Next week's themes...

Bryan Burnett | 10:26 UK time, Friday, 30 October 2009

themesvid.jpgA big welcome to all the 'first timers who got in touch for Thursday's show. It really was a refreshing show. Saying that, we did miss the 'regulars' so looking forward to getting your emails and blog posts for this week's themes. Monday's theme is courtesy of one of our most prolific contributors so make sure you get behind his theme.
The latest video featuring details of the week's themes is now up on the Get It On homepage...

Monday
Will you go for an Ellis Bextor or perhaps a Cougar Mellencamp? It's double barreled names to kick off the week. Scotch Git suggests this as a theme and with possible tracks from everyone from Mary Chapin Carpenter to Jerry Lee Lewis it's going to be a good show...

Tuesday
At last year's Soundtown, Alva Academy, we ran a session where some of the pupils came up with ideas for Get It On themes. Amy suggested a theme of songs that had to be three minutes or under. Some say it's the perfect length for a pop song. If you agree then lets have your suggestions, but a word of warning -  I will have my stopwatch standing by...

Wednesday
Accapella breakdowns is the theme for Wednesday. That bit on the middle of Somebody To Love, Sweet Dreams, or maybe Girls and Boys by Blur. Start thinking of the bits where the music stops and the spotlight is on the singing...

Thursday
Finally - it's bonfire night tonight so lets have your appropriate songs featuring fireworks, bonfires and the like. Rocket man, Boom Bang A Bang and definitely something by Guy Mitchell...

I quickly hauled out the anchor chain and threw the hook over the side, managing to halt Capella in her tracks before she could hit the wall.

In 1945 Woody Guthrie penned the lyrics to 'Gonna Get Through This World'

In 2006 the song was included on an album titled 'Wonder Wheel'

In 2007 the Klezmatics performed the song at Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket, on Sunday, February 4th, the final night of the Celtic Connections festival. It was a great gig.

The wonderful Irish colleen Susan McKeown is the lead vocalist on the song.

(Every Jewish band should have a Celtic lady singer. K.T. Tunstall proved it with Oi Va Voi.)

Gonna Get Through This World - The Klezmatics

"Woody Guthrie wrote over 3000 lyrics in his lifetime, most of which he never recorded. The Klezmatics offer up 12 of these previously unknown songs, creating a wondrous wheel of new music that places them in today's musical soundtrack. Just as he would have wanted."

    Norrie,

What we need are more caption competitions. In September 2008 there were 15 topics on the blog. In October 2008 there were 20.

Compare this to 14 for September and October 2009 combined.

Bryan, Babs, make the blog fun again!

    please?
