Next week's themes...

Bryan Burnett | 08:29 UK time, Friday, 2 October 2009

whatmakesyousmile626x260a.jpg

Thanks again for another busy week on the show. In particular thanks to all the new people who have joined up to our Facebook page. It seems we have built up a real community of music lovers. If you haven't visited yet then don't be shy - and of course it would be great to get your suggestions along with the ones already up there.
I hope you enjoy this week's themes and if you've got a theme we've never done then get on the email and let me know...

Monday
As BBC Radio Scotland kicks off a season on our relationship with alcohol, we'll be asking you to come up with an exciting alcohol free musical cocktail. Take a couple of unusual ingredients like Rob Thomas and Santana and combine them in an irresistible musical mix. Into that cocktail could go Prince and Sheena Easton...or maybe Debbie harry and Iggy pop? ( Ok it's a duets show but work with me here!)

Tuesday
After last week's songs for your ex, the life long lovers get their turn in the spotlight as the theme is everlasting love. I'll say forever my love? Endless Love or perhaps Forever and Ever? You decide...

Wednesday
Richard Wilson and Raymie in Consett have both suggested unusual words in songs as tonight's theme. Haversack is not a word you find in many hit records but somehow The Pet Shop Boys managed. And then there 's Faith Hill's amazing grasp of Newtonian mechanics when she sings quite convincingly about centrifugal motion. Get out the dictionary and start looking up pop's most unusual words...

Thursday

As part of the BBC's Headroom campaign, it's two hours of stress busting music as chosen by you. The songs that make you smile is tonight's theme. From comedy classics to out and out cheeriness, just don't worry, be happy and tune in tonight for the show guaranteed not to give you the blues...

Now here's a bizarre one and a word I've never heard in my life. Is it real? Sacroiliac on Rapture by Blondie. I'll bet you a fiver though it's appeared somewhere else. Sacroiliac is probably the 3rd most used word America or something.

Also. Cities in Dust by Siouxsie and the Banshees. The word nostrils turns up in this one. Is there another song that uses the word nostrils? I doubt it.

I like a snappy, witty lyric and this one is sung in such an easy style that it's perfect to lift a mood...'Don't Forget To say "No" Baby' sung by Hoagy Carmichael - it's a "be faithful" message to a soldier's girlfriend..."While I'm out to train, don't you entertain, remember you're not the USO..." . Really good piano on it.

Keeping in a jazz vein...and I know you can find this one cos Stephen Duffy's played it before...'I'm Hip' by Blossom Dearie is another witty, snappy one...even her name makes me smile.

A pity you've not yet managed to play any of the Jake Thackray songs SG has suggested - the one he mentioned for Tuesday...'La-Di-Dah' is an unusual love song with irreverent, witty lyrics. If you can see past phrases like 'scabby cat' it's really very touching.

If all else fails, play 'It's In His Kiss' by Linda lewis. Know i've had it played before but hearing it is a failsafe way of lifting a bad mood.
