Best disco in town...
After a week off the show it's something of a bit of a shock to come back into the office to find that one of the most asked for tunes tonight is Kelly Marie's Feels Like I'm In Love. I guess for a lot of us it is a bit of a guilty pleasure and I suppose it was Scotland's contribution to the world of disco. But Paisley's own Kelly Marie more popular than the queen of disco, Donna Summer???It seems so. Elsewhere on the blog some of the regulars have posted links to F.L.I.I.L. being performed on TOTP. It's hilarious. Also worth a look is Paolopablo's link to the clip of Boystown Gang performing Can't Take My Eyes Off You. I had to switch it off halfway through as it got way too embarrassing. It's a shame that two guys with handlebar moustaches can reduce a genius cover version to a retro cheese-fest that's painful to watch!

"Keith Richards said "...Miss You was a damn good disco record, it was calculated to be one." In any case, what was going on in discos did make it to the recording. Charlie Watts said that "A lot of those songs like Miss You on Some Girls... were heavily influenced by going to the discos. You can hear it in a lot of those four-to-the-floor and the Philadelphia-style drumming." For the bass part Bill Wyman started from Billy Preston's bass guitar on the song demo.[1]. Chris Kimsey, who engineered the recording of the song, said Wyman went "...to quite a few clubs before he got that bass line sorted out.", which Kimsey said "made that song."

SG I think they were in meltdown towards the end of saturdays show and only just squeezed in the great Danny Wilson track - appreciated by me if no one else, so thanks BB.
