BLOG THREE EIGHT tWo
Watched my first ever...
...River Cottage last night whilst in the airstream under the stars, mega. Glass of rose - again and salmon from the barbie. After dinner flipped over to Beeb 2 for the last third of Mary Whitehouse, now there was a real crazy.
Enzo, very slow prog but a total hero, there's still hope in those eyes. Two and a half months without a single step and he still wants to be around. Love that dog.
Today, in London it's hot and wet, the worst combo. And to meet me when I arrived ? The accountant AND the bank manager, well you only live once I told 'em. They kind of agreed, kind of, anyway they've gone now...for the time being. Ha ha. Love it. Truth be told they've both been brilliant, one of them even invited me and Tash to a big posh do !
Tomorrow, an early start, as off to the telly half of the corporation. What for ? Who knows ? Watch this space, I'll let you know, promise.
What would you like to see on telly anyhow ? Not what would you "not" like to see, that's easy but what would you "like" to see ?
Don't forget you get to choose the first record on ALL REQUEST tomorrow, so come on, dig deep and surprise us with a zinger.
Also, I have found a single piece of TFI memorabilia during the move. Who do I give it to ? I think we all know the answer don't we ?
CLP.
2008.

Well had a heck of a week so far! Having landed my first 'big studio manager job' in January I have now been told it may be moving down South or I might be loosing the job! Bad times! Its this imaginary recession that been forced upon us all! So from having the time of my life doing a 400 year old house up my gorg new hubby we have this bomb shell to contend with! I mean I aint a greedy so and so! I just want what I work for and I work for it dam hard! We both do!
So what do I do? move with the job for part of the week? Hardly the best situation for a newly wed to be in!
Oh and Chris you have no idea how me and the better ahlf envy the transporter thing! We are living with the out-laws at the moment! again... Bad Times!
Good times should be on there way though???

CLP - well done - you do care after all :-)
careful about what you say about accountants - some of us may be part of that venerable profession
I want to see more documentaries (like child of our time) or dramas (like that one with david Tennant having brain damage) and less reality TV with or without "stars"
for ARF - I like the travelling wilberrys but I would love a party tune to get me in the mood for saturday - nolans - I'm in the mood for dancing or sisscor siters - I don't feel like dancing

TV I'd like:
More dramas (inc the wonderful historical ones a really good saga that I could tune into each week like Cranford - forsyth saga)
A really good live music show with mixture of classical and popular music (no miming allowed).
I miss Noel's House Party - madness and a Variety show saturday/sunday night viewing.
The thing with the current Talent show shows that there are lots of really good variety acts out there which would would like to see more of without having to vote for your favourite etc etc.
Cheers

I would like to see a show called "Brian's Got Talent". All about the weird and wonderful jobs that people called Brian do. Or maybe weird and wonderful hobbies that people called Brian have.
Or the "Saucerer's Apprentice" which would be all about how some people (who think they all know better than everyone else and wear badly cut suits) learn pottery.
...and yes Phoenix, some more really good drama...
Anyhoo, is lobster akshully any good for sharpening your beak on then? Or just your wit? I shall purchase one on the way home just in case.

Can't wait to find out what the memorabilia is that Mr Chris has found for Gingembre. Hope your first day back went well too Gingembre.
I rather like reality TV. I really get bored to death with animal programmes. Which is why I would never go on a Safari. Ok so it's a heard of Elephants.... so what.
Not enough Music Programmes on TV really. So many talented people out there too.
Be nice to see a Juke Box Jury type of thing with semi professionals singing live. Called down the Pub with Chris Evans and friends.
Can anyone tell me if I join facebook can I be Marilyn Monroe, or do I have to have a real name?

Afternoon Christoff!!
Myself and the wee lass watched River Cottage too - try explaining to a 3 year old what he’s doing with the chickens and what offal is!! Och, but she takes it all in her stride - yer never too young to learn about the realities of life - which is why she comes with me to visit my Aunt in a secure hospital (she has Alzeihmers). Gone off fish just now, meself - must be the hormones! I always think it tastes better on a BBQ though!
Give Enzi a gentle hug from us all, the wee hero that he is! Sending prayers for speedy recovery. And talk about 2 birds with one stone, a bank manager and accountant … now that would scare the living daylights out of me!!
Looking forward to hearing about the telly side … waiting with baited breath, about time you were back on the box when you see some of the numpties we are subjected to!!!
Will have a wee think about ARF over making the dinner …. but, Christoff …. you really are an absolute star and sweetie-pie finding that piece of TFI memorabilia!!! Woo-hoo!!! A certain gent will be jumping (gently of course) for joy the night!!!

As for TV....the recent reality shows prove that there are so many talented people out there who have't been near drama school, signing...and lessons etc. They just haven't had the breaks, or don't move in the right circles. Wouldn't it be great to learn about more about some of these people without the hype and the humiliation?
Also there are Zillions of Visual Artists out there, many of whose work will will never be seen by other than a small circle. A semi -serious exploration of artists unknown and outside the mainstream might be a novelty (People could only take a half-hour of that tho>(Yeah you guessed it...I'm one of them).

Would be great to have some more decent dramas on, and educational madness like Why Don't You and How To and Eureka. Then some happy Saturday night shows which are just plain happy, not competitive or showy-offy, just daft and happy and full of good bands and ... well, think Drivetime but on telly. Hmm. That would be along the lines of TFI or DFYT or somesuch....

I don't really watch TV. To be honest, I only ever tune in to 'foody' type things. One thing that some may find odd is that I enjoy watching people cooking meat and fish really well but I've been veggie for 20 years. How do you explain that? Is it some kind of culinary porn? Maybe I was a carnivore in a past life?
I think that there is room for some kind of foodie-come-music-come-chat type thingy. You know, a sort of TF Fry Friday or Don't Forget Your Spatula.
I'm curious as to why this blog 'one-line-ism', or 'Bingoitis' as it is becoming known in techie circles, is spreading. I think I was the first afflicted, although I appear to be cured, so I feel kind of responsible. I don't know how I managed to shake it off, so if you are suffering, keep plugging away, it will go eventually. Yes, even you Bingo.
ARF? I'm normally all up for a rock tune, but this week I feel just the tiniest bit psychedelic. So toss in a modern twist, and we end up with

Helloooo out there (my first blog!)!
So been out for a warm, wet walk with other half and dog and we had a think about the question of what we'd like to see on TV. We came up with:
Firstly whatever it is - it should be entertaining (isn't that why we watch TV?), and to do that it doesn't always have to be interactive (ie voting, texting in etc) - just good quality so that the viewer becomes absorbed for the length of the programme.
As for what programme, well how about more of these:
science fact (Tomorrow's World);
science fiction for grown-ups but not fantasy (like Firefly);
stand-up comedy (Jack Dee's Live at the Apollo);
non-sensationalist documentaries on interesting/mind-expanding subjects (Equinox);
new stuff/new ideas rather than remakes (Life on Mars) and lastly.....
shows that are fun without assuming the viewers are stupid (like TFI)
Having mentioned TFI, I must tell you that cause we always had pizza at Uni when it was on, when I hear the music now I can always taste pizza - how Pavlovian is that?!
ARF - sticking with the theme - haven't heard Reef's 'Place your hands' for some time - that'd be a great start to the show....

I also think Reef and Place your hands would be a great tune to start a great weekend. My hubby is away on a 6 month tour with the army but my best friends will be arriving to 'take care of me with some bubbly stuff and love' at about 5pm, so would be a great start to the fun packed weekend of great food great bubbles and the best company!

{{AF}} good on ya nice to know the positive vibes from everyone on here has worked for you. Excellent news.
I watched the start of come dine with me just because I wanted to see the live advert for H....A which I'd heard about. Very different and interesting.
Then watched the start of Talent and went on to the season finale of Bones - Oh wow it was good indeed - I'm note going to say what happened in case you lot have recorded it. Can't wait for the next series though.
I've had no communication from two of the agencies another asked if I wanted to contract in Andover and commute from Dorset - er no thanks.
I will have two weeks left from tomorrow and starting to get a bit panicked cos I have nothing lined up and need to pay mortgage, tax, insurance etc etc.
Right that's enough self pity.... a phoenix always rises from the ashes so this one will do as well.
Wonder if Dorset police have need of an analyst??? anyone know how I find out?
I've sent my cv off to the SunS.....ker people and hope that someone reads the emails from their website.
Bingo keep on mate you are doing me the world of good reading your mad oneliners interspersed with the rest of the blogs makes them funnier.

But just reading an email from a mate in Washington at the mo. It's been Memorial day recently. It is the norm for all Vietnam vets to drive into town on their Harley's. The roar can be heard from quite a distance like thunder.

Sorry Beesmum didn't see the one liner that got you into trouble....
saw the lovely doggie piccys on FB though - very cute indeed and called Biggles - excellent name.
My cats are called Minki and Pickle - Minki is because when he was tiny he was very bad in the behaviour dept and I threatened to make a mink collar out of him (coloured chocolate)... pickle was originally registered as fingle (after that cave) irish mixture looking - but he got into so many fixes and trouble he was renamed pickle for the state he got into regularly!
Currently I have one on the dinning chair next to me and the other playing puma across the back of the sofa.... as soon as I move he will move - I say bed and he's beating me up the stairs. Which is where I should be right now.

I was 5 minutes from home last night when CLP said he was going to talk to a lady re exercises for abs in 5 minutes time - oh **** I thought I'm going to miss that - anyway I didn't cos the police closed the road and I ended up on a diversion that took me another 45 minutes to get home and I didn't mind a bit cos it meant I got to hear more of the show!
Well tried the plank this morning and it hurt - but will keep trying. My other half heard the show on his way home too and he insisted I showed him CLP's web site so that he could see how to do the plank too - all power to CLP and the team!

I have two sisters - a tabby and a tortiseshell and they are mad - they like to sleep on the rocking chair and slowly rock themselves to sleep - but occasionaly their proper beds are used so I don't want to get rid of them. Names of cats are willow and saffy and they are on fb - under catbook! out living room is one room from the front of the house to the back and we opened the front door yesterday but they ran to the back door which they can see from the front door and asked to be let out - daft things.

My cats have all been up North, I keep saying they're mine but they're my parents' cats really. This last one of theirs is a little black scrawny thing, very affectionate but sadly I managed to train her really badly when she was a kitten and so she doesn't really know how to show affection in a non-painful way! Dad doesn't think they'll get another cat when she's gone, he's so attached to her I think he'll be too upset to get a "replacement". Funny how attached you get to animals.

Beesmum - as AF said (thinking about you AF, today maybe tougher so hope your ARF gets chosen and you can dance away!) we get puppy tomorrow!! Thank you for lovely offer, already the blog showing kindness!
Went to one of those huge pet places the other night and bought load of stuff! But we had put a few of the bits at the cash desk as had too much to carry and when we picked up the furry rug things to put onto counter having left them beside it they were damp!!! So we reckoned another of the dogs that you're allowed to take into those kinda places had lifted its leg!!! Said to the girl and as she shrugged and said absoloutely nothing we just left them there as the woman behind us offered her hand wipes from her huge handbag as by this time we both thought we had another dog's p*** on our hands! Nice! Have not yet got the blankets! Maybe serendipity. did buy lots of other stuff....great fun!
Only one more sleep!!
SP - love cats too but other half doesn't and has taken me much persuasion to get Alfie! Cats have such a fabulous way of making you feel they are such in control of life...and you. Folks had cats and think the moggies decided how the house ran...
AF - latterly their old cat couldn't chew very well and the only thing he would eat was boiled chicken chopped into tiny pieces with no fat, skin etc!!!! Ruined.

my first ever post on the blog - shame that I can't get a fanfare but then I am 33 :)
What I would LOVE to see on TV is Celebrity Gladiator:
All celebrities - especially those whose careers are waining (this is for a reason peeps) are invited to take part - little do they know that this is not a case of gently being tapped by some strapping lad or lass with an oversized cotton bud, but with real gladiators - perhaps some desperados from San Quentin Jail who are promised freedom if they manage to kill off enough celebs.
Think of the ratings! We could even have a phone in to decide if it is thumbs up or thumbs down - provide the phone lines are open at the appropriate times and the company does not rip us off.
I'd watch it.

Cathmel, now all i've got in my head is "Red light spells danger....no no no." awesome tune, you beat me to it.
As for what i'd like to see on TV...hmmm must admit something along the lines of TFI, live music, fun guests and the genuine feel you're getting a sneaky peak at someones party and wishing you were there.
Looking forward to the weekend, Capt Young (the "poor man's Inspector Morse") is coming to visit tomorrow for beers and fodder, always good for a laugh.

Hi Jeni..perhaps I can help?
You will need :)
Some Golden Syrup about 2-3 tablespoons
Brown Sugar 70g
a noggin of butter about 80g
Oats of course 250g ish
Chocolate 200g bar dark chocolate - adjust to taste and for the licking clean of the bowl
Firstly gently melt the butter in a solid pan, throw in the sugar and syrup and using a wooden spoon mush into a lurvery paste, drop in the oats a little at a time until they are all in there. Once all of the oats are covered in the paste then spead evenly over a greased baking tray and then cook at about 220 deg C for 15 mins (oh pre-heat the oven). Then score the flappies into soldiers or however you want them and let them cool. I'd let them stand for a few hours but keep them away from flies and then cover them with melted dark choccy and you whip them into the fridge to cool quickly and hey presto :)
I will not be held responsible for the gaining of weight :)

Umming and ahhing about what to do this weekend - I normally head off somewhere but I have drawn a blank....living in the Reading area so if anyone has any suggestions of fun things to do they would be most appreciated - otherwise it is the wine and the dvd collection (unless it is sunny then i shall go out) - perhaps London...what is on in the smoke...oh I just don't know...this will never do ;)

Ohoooo the plank...just you all be careful! It's SO good for your core, but you need to make sure you do back strengthening exercises as well or else you may end up stooping!
There's a plank that you can do on your side too, but that requires at least 25 years sitting in the locust position under a banyan tree drinking weak geranium and agapanthus tea from a palm cup. Although my mate Wendy managed it, but she was a bit of a fanatic...
Anyhoo, apparently you can use honey instead of treacle/syrup? My Gran'ma used to put sultanas and chopped apple in too, and we'd have them warm with cream for pudding...oh YERSSSSS...this would be the flapjacks by the way...not a plank...
Although other things warm with cream might be nice for a Friday ahem. When available, obviously.
Gingembre, you watch those knees with all your jumping for joy else you'll end up in front of the s-u-r-g-e-o-n and wot with Renee's recent hospitalisationalisation malarkey, I'm all out of grape rations!

D'you know, I think I know what the plank is without going looking for it. I have suddenly been accosted with a memory. That HURT. I remember doing that at circuit training, me and my friend always seemed to leave that til last on whatever circuit we were on, never intentionally, but my word we felt that one. I had a personal trainer very briefly last year, he made me do that as well. For longer and longer each time. Sadist. Yep, I'd very little core strength and am regretting not working on it more now!!
Anyway. Soup is made and cooling, waiting for hubby to come home for lunch; flapjack recipe is sitting on the kitchen counter daring me to go on and make it; and my brother is filling the house with music - his beloved piano is in storage so when he saw mine his eyes lit up and he's been playing non-stop all morning! Afternoon gang! Firstly, my flapjack recipe:-
450g rolled oats
75g soft brown sugar
300g unsalted butter
150g golden syrup
sesame seeds (for sprnkling on top)
Method: mix oats with sugar. Melt butter and syrup gently in big pan, then stir in oats/sugar mix. Push into 23cm square well-buttered brownie tin and bake at 190 Degrees C for approx 25 - 30 minutes.
Diva variation: add in some crushed pecan nuts and 50/50 the golden syrup with maple syrup. Enjoy xxxxx
