Man Opening Umbrella Ahead

Post categories:

Fraser McAlpine | 12:54 UK time, Thursday, 17 April 2008

work_in_progress.gifJust a quick note to say sorry for any trouble you may be having with ChartBlog over the next day or so. We've had the menders in, you see.

The main thing you'll notice is that you won't be able to comment on any old posts, only the ones which are being created from now on.

This is not simply a measure designed to infuriate fans of McFly or Elliot Minor (although if there are any comments people wish to make about old ChartBlog posts, this seems as good a place to do it as any).

You'll also need to register if you wish to post a comment. It's part of the BBC Blog Team's united effort to defeat The Evil Spam Hordes.

Trust me, the good times lie ahead!

Thank you for your patience...

Fraser

Tis not! Registering for this took the longest time. *tsk*
    It wasn't that bad.

Can I ask about someone called Ali's post on the Elliot Minor blog? It was listed at the side but never showed up... a bit of me hopes it was keyboarder Ali that Hazel liked. :-)

Oh yes, it's disappeared, hasn't it?

From what I remember it was another one calling Hazel a series of rude names, not from anyone in the band, sadly.

I did wonder about that comment at about 5am last night. Not that I sit about looking at comments on things I've written when I'm meant to be working, obviously...

I am alarmed a the number of people who seemed to have raced in to register with variations of my actual name.

Well don't worry too much. This registration applies to all BBC blogs, so it's not just ChartBloggers who're racing to register.

How slick! And I thought it was just my geriatric computer having a whinge when it took so long just to post a message.

Anywho, re the Hoosiers review, you know I didn't realise it 'til it was pointed out on here that Cops and Robbers sounds just like Lovecats; just shows how much on the ball I am most of the time!

Doesn't matter a jot to me tho, IMO it's the best track on the album; and anyway Oasis have built an entire career plagiarising another certain Northern group's work.

Same goes for Wolfmother who so obviously Led Zeppelin orientated, and Kasabian who are what Stone Roses would have been like if they had made more than just one good album. They're still great bands tho (well, apart from Oasis, that is, they're just awful)

It's odd though, cos Kat often calls things shiny, meaning good, so I thought you might be her. Thankfully you signed your comment!

That is a bit odd, I've never heard the word shiney used like that before, probably some colourful local colloquialism, although I am rather fond of pretty, shiney things, lol, don't know what that says about me, though!

I call my sister magpie 'cause she steals all my sparkly shiny stuff lol.

    So jetlagged right now.

I can't even remember the password I just put in =/ Luckily I clicked remember so it probably doesn't matter :P

The BBC wouldn't let me keep my squiggly bits for my registration name... *fume*

Without meaning to suggest you're a bit behind the times...

It's actually a relatively old joke. Most notable on the 1970s Vivian Stanshall album 'Men Opening Umbrellas Ahead', but I don't know if he came up with it first or not.

After I'd said this, I was then debating with myself - have I really not heard or seen that before - I may have just forgotten. And then I thought I remembered my Dad saying it years ago... but I may be making that up...

And now I find it's a blimmin' album title as well...

Now here's a thing: has anyone else noticed you can make smiley faces with punctuation marks? ;-)
