indeed iiiiiis, is many cars of exoticness involved in the Drivetime Disco auction.
Bingo also says he will double his pledge iiiiif, if Mr Christopher Evans plays this song and does The Waltz to it with either well known sports commentator Mr Johnny Saunders or top traffic bulletin commentator Sally Boazman!!!!!!!! (8)

The excitement of the bidding was phenomenal and congrtulations to all those who won a place on the grid, or a table at the D & D, you are very lucky but also kind-hearted and generous souls for parting with great wads of cash in a very worthy cause.
Well done to CLP and the team for coming up with an idea that gives so much back in order to get to so much for Children In Need.

Cook Yourself Thin was a series on Channel 4 last year, really good recipes that didn't look like they were low fat in the slightest. One of the girls in here was one of the subjects and they showed her how to recreate her favourite takeaways without all the calories. For example, the lasagne recipe only uses one layer of pasta, the other layers are replaced by roasted peppers and griddle courgettes and the cheese sauce is literally milk, cornflour and a small amount of extra mature cheddar, same taste, less than half the fat/calories

Re Strictly - John is such a lovely man but apart from Jodie I wouldn't want any of the others to go if he was kept in. He is good entertainment but at the end of the day it is about who has made the most progress. I really like Christine, she is like a ray of sunshine when she comes on to the dance floor, as much as I like Austin and Tom I feel they have been really good from the beginning and the competition between the two started from day one so now I don't get too excited seeing them because you know they are going to be good, if you know what I mean. Not sure I explained that very well.

Jothelawyer: I am with you on this one. Yes, I know it's a "dancing competition". But it's also entertainment and I am loving seeing John Sergeant every week, plus the man has the most brilliant mind, he is a dream to listen to! And, you know, he IS getting better!

Hi NewChrissieS,
Yes he is, I agree, and Kristina is fabulous with him.
Mr Lawyer told me he heard a rumour that the judges are going to give him all zeros this week regardless of how he dances, which i think must be totally untrue as if is not in the spirit of the show at all.
I agree it is about entertainment and I find John the most entertaining too. It's what we pay our licence fee for after all!!

A lovely, lovely post CLP, you are the real deal. Can't wait for the show.
Hello everyone else, too many to mention at the moz, it's great to see so many regular/new/old faces (I mean old as in "haven't heard from them for a while", before anyone takes umbrage!). It feels like a party here, unfortunately, as usual, I can't hang around. Got to go and get a present for next door's baby who is one today and we're invited there for drinks (milk?) later. Wish I was more organised, I only went to town last night.
And tomorrow we are off to the Barry Manilow/Chesney Hawkes show, which I will tell you all about afterwards even if you don't want to know - I'm so excited!
So, all you fantastic people, have a great evening, I might pop in for a quick snifter on the FNWC later if I can sneak away. Can't wait for CIN QI.

Just been out to meet hubby, he's trying to resist the call of the whisky now. A Very Trying Afternoon. He needs to resist, we're going out soon... and his latest nappy changing attempt failed (and we know from experience of my nappy changing attempts that poo doesn't come out of baby clothes particularly easily) so whisky isn't going to help there. (I should point out here that his nappy changing IS far far better than mine.)
Ah, Sweet Child of Mine. Didn't wake the baby but sang along quite loudly as hubby got quite animated telling us all about the frustrating afternoon.
I like....
Cars.
Actually I prefer driving, but I DO love beautiful old cars. We went to Goodwood earlier this year and I was chuffed to see Doc Hudson :) among other beauts.

Girl 2: I'm sposed to be, but I dunno .... I mean, he's well fit and everyfin, but, oh, i dunno ... he's got a weird name. Clive. Right weird innit?

Favourite and less favourite stuff.
Not wishing to court controversy, but am I the only one who finds this kind of TV a major league turn off? Don't get me wrong, the causes are incredibly worthwhile, but there must be better ways of doing it than wheeling out the increasingly portly legend that is our Tel and having a bunch of newsreaders and Q list 'celebs' performing things that we wouldn't even pay to see talented people do?
Maybe it is just me.
A few of my favourite things.
I noticed some of our transatlantic friends here earlier, and that got me thinking about my top places in the good 'ol US.
So here goes;
1.
2.
3.
There. What do you think?
Nope, you're totally wrong. I love the place to bits and when pushed, I cannot narrow it down to 3. California as a whole is fab. Big Sur, San Fran, LA (bizarre, but I love it), San Diego....oh, and the deserts, don't get me started. Deep south, my ancestral home, Pacific north west, NY, I could go on all night.
OK, perhaps not.
Music? Alright, I'll stop there. No-one wants me waffling all night.
Any room in the tub? 'Fraid I left my togs at home though......

Matt, I tend to dip in and out of it, rather than watching the whole way through. I don't really watch a lot of tv (well, not the popular stuff like soaps anyway) so I do wonder who some of the "stars" are!
But I think it's nice to see people who earn a good deal of money giving their time for free to help, because a lot of people do watch it and, I presume, ring in during the show.
Nice to see you, by the way. I think Steve's pink speedos are somewhere around if you need to borrow some...

Next week I think. I'm anticipating something awful, despite the fact that I go all the way back with G'n'R - withstanding that this is just Axl's ego and friends.
You are right about some of these cars.
I was handed the keys to a DB9 a while back and told, 'take it home, see what you think'.
I wheel-span in every gear across the lawn of a very posh golf club, edged my way to the M25 and, as it started raining, got into the middle lane and sat there doing about 40 all the way home. Think Richard Gere when he got hold of the Lotus in Pretty Woman.......
Then, one weekend, I borrowed a V8 Roadster, and got a bit too confident. Taking Mrs MfR to lunch at The M one Sunday, I decided to show off and overtake a 20mph driver on a country lane. I gave it some welly and we took off. I have never come so close to killing both of us.
Lunch was nice though.

I've never been the most confident of drivers. The scariest was having to drive a director from a firm I used to work for all the way back from the Oatlands Park Hotel in Weybridge back to Suffolk, late at night after a buiness dinner (ergo she was sloshed and giggly!) in her brand new Beemer. I knew the route as dad used to live in the Oatlands area of Weybridge, but the journey from the hotel to well onto the M25 was mostly in third gear and extremely gingerly taken!! Needless to say, once I'd dropped her off at home, getting back into my battered old Mini was criminal!

One more thing.
Par boil a couple of tatties, skin on, slice into thickish wedges, pop into a baking tray and drizzle with olive oil and season well - salt and pepper, plenty of. Stick them in the oven for about 45 mins and you will have the best chunky chips you have ever tasted. The keys are parboiling, the seasoning (esp pepper) and drying them off with kitchen paper when they come out of the oven.

Probably last post for tonight as I'm off to the sofa with a blanket for the rest of CiN soon. Oh yes and waiting to hear when the bloody teen is coming home.
Fed up with that every weekend.
Been his mum since his natural one left him at three years old. It's pretty hard going now that he's older. But that's not for now.
Anyway, enjoyed Take That earlier, Gary Barlow....hello! How lovely is he these days?

It's frightening Susan, did you see the clip earlier in the evening of the 12 year old who ended up homeless because she didn't get on with her Mum's new partner!!! 12years old and living on the streets, it's beyond comprehension!
BeesMum - it's different locally too, Susan and Annie saw Dr Who before me!

Beesmum - that's how I feel - we are too PC with parents who abuse their kids. They don't deserve kids. The wee ones we were involved with - their parents were so violent with their older siblings, they were left brain damaged. But did they take No3 child off them? No - until he was abandoned at 3 months old. He was an adorable wee lad! By the time No4 came along they had finally decided they shouldn't keep children and she was removed from them when she was born.
However, they were still given access to them! We co-fostered them for almost 2 years, they called us Mummy S and Daddy A, we loved and adored them - but we haven't been allowed to see them since they were adopted 4 years ago.
Right - got myself crying now.

The last lecture is rather a moving lecture (now book) by a university professor here in the states that was diagnosed with terminal cancer and decided to give his last ever lecture about life, the universe and everything. Kind of a legacy to his children......

I think the book is worth a read. It comes from the heart. He defied the odds for almost a year after they said but pass away a few months ago. I never met him of course but everything I read and heard about him leads me to believe he was a good, decent man that really cared about people.... The world needs more people like that.....
