In the Night Garden characters in a line

CBeebies is changing the 'Bedtime Hour' for the New Year. We understand that this time can be an important part of a family’s evening routine, so we're letting you know what's going to happen and when it's going to happen.

From Monday 9th January there will be a new line up to the 'Bedtime Hour'.

From 6.00pm will be brand new versions of Waybuloo narrated by Dave Lamb and this will be followed by Driver Dan's Story Train to add programmes that appeal to all ages at bedtime.

The ever popular In The Night Garden and the Bedtime Story will round off the day to prepare Cbeebies viewers for bedtime.

We make changes gradually to bedtime because we know this can be disruptive to some viewers and always try  to provide something for every viewer.

my son loves driver dan but he loves abney(sp) and teal more and i think that would fit in better with waybuloo and itng. it's more relaxing and my son sits glued to it everyday. driver dan gets him up and about and interacting with the story which is good but i would rather he calm down ready for his bath at 6:50. is waybuloo been shortened then as i don't see how it would all fit in?

  • Comment number 2.

Thanks for the warning and understanding that this needs to be gradual. It's such an important part of my wind down before bath time. I live in fear of losing Waybuloo! I agree with the previous comment that Abney and Teal is more suitable as a bedtime programme - my daughter also loves this and finds it much more relaxing than driver dan.

  • Comment number 3.

I'm very pleased the bedtime hour is altering slightly. We use it to wind down at bedtime but I've felt its been getting a little bit stale. We love Driver Dan! We have found that as long as our son hears the bedtime song at the end of cbeebies he goes down wonderfully (if we aren't home we have to still sing it to him lol)

I understand that fom time to time you have to change the mix up but I have just watched the new line up and I am appalled at what has happened to Waybuloo. It is not now a gentle wind down programme but now has a jokey naration that is not needed at all and also talks over the most gentlest parts of the yogi and the end music. WHY?? Driver dan then is noisy and much more suitable for earlier both programmes I feel are not calming at all. Then In the Night Garden follows which is much more suited to the younger ones, which maybe already getting ready for bed. Perhaps In the Night Garden first then the others next time.

  • Comment number 5.

Hi, we always use bedtime hour to help get our 1 year old ready for bed, and were somewhat shocked by the changes to Waybuloo today.

Driver Dan's great but I really don't feel that a chunk of Waybuloo should have been sacrificed for it as this was a fantastically gentle way to quiet everything down. Now, it's full of a pointless narration which adds nothing except distraction and talks over most of calming music & yogo segments. Completely defeats the point.

We're just glad that we have many previous eposides recorded - we'll be reusing those rather than watch any of the new ones if the narration continues. Please, please get rid of it. It adds nothing and ruins a once wonderfully calming asset of the Bedtime Hour.

yes our two boys (2.5 and 4) have between them sorted a new bath / bedtime routine after last nights changes. So with the help of the CB's iplayer the plan is... after tea Mr Bloom, then Abney &Teal, then Baby Jake, bedtime snack break, ending with ITNG on the TV "for sam" (2.5) and the bedtime story for Josh. lets see how it goes :)

  • Comment number 7.

Well done Cbeebs! For listening and changing. Waybuloo back to normal and my whole family were literally rejoicing. Thank you.

  • Comment number 8.

Absolutely delighted you have returned Waybuloo to its original format as the "new" version was awful but please can someone at Cbeebies let us know what has happened to Driver Dan? When will it be broadcast as its one of my 2yr old daughter's favourite programmes. Just done a search of the tv schedule for the week ahead and cannot find it anywhere. Thanks

  • Comment number 9.

Please can we have confirmation that Waybuloo is back to its original format??? Such a relief today after yesterday's fiasco - whoever thought Dave Lamb's sarcastic narration (great for Come Dine with Me, but not this) was a great idea. Waybuloo is perfect as it is and should be left alone.

I can't believe the change back to the bedtime hour!!! Waybaloo Monday was light hearted, my 11 month old could not stop laughing as for my partner he thoroughly enjoyed it too. It was a lovely way to start the bedtime hour a great programme for the little ones with a bit of adult humour (as we all know the bedtime routine can be hard work at times) then Driver Dan to start the relax and unwind, followed by In the Night Garden. What a shame it has changed backed, maybe one day it will go back

  • Comment number 11.

I speak for my whole family when I say I am so pleased that the bedtime hour is back to it's original format. I was not keen on the new version and I think the narating over Waybuloo completely ruined the programme. Thank you cbeebies!!! xXx

  • Comment number 12.

If the new bedtime hour is changing gradually, does that mean the appalling waybuloo with the awful voice over from dave lamb will be returning, will be switching off if so, absolutely awful, unnecessary wittering from him, which is completely out of context with the programme and the fact this is supposed to be the "bedtime" hour.

  • Comment number 13.

I whole heartedly agree with lots of these comments. The new Waybuloo format is terrible; my son loves Waybuloo and when he was very ill last year it was one of the only things he resonded to. He likes in particular to hear the voices of children and the characters (who also sounds like children). What he doesn't want to hear is a male adult's voice rambling on over the top! He showed his objection by becoming disinterested half way through. This change is a terrible idea, Waybuloo should be a lovely wind down programme. Please go back to the beloved old format! In addition 'Driver Dan' is ok, but Abney and Teal is much more in keeping with a bedtime vide. Steph [Personal details removed by Moderator]

Can we have the previous version of the goodnight song back? It used to be so gentle and in-keeping with the winding-down nature of the bedtime hour. The change to the jazzed-up and up-tempo version in the autumn ruins this and I've had to switch-off before it starts as it 'winds-up' my son just before bedtime. The quality of ther singing was much better too and my son insisted that we all sung it together so we miss it.

  • Comment number 15.

Can't we have a break from Waybuloo ? I would welcome the Teletubbies in the bedtime hour or something ever so slightly educational. How will little ones learn to talk when they see and hear characters who don't speak properly. (NB Teletubbies had a voice over)
Some shorter programmes too so we can squeeze in classics like Ivor The Engine, Bagpuss, Flumps, Paddington Bear etc

  • Comment number 16.

My 4 year old loved the new waybaloo. He hadn't been bothered about the normal waybaloo for some time but this new narrated, shorter version really appealed to him. I do understand what others have commented about - that it may not suit the bedtime hour, but could it be aired at another time in the day? Waybaloo is on at other times in the day, maybe it could replace a daytime slot, I know it's shorter but there are lots of other short programmes that could go along side it. We all thought that it refreshed the programme which had been getting a bit tired for us.

  • Comment number 17.

My son loves the new song that advertises the bedtime hour! Does anyone know who sings it or where to get it or are the BBC going to publish it? It reminds him of some of the old songs his grandad and grandma play as the theme very similar. I anyone hasn't heard it look out for it, lyrics say about putting toys away after a good day time to rest sleepy head etc. Really lovely and want to get hold of it as that son alone settles him for bed.

  • Comment number 18.

Whilst understanding the need for change, it is very disappointing that CBeebies are yet again changing the format, which will cause some degree of consternation. Waybuloo and In the Night Garden are a very balanced, soothing mix of programming at what is for most parents a "wind down time". My little nine month old does not watch any TV apart from Waybuloo and ITNG but he adores this time and on his behalf (as he has not quite yet mastered emails) we are very disappointed that this established part of his routine (and Daddy's) is changing... It would be nice to have some explanation as to why Waybuloo is yet again being changed. It seems the programme controllers are set to do this against what appears to be the "popular view"....

  • Comment number 19.

I think its a joke that the bedtime hour has been changed again. The mix was perfect last year when it was, 64 zoo lane, driver Dan and ITNG. My 2 year old turns the TV off when waybaloo comes on as it scares her. I also think that putting Charlie and lola in the bedtime hour is confusing. Please please please bring back the old old bedtime hour

  • Comment number 20.

Please - what has happened to the Goodbye Sun song? It was was my daughters cue that it was nearing the end of the day, so now I'm struggling convincing her it's nearly bedtime! I don't like the schedule change, but can live with it - but please BRING BACK THE SONG!!!!
