Army Dreamers...

Bryan Burnett | 17:37 UK time, Saturday, 27 June 2009

veterans1.jpgToday was Armed Forces day which was a chance for people around the country to show their support for the men and women who make up the armed forces. I was asked to be the MC in the entertainment tent at Glasgow's event which was hosted by the Lord Provost and attended by the Scottish Secretary and many other dignitaries. However, the real VIPs were the hundreds of veterans who attended the event and gave us the chance to show our gratitude for the sacrifices they made in conflicts over the years. I was particularly pleased to meet the women of the Auxillary Territorial Service (ATS) which was the women's service in the British Army during the Second World War. It was great to sit and chat and hear about the experiences of these amazing women and what they did in the war. Susan Sinclair (that's her in the picture below) told me about her War which involved spending five weeks on a boat sailing to Egypt where she was stationed at El Alamein, working in a PoW camp. I really did consider it an honour to get to hear their stories. veterans2.jpg

Now there is a group of people worthy of a show. Get a theme based round the heroes and veterans of our armed forces!

Agreed Norrie. Maybe Babs won't allow weapons, but surely she will allow the folk who make up the forces to have a theme!

You only know homophones when they're written down.

    Glen,

He can't control his competitive nature. It'll be the homographic next, mark my words.

Actually, I thought the words I posted in the removed blog were in the lyrics! I had to google the song to find out that this was wrong.

The list of some 38 tunes I submitted to Babs on the "weaponry" theme were almost all non violent - many even condeming violence. I cant see why Babs is so against the idea of it as a theme.....or is it just that she still hates me?

I endorse you & Norrie in suggesting a military theme in honour of those to whom we are so indebted

Bob, Babs doesn't listen to me either! See the way she dismissed "Run" as a TV theme tune (Sportscene) tonight with a curl of her lip and nasal "Pink Floyd"?

Nae chance on this one pal. Babs roolz it seems!

If Bryan was a REAL man, he'd stand up for us guys by putting his fit doon, but I think he seems a Paw Broon sort of guy and is faerd of Babs...
