Here's to the Dame.
Here's how it is...
...we have lost the best radio controller of her generation.
Rightly or wrongly, our boss Lesley Douglas, has resigned. It was something she felt she had to do. She is a fiercely loyal and hugely responsible woman who decided, as the captain of the ship, ultimately she had to take the blame. This is typical of her standards and her quality as a human being.
Lesley joined Radio 2 at the very bottom of the ladder as a humble production assistant on the Ken Bruce show in 1986. Gradually she worked her way up, learning all the time, gaining the unrivalled experience that eventually qualified her for the top job on the network. An incredible journey with one continuing theme, hard graft.
It is this that has upset us all so much. I know she may have had to go, that's the way it is at the BBC, without standards we are nothing and in this instance those standards were transgressed but to say Radio 2 losing Lesley is like Microsoft losing Bill Gates or Manchester United losing Sir Alex would not be overstating the point.
I wish you all knew her, she is Mrs. "firm but fair," she wrote the book, like the best teachers, you remember, the ones that could keep a class under control but you couldn't quite figure out how they did it. No shouting, no smacking just a natural ability to command respect.
She may have misjudged the odd situation or two, haven't we all ? I just think we would all like you to know about the many thousands of decisions she got right. Lesley was Radio 2.
The Dame, as we call her, is also a huge music fan something that was highly instrumental in her understanding of what Radio 2 must deliver. Her favorite performer by a long way... the mighty Bruce Springsteen. The Boss for The Boss, how fitting.
Long live Lesley, we all love you.

Wow - How lovely. I wish her well and take my hat off to her for her brave and honourable actions.
I only hope those who really were responsible, ie those who took the decision to air, and who should have resigned will stand up and be counted now.

I haven't either seen or heard any of the boradcast, read any of the papers and have no opinion whatsoever on the situation, BUT I think that it is always the person at the top who the buck falls to. Yes, she was the person with ultimate responsibility but surely there are others below her on the chain of command who said 'yep, we can broadcast that'. I'd like to know what should become of them? As the boss, Lesley Douglas has taken the responsibility but I fear radioland will be poorer for that.
Any large organisation has to have standards I agree BUT in this instance I'm not sure she was the one made the judgment that whatever was broadcast should have been, just because she's the boss doesn't necessarily mean she makes all the decisions.
If I'm wrong I apologise, whatever the circumtances I think you've made quite a lovely tribute to her their Chris

Agreed Chris, To be honest I think Leslie is the reason I am listening to radio 2 now and has made the station what it is. If sombody told me when I was younger I would be an avid radio 2 listener at 30 I would have laughed, However due to Leslie's decissions on new Dj's and music policy I have been listening for nearly 3 years.
Continuing from the Scary film chat from the last blog, Halloween films are great, Nightmare on elm street also good, but the best of the lot........Friday the 13th films with Jason (or was it his mom?) I used to love to watch them on a friday night when mom and dad were in bed. Its amaizing that the chap from the video (not dvd) shop let a 12/13 year old boy hire 18 rated films, imagine what would happen if they did that today!!!

Horror filums: I think the freakiest thing ever was when on my 16th birthday mum agreed to my having a sleepover. so, a roomfull of teenage girls in sleeping bags and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre on video.
Birthday = 17th August.
Start of filum: "This movie is based on events that happened on 16th August 1973"

Just looking at her picture she reminded instantly of an old primary school headteacher for some reason... someone who you could talk too and would give you a hug if you needed one but on the other side new how to be firm. Radio 2 is the best radio station in the country and I'm guessing she was instrumental in keeping it there.
This whole saga needs to die quickly now... we need some new news.

Chris - what an accolade you have given to Lesley. Up until now I think to most listeners she was an unknown "backstage" bod but without whom many of us would never had considered listening to Radio 2 .
She is obviously a very generous person - she has given up her job for others and taken responsibility for their actions and this is to be commended
however the loss of someone so obviously reveered by those she work with, is bound to have a detrimental effect on the station. The culprits at the coalface of theis debacle have been punished and taken responsiblity, Lesley at the furthest extreme at the top has taken responsibility, yet I feel that there are some in the middle who should also stand up and take the flak but wont.
Those who are TRUELY responsible should hang their heads in shame, and not let her sacrifice be in vain.
and now I vacate the soap box.
For Lesley the first ARF should be something from THE BOSS!

Hi Chris,
Such a wonderful tribute to a boss and I too came to R2 only within the last 5 years and have stayed because the programmes and DJs have been so good.
I also think the producer and editorial staff from RB's show should have stood up and taken the flack as it was their mistake the recorded show got aired. So in the investigation have they been identified - in the morning the live shows often mention producers by name saying good morning etc so who was in charge that day then?
Scary movies - it has to be the old b/w hammer horror ones for me - dracula et al
Mind you as a teenager I used to hide behind the cushion when watching Dr Who and don't watch the modern films at all. Scariest modern film I have seen was Gifted and that gave me nightmares.

Anyone ever see a film called Funhouse (which is a ghost train in the States)? Saw it about 25 years ago! That was a seriously scary film.

Wasn't Naughty Nic the producer of "that" RB SHow episode?
Tinsel - The Exorcist: went and saw it at the cinema when it was re-launched a few years back (30 year anniv?) FOund it really funny and can't believe audiences had to be carried out by medics when it was first released i nthe 1970s.
Never seen Funhouse - will have to look it up!
btw: the original version of The Fly - the e nding where the fly / man is caught in the spiders web. one of the funniest things i've ever seen on celluloid!!!
Don't you think that nowadays we're harder to shock? Films tend to be more special effects and big budget rather than low budget and genuinely (or JenEwanly!!) scary.

CLP that's lovely, I just hope the people in question realize these consequences are down to them and are suitably repentant. Enough of that from me, I swore I wouldn't get involved in that particular debate!
Well it's a beautiful day here, perfect for when dinner *AHEM* I mean trick or treaters come round later! So we have a huge bowl of sugary treats at the door in preparation - just wonder how many will still be there when the trick or treaters arrive?!

I'm now very worried about what's going to happen at Radio 2. I'm an avid fan of the station and have loved the way in which it has diversified and kept such a broad listener base. I really really wish that continues.
I'm so saddened by what's happened, not the incident involved....I never heard it so can't comment on it (something the 36,998 complainers should have done), but i'm saddened and frankly scared by the firestorm of publicity it has generated simply from the media taking a story and as usual blowing it out of all proportion. That's something we ought to worry about!
Phew, good job i'm off to Cape Town tonight on me hols...I need a break to wind down. I just hope that there will be something else in the news in two weeks time....but then again.....

I don't like scary/horror films but have watched many over the years - the ones that have scared me the most - ghost ship/the others/the orphangae/poltergiest one and two and the exercist - which I saw in Reading uni students uni on the big screen
its a shame lesley had to go - I hope RB and JR realise that this is partly there fault - but aslo partly down to the media building the story up - I hope this does not affect the great shows on radio 2

I just wanted to add my final word on the whole sorry episode, although I'm mental by the way.
Watching the recent trailer for BBC Radio 2, I thought then how fatastic to have so much good talent all together.
I think Leslie Douglas did a great job.
As for opinion on what people enjoy watching on TV or listening on radio, you can't please all of the people all of the time.
However the success of Little Britain, League of Gentleman etc shows that the public enjoy humour that pushes boundaries.
Let's hope we don't return to Hush Puppy humour in all areas in future.
Everyone makes mistakes.

I'm a real wuss when it comes to scary films but I do love them. The old b/w ones - like the Spiral Staircase - were more psychological thriller really weren't they, and deffo worked on me!!

Having just listened to Jezza's show, it was becoming increasingly apparent that most listeners feel that Leslie has been too honourable in taking the rap for the two immature children who were in her care. You were also visibly upset by her departure, and I haven't come across a single comment that supports her decision. Now that the dust is settling, can we now use the same might of R2's listeners that sorted out the offenders, to mount a serious campaign to "DON'T DITCH THE DAME"! or "LET'S GET LESLEY BACK"!
I'm sure the power of the listeners is sufficient to sway the suits to do the right thing. It is preposterous that we should lose such a talent over the disgraceful antics of those two idiots.

We can't watch horror films - Mr. Egg gets nightmares - and if he can't sleep then no-one else is allowed to!
Can't abide Slash horrors - gratuitious violence isn't horror its just wrong! the more pschological ones work best - silence of the lambs etc. Granny Egg used to be (probably would still be!) scared of the opening sequence to Quatar Mass (?) - the footsteps on the gravel!!!!!!!! Word of warning - don't sit next to her during a film just in case something jumps out - you have been warned we will not pay out for any injuries caused!
The worst "horror" film for me was the animated version of Animal Farm!!!! I've been banned from watching Bambi and watership down due to possible psycological damage if the aftermath of Animal farm is anything to go by.

Apparently, when Mr Diva was a mere lad, The Day Of The Triffids scared him sooooo much, he sleep-walked into next door's house and told the neighbours that the triffids were trying to get his mum and dad!!

If this woman was responsible for R2 as it is now, she deserves to be lauded and praised, not villified and effectively forced out of her job, as honourable as her moral resignation is, it should have been rejected.
geetting back to Halloween, found this "Top 10" Halloween songs, I don't know them all by any means but I reproduce it for your edification.
1. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - "Nightmare On My Street" (1988)

I've added my voice to the HYS debate and hope that the BBC also read the comments on here because I think they should seriously rethink accepting Lesley's resignation and should reinstate instead - provided of course the full editorial team and producers of the RB Show are shown to be punished for their part in allowing said programme to be aired.

DD - Whaaaat! Sometimes silly songs get stuck in your head and they stay there for a while and the only way to get rid of them is to try and let them out! Sometimes it means having to sing them out loud or writing them down. The downside is that inevitably they infect someone else!

Beautiful day, sunny blue skies, temps are suppose to be in the mid 60s......
Great night last night. We won our indoor football match 7-3. Me and my boy scored. Well he's 18 not really a boy. We don't often score in the same game but that's probably due to the fact that he's a striker and I am a defender. We've been playing on the same team for a number of years and we have this uncanny instinct of knowing where the other one is one the field...... weird...... a lot of fun though

Tinsel - I saw them at the 02 last December, and despite my leaning to all things rock and goth, I have to concede that it was one of the best live shows I have ever seen in my life - we were lucky tho - our seats were about 4 rows from the stage.
Managed to get standing tickets for The Stadium - now just need to find someone to go with!!!

On behalf on Bingo Star - To sum up this caryzeeness, sorry crazeeness... the reason why so many people have joined in complaining is because the alot of the general public are stupid/ short sighted. You can easily see that form the way people drive daily. (stupid that is not short sighted, althoug hmaybe some do have defective vision, that's why their driving is so bad)
And now all the talk of JR shouldn't get payed so much is just because people have hate for top celebs as they are jealious. Most of these same people complaining would love to get payed millions per year.
Top celebs get paid that because they are the top, have the talent - same as sports stars!
Also we all know the goverment want to privatise the BBC to save money (obsessed with money, forgotten that people exist have our goverments)- so anything like this they love as it all adds to sticking the knife into the beeb. They use it to try and add weight to the privatisation case and sadly short sightedly they will end yet another great british instituation.
That's why the politicians are sticking their snotty noses in.
But what all these short sighted calling for the sack of JR people don't realsie is when the beeb does evetually get privatised..... there will be far more filth on BBC radio and tv then.... believe me!!!!!!
And then it will be just a business, about money, like ITV and CH4.
Oh and PS I wouldn't invest my money in ITV's shares as they are doing terribly.....

There is all sorts of complete and utter rubbish broadcast in all sorts of ways these days. I don't like gratuitous violence or swearing during my viewing, so I tend to either avoid or switch off. I'd say none of these programmes would be any better or worse than that which was aired on R2. Someone, in the end, had to take the responsibility, and it seems it had to be Lesley.
I hope they find someone at least as good as her...but who knows, she may even be back...as possibly will Russell...
After all, look at Richard Bacon...very nicely on BBC1 thank you...

Fine comment sir. I knew someone had shaken up Radio 2 and I also knew that a lovely lady had, in the face of much wailing and gnashing of teeth, 'backed you to the hilt' when the news was released that you were to take over drive time (and a lot of people were being less than civil towards your new appointment)......but I never realised they were the same person. Like you, she is a great judge of character and knows what the people want. It is such a ludicrous shame that, in the name of honour, the irreplaceable people (are made to?) resign first.....and over something they had no direct control of.

If you weren't here to keep us all on the straight and narrow, I'd be very angry about it.
As far as ARF is concerned, I think it's been taken very good care of by Prof Plum's genius request for Radio Nowhere by The Boss.
....however, in a bid to feel like I'm joining in, my ARF request is Radio Ga Ga by Queen
(remember, the Clapping bit is only for those driving in a straight line - safety first, kids!)

A lovely tribute and I have also caught up on the video clip.
Sir Terry also said something similar this morning.
Whilst I have been a r2 listener for a while there is certainly a change for the better in the feel that (Dame) Lesley brought about which for my part makes it the radio staion of first choice.
As you have said the one thing that must happen in any organisation is that te show must go on and the positive impact she has had is built on and not lost.

I have a friend who for some reason after being a stick insect started to put on a lot of weight.

Hey Chris, listeners and team: well yesterday afternoon, I responded to Lesley 'the Dame' Douglas resigning from the BBC, on my website/blog, here's what I said:
Lesley was such a fantastic controller of BBC Radio 2 and 6Music. Lesley and Lewis Carnie helped to develop and bring to the station, some great On-Air talent (such as Ross and Brand) like Chris Evans who has since become award-winning bringing Sony Radio Academy awards to the station. It's NOT Lesley's fault, what took place between Ross, Brand and the phone-calls - Yes, it did happen on her watch, but the Producers and Broadcast Assistants on this show knew all about this Broadcast before it got broadcast last Saturday. In my mind it's the producer who should leave the BBC, not Lesley!
It's a sad loss to Radio 2, 6Music and to the BBC, for loosing a creative, thoughtful and passionate controller. I wish Lesley well.
Here's my message for Chris, which I've also posted on my site:
Chris, I'm right behind you - supporting you, the drive time team and the many others who feel saddened by Lesley Douglas departure from the BBC. I for one, would love her to return! I saw you being interviewed on the BBC and ITV News last night, and my heart just went out to you, you were so upset. What a wonderful tribute. I'm sure Lesley Douglas will appreciate it so much. You rock Chris! :)

CtD - in all fairness RB wasn't innocent - he did make the phone call (Sorry!) JR contributed to the phone call so he isn't innocent either. Daily Mail's friend (!) sanctioned it to be aired (GUILTY). Poor Lesley took the high jump (COMPLETELY INNOCENT!!!! But Very British - What ho!)

its a pity she felt the need to go, but i can't see for one minute that any future employer would hold this over-hyped, tabloid fed, non event against her, then hopefully she will come back to haunt the weak minded in the industry clammering for her's and other talented peoples heads.

Must say, I think it's a massive loss to the Beeb that The Dame has decided to resign... and more fool the idiot who accepted!!! For me, she epitomises all that is right with R2: She knows the station inside out due to the length of service she gave, she made R2 the UK's number one radio station and most important of all... she gave us CLP :-)
She's left somebody with a very difficult job trying to replace her which is impossible... so why not let her have her job back?!
For ARF I'd like to suggest: Elvis Presley - The Wonder of You or something by The Boss (both for LD!)

The R2 Messageboards are also full of comments about Lesley stepping down which shouldn't have been accepted - if there was a way to present a petition perhaps the R2 messageboards is the place. But Chris's blog is just as much read by the masses as any other public area.
The BBC HYS also has quite a few comments from people wanting her reinstated.
How to get your voice heard is the problem.
If you go to feedback there is a place for a link to complaints - maybe we all complain about her resignation?

I am sure she is a lovely person and has been a great controller of R2 and 6 music...but she (as today's news is alledging) was fully aware of the contant of the broadcast and agreed it. Enough said I think, but fair play to her for taking it on the chin so to speak. The world would be a better place if politicians acted in a similar manner.
To be fair though her credibilty was questioned in my view when she sacked Johnny Walker from radio 2 drive time, and then had him announce that it was his decision. Mr Walker refutes this in his autobiography so it would appear she can be a political animal too. Live by the sword they say ............

2. Prepare thyself for awkward questions like "what do you think you could bring to the organisation"
3. Have a question up your sleeve which shows interest.

Debbie, One of the answers I give to that "weaknesses" question is I have a hard time delegating, or I am told a I am a bit of a work-aholic. Both give the impression you're a hard worker..... that's my opinion anyway....
Interviews are funny things. I been on them and think that I have really messed up only to be invited back. Others (quite recently actually) I been on have gone extremely well (so I thought) only to be told that they gave the job to someone else....... Oh well. Keep trying. You'll get better at the interview process for each one you have... Good Luck.

Other ones where I've been unsure and got the job (not flippin' lately though!!). Prepare prepare prepare is the key, although you might still get some curveballs. A friend of mine was in one of those surreal ones, where they ask what colour you would be, and what kind of animal. What the heck are you meant to say to that????

I watched the footage of Andrew Sachs on the news website and he was utterly gracious and dignified in what he said. Of course he was offended, but it's clear that he's not out to inflame this situation at all. The fuel has been added to the fire by the Daily Bloody Mail and the tens of thousands of people who have gone out of their way to listen to the broadcast on youtube then purport to be offended.
Jonathan Ross has made me laugh til I ache so many times over the years. I think he's great, damn it, and I don't begrudge him a penny of what he earns. He must be feeling dreadful about this, particularly with the needless resignation of Lesley Douglas.
And that's the point, isn't it. By all accounts, this woman has made Radio 2 what it is today. What a waste to let her go. I understand why she feels she has to go given that this went out on her watch, as she puts it, but I feel that the responsibility lay firmly with those who edited, or rather didn't edit, the programme.
Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater. After a suitable period of time, I hope very much that Lesley Douglas can come back and carry on doing what she does evidently very well.

Excuse me if I don't join in, but I must be one of the few people in the western hemisphere who doesn't know the content of the comments made by those two (whose names escape me due to the considerable amount of wine I've consumed so far this evening!!). I just love my kids. They're the best. Have all offered to put me up for the night, but thank goodness I don't need to now my heating is back on.

I'm actually quite disappointed. My niece asked if she could stay at my house one night because she was going out in Leeds (which makes me feel soooo old!) and I was quite looking forward to it, but now she doesn't need to. Does that make me sad, I wonder. She's great though, love her to bits.

It's a fantastic place, Anne. So revitalised over the last few years. It used to be run down, just like Bradford, but they've spent bucketloads and turned it around completely. It's a great place to shop and there are pubs and restaurants in abundance. If only a was born a few miles over.......

Just love watching the local news when in bolt hole - Llandovery health and safety madness - shop owners not allowed to put trees on front of shops using bloke and ladder - now has to be scaffolding or a cherry picker - someone - what is a cherry picker? or do themselves!

Noooo Beesmum, ladders not allowed any more. Cherry picker is one of those baskets on the end of a crane type contraption.
Roofers aren't allowed to use just ladders any more if a roof is over a certain height, they have to use scaffolding. Which incurs the cost of hiring said scaffolding for them, which means it's more expensive for the customer. H&S gone flippin' mad!

I have to say, I think it was totally unnecessary for her to resign and it saddens me to see a lady with such obvious talent and ability. There is something wrong with the Beeb if this is the kind of standards they have - deal with the ones who have transgressed, but there is no need for sacrifices like this. Radio 2 will be the lesser for losing her! Can we not petition the Beeb to persuade her to withdraw her resignation?
Anyway - our thoughts, prayers and love go out to Lesley - the company she works for next are most fortunate!

Huge thanks for pressies Niamh received ? you kind bunch! She is 4 weeks old now, doing fantastically - you have no idea how much your thoughts, love and prayers meant to us when she was in SCBU!
You know what appaled me? On the news last night or it may have been earlier, the whole sad case with Brand and Ross was the first item on the news ? and second was the human tragedy in the Democratic Republic of Congo!!!! What the blazes is wrong with our society that a furore over 2 broadcasters stepping over the line o decency is a more important news item than the atrocities happening to our fellow human beings in another country!!?? People are being abused and killed amidst the chaos in this war torn land - yet someone deems the Brand / Ross saga more newsworthy. Sometimes I just want to run away from our so-called society ? preferably to a beautiful island!!
Ok ? stepping off my soap box ? I can see a couple of folk sidling up with the intent of pushing me off it!!
Scary movies - has to be some of the Japanese horrors like The Ring (Ringu in Japan), One Missed Call (Chakushin ari in Japan), The Grudge (Ju-on in Japan) - the remakes are scary but if you can see the original Japanese ones ? they are utterly freaky and disturbing! Best watched in the dark! But at the mo my bro has Scary Movie on ? never seen it!
Charis is so not impressed with this Halloween lark and closes her eyes every time she sees Halloween stuff! She refused to go to her nursery party today incase anyone had a scary costume on! Bless!

PS: Forgot to tell you about the allotment prize giving: mr diva didn't win a prize BUT the funniest thing was one of the old gits on the lotments has been really anti the Parish Council and went into cynicism overdrive when it was announced that prizes would be presented by our MP for South Suffolk. He was adamant he wasn't going to go to the prize evening, didn't want any part in it, the MP using the allotments for his green creds etcetc.
The gentleman in question came 4th (out of 95 alotments). Won a prize. Prize presented by local MP and the best bit .... pic will be in next week's local paper!

I'm glad that they've got Alex Lester sitting in for RB's slot until they've got someone else. Else good and funny (well he is at 0300 every morning) And Richard Allison sitting in for JR Wont be quite the same as JR but it should be worth listening to none the less. Not sure that the Dark Lord's humour will carry over onto a Sat night primetime but he's been with R2 for i think 25 yrs so he must be doing summat right. I think they've made the right choices (for now) with the DJ's they've picked even if they are a bit on the "sensible" side.
What's everyones plans for the w/e? i gotta tax me car then doing naff all all w/e again. Mind you i never seem to do naff all these days at a w/e :-D (must be summat in the planning) Mind you i did have an early night last night . . . i was falling asleep by 8 and managed to last til about 9 before going to bed . . . woke up at 0445 :( finally got out of bed at 7.30. A lovely blog Chris, she is obviously a wonderful woman who has crafted Radio 2 into a well loved station. I just hope that having lost your 'Captain' the ship doesn't start to lose its direction. I've read a few articles on the net and I'm starting to worry that rifts are forming between the presenters, it's time to stick together guys and keep delivering top quality radio.
This incident was never really about complaining on what RB and JR did, it was a witch hunt and in my eyes the Daily Mail has cost Lesley her job. They have a lot to answer for. I'm sure the her reputation will however mean she'll be manning another team in the not too distant future.

Im afraid as a very radical Pastor said in the US."The chickens have come home to roost"For far to long presenters like Ross,Brand and even Chris Evans have been pushing ever closer to that line even going over it at times but those in charge of the BBC just looked the other way or on those rare occassions when they didnt all that was handed out was a gentle slap on the wrist.As a license payer I object to my money being paid to those who's humour is unfunny and at best useless.Now there are those in tears because their antics have caused those whom "they loved" to lose their jobs.Now lets see how long their "repentance"will be until some other "much loved official"will again lose their job after another offensive remark from overpaid idiots.

Back from football this morning. At least everyone turned up this morning. I gave them all a bit of verbal for not turning last week (it was raining if you remember).

fallen1, if you speak to any of the bloggers here, they will tell you that I am respectful of all ages (being 40 myself so no spring chicken) and respectful of all points of view until they become personal and attack individuals. Just click on my user name and you will see my comments.
My comment was not meant to be sarcastic - I had been over to the message boards and was indeed reminded of why I stick to this blog and do not join in the message boards - I was appalled at some of the comments there (some of the more offensive and crude ones seem to have gone now) so decided not to comment at that time. It was just unfortunate that when I posted here my comment followed yours - it was nothing to do with what you said as I didn't see it until logging back on just now.
And ... I have already complained about the offensive nature of the phone calls made - I do listen to / watch Ross and Brand regularly but felt that they really had over stepped the mark. I also expressed that it was they who should be dealt with for their unprofessionalism, and I do feel that Lesley resigned when she should not have - does that give you an indication as to where my loyalties and respect lie?
As my fellow bloggers know, I haven't been around much of late, partly due to our baby's impending birth, partly to a lot of disrespect that was going on here. Guess it was a stupid time to return! Sheesh!

Bless you Annie - just tired - you know how it is - and just got cheesed off as my sympathies do lie with Andrew Sachs - I can't imagine what it must be like to come home to messages like that about your grand-daughter! As folk know, I am a huge fan of the likes of Ross and Brand, but strongly felt (as they both acknowledge themselves) that they went beyond the bounderies.

Far too many reality shows on with 'experts' who just like the sound of their own voice! I think many of the individuals who go for these shows want the fame, but either have no talent, or don't want to put in the hard work and graft. Is Cheryl the lass who is always crying?

Oh I don't know who could replace David Tennant. I was beside myself when Christopher left, but loved the way David played the Doctor. I think he brought a whole new element to the character. Who are they suggesting it could be?

Having heard all that has happened this week I have the greatest admiration and respect for Lesley Douglas for standing up and taking, rightly or wrongly, the flak for errors of those under her auspices. What a shame that some of the other people in this unfortunate affair do not have the integrity and rectitude of character to stand up and be counted.
I wish Lesley Douglas all the best for the future....Radio 2's loss will be somebody else's gain.

Lovely morning here in Glasgow - in fact yesterday was gorgeous too - what's that about? In Glasgow we are used to rain, rain and then some more rain!
CtD: I really did try to add my comment on your link at My Music. Honestly, I have never read such negativity - I'm not talking about Lesley Dougas here - I mean, life in general! What a truly horrible bunch. After reading the first 10 posts I had answers that disturbed even ME! I thought it best to just stay off - I will never read those message boards again.

The answer is quite simple.
If presenters are made responsible for what they say then so should the public.
People who log into a BBC website should provide real name and address and if found to be posting slurs etc face prosecution.

Just a quick drive-by to say hello and catch up.
I've got my teccy head on today - just about to attempt transferring all the old stuff from my PC to this magic wee lappy thingy. Getting used to it now! Was right chuffed last night - managed to set up the email on lappy without having to phone the geek squad. Not sure how i did it, but it works, much to my amazement!
Next ... the iToons library, photos, documents etc. Yikes!
Mr Diva currently busy bottling our first batch of homemade blackcurrant wine. Apparently it then has to mature in the bottles for a minimum of 6 months ... so lots of time to build up a thirst ....!

And so the intrepid athletes return to Rudgwick.
We did it!
While you lot were munching your toast and marmite in bed this morning, contemplating the prospect of another steaming mug of tea, Mrs MfR and I were out in the cold and mud running the Loseley 10k for CHASE.
1000 fellow nutters joined us on a bloomin' tough course in bloomin' tough conditions. I mean, which sadist decided that a serious hill 2k in to a 10k race was a good idea?
But we braved the conditions and finished in surprisingly respectable times.
And all for a good cause.
Once back in Rudgwick Towers it was a hot bath, coffee and cheese on toast. Not all at the same time, of course, that would be silly. You would drop crumbs in the bath and get bubbles all over your mature cheddar.
Any road. We've earned a nice quiet afternoon, so that's what we're going to have.

Good evening one and all from County Kildare, where it's colder than a penguin's chuff and where I've just welted a polar bear tryin' to break into me car with a wire coat hanger. Musta bin after me Uggs and woolly hat.

So now the dust is starting to settle, I just wanted to say that I spent a very entertaining afternoon at my eating disorders conference discussing not what we were actually there for but this whole furore; and it seems everyone here in the land of the bold and edgy humour (Ireland) is in agreement that the whole thing has been, not unjustified, but unfair and the wrong heads have rolled. But that what goes around comes around.
And that bullying, humiliation and mysoginy is NEVER funny.
Okey dokey, am off for a bottle of pop. After drivin' up through the Sunday evening traffic from Wexford I'm parched and am dangerously close to contractin' gangrene in me buttocks.

I don't think Ross shoulda resigned and not being a fan of Brand i don't think he should have either. It was all down to the producers of the show and their higher ups to have pulled the plug on it and in failing to do their jobs properly . .. THEY should be the ones that do the decent thing. It the producers job to make sure that things are hunky dory the presenters/DJ's are there to do the job they are paid to do and if that job includes going close to the knuckle then so be it. You wouldn't sack a Corperal for something a Major passed would you.

Loyalty plays a part in my life and Jonathan Ross has given me years of pleasure. The You Tube clip above I posted of Russell Brand is very funny but say's it all really.

Well how about that then - totally exhausted -
took doggy to beach - tide out - must be on lead and although v long training lead we still had to jog half way round Wales before he reached the sea - thought he was off to see Clodagh the speed he jumped in to the waves!! Well as the crow flies he would have made it in no time!
watching F1 - talk about last minute - good old rain - whew!!!
and then Top gear with parky and the trucks - seeing what Bingo has to handle - but does depend on the rig I guess - want to try though!

I think Douglas shouldnt have resigned.
But I thank her for giving you another chance Chris and I thank her for dragging Radio 2 into the 21st Century.
Its a major shame she had to resign but she did the right thing giving Radio 2 the kick it needed.
Hope that the person who replaces her as Radio 2 Controller keeps the presenters where they are.
But I hope Lesley Douglas can get back to another job within the BBC, but I thank her for giving you the chance Chris and for dragging Radio 2 where it is now.

morning all....another fine day in Gotham City
Well it really was the weekend of spooky goings on wasn't it? Spurs unbeaten in 3, against the top team too! L'Arsenal lose at the long throwers, Man Citeh fans on the usual rollercoaster and Hull nearly, just nearly pull off a great draw. Cheryl, sorry for the updates (well, mickey taking actually) but it's been a long season already and you were let off lightly compared to some!!!!!!!
Worked the weekend, all in darkness, this is the first time since Sept that i will have more than a day off, October has merged into a blur.
Went to a rememberance service last night for my lovely first wife, a time of fond reflection was had by all, a few tears shed and a glass of the bubbly stuff raised to the sky after. Daughter #1 still as great as ever, coping well, a big thanks to those that regularly ask x

A waz able ter watch the race last neet live and whatta race. Am afraid Lewis did blow it if am 'onest. Am mean ter be struggling for 5th is abit noot the usual Lewis. But a guess it's one of those strange situations were yer don't know what ter do for the best. Do yer go 'ell ter leather and risk a DNF or do yer take it easy and just get yer 5th place. Only probs it didn't seem ter be going Lewis's way. Even at one point 'e waz struggling ter pass Fisichella, nyyyaaa!!@! I thought..... OHHHHH NYET... soz shhhhh! Ohh nyet, don't let Fisi of all people be the one ter take out Lewis and wreck 'is championship..... but eventually Lewis goot past 'im. And Fisi a clean driver... never do the dirty on anyone intentially - know what am sayin'!!!!!!
But the near the end of the race, last seven laps from the championship.. ohhh no, ave never seen a race like it.. rain coming and noot knowing whether the weather is going ter determine whether ter go onter wet weather tyres or whether ter stay on wet weather tyres aka dry!!!!
When Lewis came inter the pits a thought ohhh nooo blown it... can't believe it.... not know.. DAMN IT!!! shhhh!
But then when Massa man came in too then a thought it's ok... A thought chill!!!
But then when it didn't start raining, a few laps from the race end, it looked as if Lewis waz gonna finish outside the top 5... a couldn't take it, but then 'e waz in 5th so it was ok.... A thought chill!!!

No signs of "sauce" yet today: just smooth peanut butter. Why? What is the point? Peanut butter should have peanuts in it. You jollop the smooth stuff on your toast and it just melts into a gloopy mess. The peanuts in peanut butter hold it together, give it bite.

When LM was having packed lunches he wasn't allowed peanut butter in case he shared sandwich with someone allergic.
I must admit, the school dinners look lovely these days. He is having bangers'n'mash today.

(#306) So glad your daughter is still doing well, she sounds like a lovely girl, must be the genes!
Luther is going well, never realised he sang backing vocals on so many brilliant records. Another fave of mine is him duetting with Cheryl Lynn, I think it's called If this world were mine, really beautiful song.
Had a hectic weekend, sleepovers, babysitting, trick or treating and Halloween parties. Someone I know very well was at THE party this weekend, I could tell you all about it but I'd have to kill you!
Just baked a chocolate cake with number 2 son. it looks lovely but the icing's a bit shaky! Licked out the icing bowl but can't eat any cake as I've rejoined Fat Fighters and I want an impressive first week weight loss.

Hi Susan,
How on earth did you manage to read all those messages AND reply individually to all of us? Niamh must be a very good baby or maybe you're just very good at multi-tasking! I looked after my niece who is 4 months old for a few hours on Saturday and I was a nervous wreck! Ha ha, nothing really to tell about the party, except the host was charming and the Krispy Kreme doughnuts delicious!
Cheryl - I completely agree about Lewis Hamilton, I haven't got a clue what the colour of his skin has to do with anything.
Debbie - my eldest has a peanut allergy and once when he was little another child tried to force him to eat a peanut at lunchtime! I was not happy, so I think it's probably safer for schools to ban them altogether. I absolutely LOVE peanut butter and the day he leaves home I'm going to treat myself to a jar of the stuff!!

Hope you all had a good weekend. Sunny, mild here today. It is supposed to be in the upper 60s for most of the week, no snow in the forecast which is wonderful.
Great win for Lewis at the weekend. A British F1 champion is long over due. Kind of makes up for the rather poor England performance at cricket and rugby this weekend.

I threatened to put up a poster of Old Russ. Calendars now in boot of his car to give to friends at the weekend!

Tiggs, I think they've cancelled the show. I used to watch it. It started out quite good. Funny story is that our Eddie got caught for jay-walking (only in America eh?) just after he had left the set. He was still in his American mode and forgot to switch out of it when he tried to explain he was English and didn't know about the law.... The cop of course didn't believe him and get him a ticket.....
