Next week's themes...

Bryan Burnett | 19:23 UK time, Thursday, 8 October 2009

marie.jpgFrom singing siblings to Careless Memories it promises to be another interesting week on the show. From this week I'll be announcing the themes in an online video which you can watch on the Get It On homepage.
We'll film a new one every Thursday and get them up online in time for the weekend. "You'll need to remember to smarten yourself up on a Thursday then", said one of our online team. Ha! Was she hinting that my usual Mon-Wed attire is not up to scratch? I must admit that when I see my colleagues in TV strolling around the building in their smart shirts and shiny shoes, I am grateful that I can come into the studio in my crumpled jeans and t shirt and not have to worry. Apart from a Thursday that is.

As always I am keen to get as wide a mix as possible for the themes. Whether it's edgy and alternative or straight down the middle of the road, we'll always try and find a space for it on the show. After all we did play Kenneth McKellar and Biffy Clyro on the same show last week.

Monday

Clearly we won't want to miss Marie Osmond's 50th birthday so I thought we would feature singing siblings for tonight's show. It's brothers and sisters who both share a talent like Kylie and Danni, Ray and Dave, Craig and Charlie, Don and Phil....and if you MUST Matt and Luke...

Tuesday

Martin in Dunfermline suggests songs that feature words your kids don't like. So that's anything featuring fab, groovy or waay out! But I thought we might expand the theme and feature bands that make your kids ashamed to know you! And kids - do get in touch and tell us about the items in your mum and dad's CD collection that make you totally embarrassed?

Wednesday

Scotch Git suggests 'memory and recollection' as a theme tonight. So that could Johnny Remember Me, Carless memories, or Too Good to be forgotten. Don't forget to get in touch with your suggestions...

Thursday

Would it have been Elvis in Vegas, The Smiths at the Caird Hall or Spandau Ballet at the Blitz club. What are the best gigs you never got to. The theme has been suggested by Gaie Brown on our Facebook page. Tickets on sale Thursday night at ten past six...

    Happy Birthday, Marie!

Tuesday, October 20th will be the 32nd anniversary of the plane crash in Mississippi in which the two pilots and four of the passengers, Dean Kilpatrick, Ronnie Van Zant and siblings Steve & Cassie Gaines lost their lives.
For this evening I'd like to request a song written by lead guitarist Steve Gaines. His sister Cassie was one of the female backing singers.

I'm talking about the 'making' of a pop record - that particular track has everything you could wish to be absolutely perfect in it from the production through to the instrument voicing, song structure and even the video (championed by none other than George Martin). Yes there are other Bee Gees songs that are better, but none that have the complete recording and production package.

Two gigs stand out for me that I coulda/woulda/shoulda gone to:

The last time that the Wall had been performed was in 1981 in London, before I had been educated in the ways of The Floyd, and certainly before I was old enough to be allowed to go to London for gigs. But unfortunately, in July 1990, I was in the US, working on a kids' camp in Connecticut, so missed this one too.

The chances of there ever being another opportunity are pretty slim, so can we please have something from the live album recorded at the show?
    * Bryan Adams - Young Lust or
    * Roger Waters - The Tide is Turning
    would do the trick nicely.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
    Hampden Park; 14th July 2009
I'd planned to go and meet up with a whole bunch of the GiO blogging crew (hi guys!), and even had a late pass from Mrs Ramius to stay over in Glasgow, but work intervened, and I had to do other things that evening.

Gigs at the University always started late, sometimes after midnight. We had a few jars and made our way up at the back of eleven maybe hoping to catch one of the support acts.

Walking into Level 8, we were greeted with the very last ten seconds of My Baby Does Good Sculptures and a shrill "good night Glasgow" from Fay Fife.

I may have been at that gig. Saw so many gigs at Strathclyde between 79 and 83 although not always in a sober enough state to recall all the details. Most memorable was Nine Below Zero and an ill fated Squeeze gig (for all the wrong reasons). One I regret not seeing was the Police and Blondie on the same bill. Can't remember who supported who but it was a couple of years before I went to drink at that particular fountain of knowledge but was the stuff of legend by the time I did as they had become two of the biggest bands in on the planet within a couple of years.

Yours was an entertaining story Scotch but let's face you're never ever goin to get even one Tull song played. Good show though but surely given the theme we could have had more live tracks from the artists in question.

Hey Bloggers! You may have noticed we've got a problem with the playlists online this week - frustrating I know, and we are working on fixing it. Hopefully all sorted soon as for you.
Meanwhile....for those wanting to see pics of the team - there's photos of the whole team over on the facebook page - just go to facebook and search for Get It On with Bryan Burnett.
Thanks for the suggestions this week - and we look forward to your ideas for our new batch of themes. Have a good weekend.

Thanks MissB! (Although I'm sure there's more than just us bloggers who like to see the tracklists)

Annoyingly, as I was driving home last night waiting for the news to end & GiO to start, I had to take a call (handsfree); as it finished, I heard what sounded like the last 30 seconds of Atmosphere, but before I could check, the phone went *again*, and that call continued until 20mins after I got home. :-(

Yes you did hear Atmosphere - we're struggling with the playlists ...there must be some bug in the system - really sorry we've put them in but they aren't displaying. I fear it will be other side of the weekend before it's fixed.
It's just not on is it......people phone you or come to the door when GiO is on air. Don't they know?????
