In the buff, in the hot tub, in the pub and Scouting for Beers.

Chris Evans | 16:37 UK time, Thursday, 28 August 2008

What a...

...total and utter laff.

We had a riot yesterday in the hot tub but I have never been so dehydrated and then re-hydrated with all the wrong stuff.

The boys from the band came with and stayed way beyond what was good for them considering they had a video shoot for their new single at 6 a.m. this morning.

Can't remember much else other than Nick Faldo's son turning up for some reason!

Hot tub looked sad and lonely this morning, another spent force used up and washed out by this merciless industry we call showbizz.

Another special follows tonight. How can we do a normal show after two belters already this week.

CLP.

Blog gone very quiet last few days....not much fun for us that like to just lurk around sometimes as not enough time to start the whole sign in stuff! where d'ya all go? Just cos CtD off for few days!!!???? we lurkers still expecting reading material, contrary to others opinions!!! (that's my controversial line for the day!)

Had lovely walk with Alf tonight. Went to leafy walk next to river and was right up close to a heron. Thought it would stay all night. Never managed to see one up so close. It just delicately padded through the water. Then a fish jumped. Felt all in touch with nature. Then 4 human beans came along and scared him off....not intentional like! Ahhh, Alf thankfully did not spot said heron. He was off sniffing the usual spots....

Right off to get some 'stuff' done. And as it Thirsty Thurs, off to have nice cold gls of Pinot!!!

Ah dreamer, you kind of said what I have been thinking too.

I have felt a bit uncomfortable about posting due to recent comments on here.
I sometimes type a post then delete it and walk away.

I also have things going on at home that are making it hard to concentrate on what's going on in here. Obviously so not going to pour my heart out on here, learnt that the hard way lol!

I popped in recently, noticed very few posts and little to read. Although the posts that were here were great ones.

I thought to myself that I would rather come here and find loads of posts to trawl through, maybe skip through if necessary, than find nobody posting at all.

    Anyway, that's just my opinion.

Have you learned nothing from this blog?

You don't just let us know you are 40 on the day.

You start the build up several weeks in advance then build to a crescendo on the day itself.

Post birthday, you tell us how great it was and how many prezzies, cards and balloons you got from all your many admirers.

If your old man then has a birthday shortly afterwards so much the better. Then you let us know plan for your weekend in a big city of your choice so that we can post about what we think you are up while you are not posting.

This of course keeps your name alive even though you are not here.

Hope this helps anyone else approaching the big 40 (other birthdays are available).

So I was lying there mulling things over and I thought about a comment that went unanswered yesterday. Somebody referred to the "middle classiness" of the children on last night's show.

Can we all please admit the fact that, by and large, Radio 2 (including CLP's fabulous show) is indeed a middle class domain. Posh food, fast cars, expensive hobbies abound.

We all like to think we are caring and sharing, and I'm sure we are all "lovely" etc etc and I know that most of us aren't loaded. But I would imagine that the vast majority of people who listen to the show are, in modern terms, middle class. Or aspire to be. This may not sit comfortably with those of us who do not read the Daily Mail (unless they come across it at their Mum's house, that doesn't count), but nevertheless it is true.

I taught in an inner city primary school in a very deprived area so I do know what I'm talking about.

Bloggers of note for humour for me would be TTT, Dr Mc Crumble, Clodagh, Moose, KYLE(COULD IT BE JEREMY) EJR and perhaps others I have missed out on.

Not everybody want's to chat in a humourous way however and that is not a bad thing. Serious comments or people just reaching out with a problem they can talk about virtually occasionally that's life.

What is a shame though, is when the blog turns into into comments such as "Your go on scrabs.. surely that is not a good thing".

Also I am a huge fan of Radio 2 and always listen to Chris and Steve Wright when I can because they are simply the best.. oh that's a good Arf Choice.

"It is certainly not the place of anybody who posts on here to tell somebody to go elsewhere because they do not like what they have posted.

Likewise nobody can dictate what the ambience of the blog is to be. Some want it to be light and fluffy, and others want something a bit more serious. Surely a blend of the two would merely relect real life."

Now, I have had some trouble with some of Ted's posts in the past, but wholeheartedly agree with his sentiment here, and think it should apply to everyone. Differences of opinion should be welcomed, but could we please not descend to insults (either direct or implied, because even if they're implied we can all usually guess at whom they're directed) because there's really no need.

    Afternoon all,

Have just caught up on the days posts and wanted to clarify something mentioned in a way previous post - at the risk of digging it all up again - which is not my intention, so feel free to stop reading now if you wish.

It was me who used the "cool kids' phrase, and I didn't mean any particular group of individuals it was meant as the blog as a collective. as far as I am concerned you are all the cool kids.

Another example of how written conversations can lose the original meaning. I had never blogged before, and have never been part of a big collective of people. I was always the one who didn't quite fit anywhere at school and seem to have carried it through some aspects of life with me, so I guess that fear of not fitting in and being accepted - which in relation to the blog turned out to be a totally unfounded fear is actually what I was referring to with the cool kids comment. Apologies for any confusion, I was just making an attempt to calm some stormy waters.

    Afternoon each

Skived off early and am home - door open into the garden, sunny and warm. Thought I'd mention that cos it happens so rarely these days. Bottle of Pino thingy cooling in fridge ready for the wine club. Hope I'm not the only member.

Elvis would be good for ARF - Jailhouse Rock please.

MV: You're not boring at all. Think it's just sometimes there are so many posts that by the time I get down to 'post a comment' I've forgotten who I want to reply to.

Hope everyone has a sunny weekend.

Afternoon MV, AF and the rest of the crew you know who you are.... I'm officially lurking.

My arf thanks to TTT is Dave Edmunds Sabre Dance (he says the new guitar version on his new album is even faster than the Love Sculpture version). So please play it for me. stuck in an office with the Air Festival going on and no chance of seeing anything much - you can hear the jets but not see them... so frustrating.

    Off back to lurk

hello all - well it's the "most won-der-ful tiiime of the weeek"!! Wish I could bottle this feeling (did someone say bottle?) and uncork, or unscrew, it again on all those dark mornings ahead... but never mind, will enjoy it whilst it's here and hope you do too!
If anybody's interested, I think my toe is reattaching itself to the rest of me, and in the right place too - which is nice!
Bit disappointed that on hearing that about a broken my toe, most people's reaction is to say "ouch" and screw their faces - or to laugh... At the risk of sounding like Margot Leadbetter, "Why is it funny??"
Off to cook something delicious and unhealthy and open a bottle of something to use responsibly, obviously... Prefer screwcaps tho', much less faff, but have to say one of my favourite sounds is a cork leaving a bottle...

I was wondering why my ears were burning today and a read of the posts tells me why.

I've been grouped in with the nasties, been mentioned for my humour and been told I talked sense in a recent post.

This is a little confusing as I try to be consistent in my posting, but on the other hand I think that that's the way it should be. The world would be such a dull place if we all agreed on everything

As I have said before I try to stay on the right side of nastiness, but as it has been pointed out the written word is a blunt instrument in comparison with speech.

All I will say in my defence is that some of my posts may have been taken without the required pinch of salt

This place is a broad church, and long may it be so.

    And here endeth the sermon.
