Let's start at the very beginning...

queen.jpgWhen is an intro not an intro? Ask the Get It On audience as there were plenty opinions aired last night. According to the dictionary definition an intro establishes the melody and rhythm of a song and is related to the main body of the piece.
"Introductions may be an ostinato that is used in the following music, an important chord or progression that establishes the tonality and groove for the following music, important but disguised or out of context motivic or thematic material.As such the introduction may be the first statement of primary or other important material, may be related to but different from the primary or other important material, or may bear little relation to any other material" says Wikipedia.
That's cleared that up then. We were in murky waters last night with some of our choices - Fat Bottomed Girls is a good example. "It does have an intro", someone pointed out last night. "It just happens to have vocals on it!"
I suppose the " Oh, who's gonna take you home tonight..." section would qualify as the intro, with the song not actually starting until Freddie starts singing about being a skinny laddie.
Tonight's theme of 'emotions' should be less controversial, but just in case:
An emotion is a mental and physiological state associated with a wide variety of feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. It is a prime determinant of the sense of subjective well-being and appears to play a central role in many human activities.

    I hear what everyone is saying about intros or no intro. I struggled to think of any song without an intro until I took the definition of the first thing heard is a vocal. Even if the no intro theme is not going to happen again then the Vocal First would be a goer surely.

    The shows have been great this week, my daughter KirstyFromStonehaven were in the car on Monday on our way to buy cards and presents for her Mum's, my wife's Fiona's birthday today, when we heard her first mention. Brilliant moment, thanks. Happy Birthday Fiona.

    Is it too late to suggest Happy Talk from either Captain Sensible or from the South Pacific LP that everyone's Mum and Dad seemed to possess when I was a kid.

    My final suggestion is a track which Bryan almost played a few weeks ago but I think ran out of time

    Van Morrison - Till I Gain Control Again, the Rodney Crowell song which Van really does justice to, I think it is a great version of a great song.

    Gilbert Becaud - "A Little Love and Understanding". My late father loved this record and it reminds me of Sunday lunchtimes, after Church and before Granny-visiting...he would play this over and over again and would always chuckle at the bits where Gilbert chuckles...which makes me chuckle to think of it. The words are pretty apt for the first part of Monday's show. Did you know?...Gilbert Becaud wrote the original French versions of "Let it be Me" and "What Now My Love" and he co-wrote "Love on the Rocks".

    Another good reason to play this song is to give Bryan the chance to indulge his well loved hobby of pronounciation of foreign names.

Currently I am liking Frightened Rabbit and Glasvegas which I recently discovered, but will they make the second album etc.

    NB Gutted that Bryan played Promised Land and I missed it. Note that it does start with music, but that's no intro, that's straight into the meat! And he also played Ted Hawkins and I missed that as well.

    NB THis blogging is getting quite addictive.

    I would not argue that with you over Coldplay or the any of others for that matter, AFR is spot on re Craig and Charlie Reid also.

    There is an indispensable core of artistes that do get a regular airing... I cannot help but suspect this is solely to keep in with the moral majority... so much, for the G.I.O. ethos. I believe it to be more prevalent when Barbara is on the show... Sorry Barbara but Mandi does seem to grant a wider spectrum and no, I am not asking for the Barry Gary Orchestra & the Captain Scarlet Theme...

    Maybe a wee blast of E.C. is called for in the near future...
