2 days ago I recieved a media message on my phone from my daughter showing me her pic like the one above, my 3rd grandchild and I'm only 44. My first was 6 years ago but I have to say I do not feel like a grandad or act like one either (I have the proof lol) It is amazing what they can do with scaners and when you see it yourself it is just amazing.

Errol - weird man. I was singing Bowie's Kooks all weekend, but can't get to the vinyl to play it!!

Gingembre - What a wonderful achievement for your daughter - you must be the proudest Dad in the land, and rightly so. {{{hug}}} Her Mum will be with her every step of the way.
As a kid I was into playing houses and dancing! You wouldnt' believe it to see me now lol Loved tap, ballet, modern and ballroom. My Dad made me a special big board I use to put out in the back garden to practise my tap dancing! Also used to love playing pretend shops selling the veg and rhubard from the garden lol I had a huge dolls pram, it was like a mini silver cross pram and I used to make my younger brother go in the pram and wheel him up and down the street for hours, his arms and legs would be dangling over the edge of the pram hahaha....ah the memories.

eleanor - can you not be happy for the man - its his first 9as far as I know) and for one day a well done is in order
Also some people try for years to have a child and it doesn't always happen and each child is a miracle and you don't know what position people are in so please be a bit careful of peoples feelings on this delicate subject - to some people it can harder theb rocket science!
sorry - I think that is the first time I have had a go on this site but one glib comment can bring someone to tears - not me ( I hope) - but we have difficulties in my family and its a very hard thing to deal with!

Greetings and Salutations from hot and sunny Vancouver, Canada.
May I join the chorus who have offered Mr. Evans and Ms.Shishmanian thier most hearty congratulations. Though I am not yet a father, I can but imagine the elation that this must inspire. Health and happiness to the three of you.
Though busy at work as ever, I have continued to read this wonderful blog even when time has not afforded me the luxury of contributing. As ever, the humour, enetente cordiale and coninually sanguine content is a joy to behold.
With a breast cancer gala fund raiser this evening, a football match tomorrow evening, a Cirque Du Soliel matinee followed by a piquant dinner on Saturday (my girlfriend's birhtday treats) and then tennis on Sunday, I may not have time to write tomorrow.
With that said, I can but wish everyone a thriving thirsty Thursady, a fun-filled Friday, superb Saturday and slow and steady Sunday. Cheers to one and all.

MsRigsby - just briefly, regarding your comment on internet friends. Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience.
About three years ago I started visited a site aimed at new mums. Through a forum designed to introduce mums a lady got in touch me. It turned out she lived only a few miles away.
Her little boy and mine are now best friends. Our husbands get on, with have meals together etc. I'm meeting up with her tomorrow in fact. She has actually turned out to be one of my best friends.
Sometimes these things turn out ok.

When my little monster was a babybel, I used to sing to him Groovy Kind of Love by Phil Collins. The line"when Im feeling blue all I have to do is take a look at you then Im not so blue...."kinda summed up how he made me feel from the first moment I looked at his scan piccy. He's now 8 and I still adore him!

I became an auntie again yesterday, Matilda weighed in at 7lb 13oz, mother and baby are now at home and doing well (I visited today but left just after she did her first rotten egg nappy - my nappy changing days are over).

Actually what I'd like to suggest is the poignant John Lennon song, "Beautiful Boy", but it's not right for ARF. Makes me cry every time.
And would have the same effect as my choice of song for the Genius Daughter, following my speech at her 18th birthday party. What a riot that was, party games, wall-to-wall Pimm's and champers and a punch that turned everyone who took a sip into Marty Feldman, water balloons and general eejit behaviour all round.
I stood up to deliver my speech; a monologue thanking said daughter for bringing me up safely, disciplining and grounding me when necessary, everybody in stitches and the daughter with the face in full mock disdain. Then it all went pear-shaped when I finished with, 'But seriously,'...looked around at all these lovely people, all of whom had supported us both through what had been some tough times, ready to toast the child of whom I was, and am increasingly, proud as punch, a chip off her Granddad's old block; and promptly burst into tears. Hurriedly, the brother-outlaw put on the prepared song, namely Van Morrisson's 'Have I Told You Lately..' and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
I've never lived it down, the brother-outlaw tells the tale substituting Leonard Cohen for Van the Man, and regularly puts my name forward for funeral oration, hahaha.
Anyway all was well, the evening went on in full swing, finishing as usual with the final party game, Everybody Finish Off The Whisky Then Somebody Leave The Room, And Everybody Else Guess Who It Was.
So Christoff. If you and Tash are only half as proud as me of your little tadpole, you will be a lucky, lucky pair. If having to go through all those tough times is the price I have to pay for having my gorgeous baby, I'd do it all again in a heartbeat and never change a thing.

Oh my goodness!!!! Oh Christoff and Tash ... HUGE congratulations! How exciting! So how many weeks is 6cm?!Around about 12, 13 weeks?
I'm 25 weeks this week (and I know there are another couple of Mummy-bumps onthe blog!!), but haven't had the 3D scan - that is the BEST scan I have seen!!! The others I've seen just scare me!
So very chuffed for both of you! Give our love and huggles to Mummy and bump!

Haven't waded through all the comments, but I have to say that I'm really saddened by some of the negativity expressed, though I have always loved the blog for the diversity of opinions and personalities we have here! I shall certainly endeavour to try not to bore anyone with my own baby bump news, I know it can be very boring for folk.
However, it is a life changing, exciting event for families, and there is nothing wrong with getting caught up in the moment. Goodness, if folk didn't fall pregnant where would humanity be then!? :o)
I do try these days not to take things that are said on the blog personally (even when they are aimed directly at me!) but I do hate to be made to feel a lesser person because I am a Mum-to-be and excited about that! And yes, I know that is not what was indicaed, but that is how one is made to feel. My 1st pregnancy was such a miracle, as I'd been told I couldn't have children, then I had a life threatening condition at the birth and was nearly a goner, so our daughter was even more special given they saved me. And after a miscarraige last year, this current pregnancy is very special too as it looks like we are going to have this baby. So it's certainly not rocket science for everyone and I find it insulting that it is thought to be so.
Anyhow, didn't mean to droan on, forgive me CLP and bloggers!

Anyone who can't express happiness at the joyful news of a pregnancy has a serious problem. That's just my humble opinion of course but one that I'm proud of!

Chris, I know I'm biased because I'm an antenatal teacher but PLEASE go to NCT antenatal classes!!! They are SO much better than anything else around. Ask Jamie and Jools Oliver. Don't let the hospitals lie to you. Just because you pay lots of money doesn't mean you get good care and good information.

To be honest, would much rather read your stop start comments over some of the shoot-stirring (spelling is not correct) twaddle that appears on here.
Beesmum, Debbie-C, Jumping, Susan and anybody else that has fallen victim to the petty comments, you all have my support, and I'm sure that of many others.
Prof/Coco/eleanor - you are obviously a seasoned blogger and in the past have raised many an interesting point and kept us entertained. Recently however you have become more cynical and critical with your posts and it makes me wonder what has happened recently to make you appear bitter. Just the other day complaints were made about the blog being too chatty and not relevant to Chris's blog, yet today when virtually every blog has been relevant we still are faced with your negativity.

As the elder of this blog - most likely - this was supposed to be a happy day for CLP - by the way it is his blog! - and the majority of posts were very heartfelt congratulations - might I just say keep the congratulations here -
moderators remove all negative comments and transfer them to another day - tomorrow or whenever/wherever - do not delete - apart from I expect one or two quite nasty comments and let the debate go on as it is lovely to see how many new bloggers felt the need to comment.

I am really taken aback by some peoples vitiolic commenting.
I for one love the 'family' atmosphere here. I love knowing the detail for peoples daily lives. I love reading the instant funny messages that appear and the banter between virtual husband/wife, I love finding new receipies, knowing what people are looking forward to and how it felt afterward, I love reading clodagh's pearls of wisdom and hilarous expereinces.
Chris himself often shares the small things that have happened to him on daily basis both good and bad so why shouldn't we?

Just got sent this email - made me laugh so i thought I would share it with you guys.................
THE NEXT REALITY SURVIVOR SERIES
Six married men will be dropped on an island with one car
and 3 kids each for six weeks.
Each kid will play two sports and either take music or dance classes.
There is no fast food.
Each man must take care of his 3 kids; keep his assigned house clean,correct all homework, and complete science projects, cook, dolaundry, and pay a list of 'pretend' bills with not enough money.
In addition, each man will have to budget in money for groceries each week.
Each man must remember the birthdays of all their friends andrelatives, and send cards out on time--no emailing.
Each man must also take each child to a doctor's appointment, a dentist appointment and a haircut appointment.
He must make one unscheduled and inconvenient visit per child to theUrgent Care.
He must also make cookies or cupcakes for a social function.
Each man will be responsible for decorating his own assigned house, planting flowers outside and keeping it presentable at all times.
The men will only have access to television when the kids are asleep and all chores are done.
The men must shave their legs, wear makeup daily, adorn himselfwith jewelry, wear uncomfortable yet stylish shoes, keep fingernails polished and eyebrows g roomed.
During one of the six weeks, the men will have to endure severeabdominal cramps, back aches, and have extreme, unexplained mood swings but never once complain or slow down from other duties.
They must attend weekly school meetings, church, and find time at least once to spend the afternoon at the park or a similar setting.
They will need to read a book to the kids each night and in the morning, feed them, dress them, brush their teeth and comb their hair by 7:00 am.
A test will be given at the end of the six weeks, and each father will be required to know all of the following information: each child's birthday, height, weight, shoe size, clothes size and doctor's name. Also the child's weight at birth, length, time of birth, and length of labor, each child's favorite color, middle name, favorite snack, favorite song, favorite drink, favorite toy, biggest fear and what they want to be when they grow up.
The kids vote them off the island based on performance. The last man win's only if...he still has enough energy to be intimate with his spouse at a moment's notice.
If the last man does win, he can play the game over and over and over again for the next 18-25 years eventually earning the right To be called Mother!

Eleanor, honey - I have just realised who you are! My brain is very slow these days! I just wanted to say that I know (though it perhaps doesn't look it) what you are going through and you know where I am on FB if you want to share - I did take offence at what you said and took it personally, which was daft I know, but just being honest! And some of us have met up already and had such a blast - I can truly say that some of these ladies and lads have become awesome friends!

what happened on here last night?
Just got through all the blogs and this is my summary
1) yes it is chatty due to the new format - it means you can have instant feedback to your comments - if its gettign a bit boring skip through a bit - I do!
2) it is simple manners to congratute someone on a pregnacy when they tell you - whatever your feelings on the subject - and manners cost nothing
3) I think todays convesation had been pretty in deapth and people have got upset - and yet people complain when it is light and fluffy - I never pretend that i have something worth saying but the people I talk too (and have met in real life) have been great and it does feel like a big family and I do share every part of my life with my family!
well thats my ten pence worth - it would be a shame to lose people of the board but thats free will for you!
And can people please stick to the same name (I know we all had to change too the new blog - me from Elm to super_bagpuss) otherwise coco/elenor or whoever you are people don't know you and it is hard to interprut your comments.
No ARF from me today song today - plenty above seem great and I'm happy to go with most things

Many hip hip horrays Chris and Natasha. What a lovely happening. I have never been so blessed which makes it all the more wondrous when it happens to others who are so clearly in love and committed to each other.
Funnily enough I took a course in rocket science during my Infertility Clinic days which I found quite difficult. So I am pleased to hear it isn't rocket science or I would go on blaming my inability to grasp the fundamentals of rocket science for my baby-less state!

Congratulations - glad all is well. Suggestion for first song on all request Friday. Going to see Boyzone in Concert at Edinburgh Castle tonight, please play "Love Me for a Reason" by Boyzone. Saw The Osmonds in Newcastle in May and they did their version of it, so would make my day to here Boyzone's version.

Morning all. And thanks for being sweet to me last evening in the wake of what was a strange time on the old blog.
I'd be lying if I said it didn't hurt a little to be taken to task like that; I've been accused many times in my 53 years of being bonkers, unpredictable, irrational, dramatic, irresponsible, reckless, self-centred and plain daft- and am guilty as charged to all of the above- but never spiteful. But hey, that's life and you have to roll with the punches don't you. And if you can't take it back you shouldn't dish it so all is well.
As for Renee. She is amazingly well and back to her bold ways. As I speak she is wrestling with a 13-amp plug in a bid to attract my attention so if I disappear, don't fret. It will just be meself meetin' the same sticky end as Gary Gilmour.
So wish me luck for later. I'm takin' her out to get her sorted with a couple of new bras so she'll be flashin' the War Wound to all and sundry and nobody in Wigan will ever eat stuffed pork belly again.
I had to laugh at her yesterday, though, when the sister commented to me that we should watch out for the first sign of the old Alzheimer's.
"Oy you cheeky beggar," retorted Renee. "I heard that. Well it's me bust I've lost, not me mind."

Please don't feel despondent - he loves it really I'm sure!! I planned a surprise birthday at a lovely restaurant for the 'drag anchor' once. Only a few close freinds and family. Restaurant baked a special cake, arranged a special table and when I said to him on the day "let's go out for dinner as it's your birthday", he guessed and said "No". I begged, cajoled, pleaded and cried and he just put the telly on louder and opened a beer.
I ended up going on my own as I couldn't let the folks down. Needless to say it was the worse dinner I've been to. Had to pretend it was my birthday to the restaurant manager as he had gone to so much trouble. Never again. Never ever again. A little life-sparkler went out in me that night.

Yes, Debbie, it was horrible.
My problem is that some of the "we're lovely people and your not" posse don't seem to see that they are equally guilty.
I have very much enjoyed being a part of this blog for the last 18 months or so and have received support and advice through some tricky times. However, I no longer feel a part of it. I'm not on FB - and each time some newbie is welcomed with the comments: "come on FB, we're all there and we're all lovely" just reinforces the feeling that only certain people are welcome in the blog.
It's true, Debbie, I am fiesty and I'm not 'lovely' but up until very recently I always felt welcome and tolerated on this site. Now I do not feel able to continue either schlogging or lurking.
I don't suspect I will be missed.

Who's looked at Christoff LambPie jumpin' outa that plane.
I'm STILL in me MAD JEALOUS RAGE and am off without delay to strap meself to some poor unsuspectin' chap and lepp outa there meself. In fact I'm goin' to enrol for a wing-walk. You can do that down in County Cork I believe, fab hurrah just you WAIT CLP while I send yous the photos.
And just in case me parachute lets me down or we fly under a low bridge in Magillicuddy Reeks, yous is all invited to the hooley when the ex-hubby has to carry me coffin (on his own) to the strains of Josef Locke's 'Blaze Away', and the Genius daughter has to carry half an onion in her hanky in case she can't sob convincingly.

I'd only posted for the first time yesterday but read the blogs daily, as I love the banter. I can't believe that Chris's wonderful news sparked such dreadful posts from a few people. How anyone can begrudge others' simple congratulations is beyond me. What a shame.

I don't think I'd count you at all in the nasty category. Please don't feel like you have to leave just because you're not on fb, it would be a boring world if everyone agreed on everything.

You bring something to the relationship that only you can bring, and £1.50 for some toy soldiers isn't going to break the bank (unlike a VW gear box, I suspect!). Secondly, I think the track you should play first tonight is "For once in my Life" by Stevie Wonder. A freind of ours made a DVD of his twins after they were born, and played this, and the words really summed up how he felt about being a new dad.

Please stop using the blog for casting aspersions on others. A blog is an "in the moment" vehicle for commentary - not a vehicle for vilification and dragging up sulks or past bitterness. We all have hurts in our lives but these stay in our private zones for discussion with close confidantes and those who can help us with them. I am sure you have other outlets for your hurt and bitterness that are much better placed to help you. Please show the great side of you we all enjoy or you certainly will end up like Eleanor Rigby. I wouldn't enjoy that as I do like the wit you displayed in earlier blogs.

This is not connected to anything else here, sorry, but it amused me.
From Private Eye today, a passenger at Auckland airport had their nail scissors confiscated from hand luggage by security. On the plane, a smell of petrol was tracked to an overhead locker and found to be leaking from a CHAINSAW. Apparently security let it thru' as it wasn't on their list of restricted items.
How mad is that.

Sammie - I'm planning Mr Jumpy's birthday at the moment, but can't find the right combination of things for the partybags! We're going to an airshow for the most part of the day, but am having to go with a "cars" or spiderman theme for the party because there's just no planes! Ah well :) many mini water pistols will just have to do - I'm sure all the grown men will be 6 year-olds again in no time at all and won't mind that the party-bags have nothing to do with the actual day :)

I am slightly concerned that I have accidently fallen into the Moomin catergory, and have had my posts misconstrued. I do not post to get a reaction, but normally somebody will make a comment - yet I have had nada, nowt, nuffin re last night. Honestly I didn't mean to offend anybody - and I thought I was fairly level headed with my reasoning without resorting to personal insult - well, except a very subtle one to HFF - which was not moderated.....thems the breaks eh!
