Is Rob a “good bloke” or “well dodgy”? Has Kathy brought her work problems on herself? Listeners offer their opinions.

Plus there’s praise for Oliver and Amside’s new PA, Anthea. Over in Ambridge Extra, listeners wonder if Matt dicing with death…

And there’s a welcome and plenty of storyline suggestions for incoming Archers Editor, Sean O’Connor.

Here’s my pick of online discussions between 1 and 7 August 2013

Listeners have yet to make their mind up about Rob Titchener. Is he a “good bloke” or “well dodgy”?  Whoever he turns out to be, listeners are looking forward to Pat and Tony’s reaction to his affair with Helen

Rob seems like a good bloke, Tony and Pat are mighty protective of their clan. Classic line "sticking his nose in the family business!".  (Neil Powell on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Great episode! Still laughing here.... (Sue Gedge on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

@BBCTherchers trying to get to grip with the fact - I am beginning to like Rob. #againstallodds (@helenmawalker on Twitter)

Rob's now on the bad side of Tony and Pat. This will be FUN. (@thisannkarin on Twitter)

He's well dodgy Helen should keep well away. Anyone who cheats once can do it again, she and henry deserve better (Dawn Roe on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

I fear Rob may soon be twirling his moustaches and saying:"Moohaha" in a soft and sinister voice. Actually I have no great problem with him but his weird desire to be liked by absolutely everyone in the village, especially the Tainted Brand crew, is a bit suspicious. And I do wish he wouldn't encourage the Lord of the Ready Meals. (Vivian Oldaker on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Over at the Golf Club, Martyn Gibson is getting on almost everyone’s wick. But has Kathy brought some of this on herself? Or is this all leading up to a romance? Some think so…

Wasn't Kathy an attractive sympathetic personality a few decades ago? Where did it all go wrong? Was it all Sid's fault? (Chris Kondic on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Probably Kenton's fault! (Chris Vickery on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

No Jolene ! She knicked two of Kathy's men. (Susan Brennan on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Kathy needs to develop a backbone. She was a painful mother with Jamie, school and exams, and is being a terrible wimp with Martyn. (George Taylor on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Martin's doing his job, although he's about as obnoxious as it's possible to be. His comment about Kathy's ability to make the film night a success was spot-on. She needs to do more to promote the venue. (Gary Herring on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Eugh, that man is vile, and clearly milking his tab for all it's worth. Poor Kathy! #TheArchers (@AliDeane80n on Twitter)

Believe me, this Martyn fella is a psychopath. We have all met them haven't we. #PowerTrippers #TheArchers (@Airscaper on Twitter)

My mind has had another of those over active mornings - I have a suspicion that Cathy & Martin will become an item (Tom Allsopp on Archers Addicts Facebook page)

Oliver gets a lot of sympathy this week as Caroline seems fixated on Grey Gables. But never mind, Oliver, quite a few listeners would be happy to join you on holiday instead!

@BBCTheArchers. Oliver take me, take me ! She who hesitates etc.  !  I am getting suitcase off top of wardrobe! (@divapsych on Twitter)

#TheArchers How lovely and caring is Oliver? and what a gorgeous voice. *sighs wistfully* (@MsAlliance on Twitter)

#TheArchers 3 weeks away on holiday and Caroline has to think about it? Oliver, you need a divorce lawyer; not a holiday (@maryinbalham on Twitter)

Ugh, Caroline's endlessly narcissistic neediness and Oliver's patience with it are really getting to me! Get an identity outside of your work, woman!  (Robin Winning on BBC The Archers Facebok page)

Caroline sounds like a very poor manager to me. The hotel will be better off when she is on holiday. (Keith Rawlings on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Anthea’s special powers have won many over and most hope she’ll be staying at Amside

Anthea is able to do something that Brenda could never do! Make Lillian work!  (Carol Lynne Smith on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

Anthea’s a MACHINE! (@psalotti on Twitter)

@BBCTheArchers Anthea is an inspirational character. Keep her on !! (@Mr_Chas on Twitter)

I hope temp Anthea becomes permanent on @BBCTheArchers. (@Xanthippie on Twitter)

You sure you are missing Brenda, Lilian? You have to admit this irritating woman does a lot more than she ever did. #TheArchers (@AndromP on Twitter

Over in Ambridge Extra, Dmitry is perplexing many. What is he up to? And is Matt going to come a cropper? Ambridge Extra has elicited a real marmite response with some loving the storylines and others thinking it’s “strange”…

Was that Matt crying? Why does Brenda fully trust Dimitri? All too weird. (Christine Wilson on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

He’s like a nut hard outside soft inside (Di Gunstone on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

I think he is terrified of going back to Lillian with nothing left. (Jane Wilson on Archers Addicts Facebook group)

#AmbridgeExtra Dimitri will get Matt to " sleep with the fishes"- dark plots loom... (@Asif7860 on Twitter)

Suspension of disbelief sorely tested  #AmbridgeExtra (@FurnessGirl on Twitter)

This Russian storyline on Ambridge Extra is the strangest thing ever! (@elliwgwawr on Twitter)

Dmitri knows an awful lot, doesn't he? #AmbridgeExtra  (@violacat1 on Twitter

I've completely fallen in love with dashing Dmitry from Ambridge Extra. #thearchers (@Gary_Gillatt on Twitter)

I am finding it unbelievable but compelling, and a good listen! (Karen Killick on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

@BBCTheArchers Sooooooo exciting! Had to dry my hair with headphones in so I could still listen! #AmbridgeExtra  (@SallyKershaw on Twitter)

And finally, the announcement that Sean O’Connor is to be the new Editor of The Archers had many offering suggestions for future storylines…

@BBCTheArchers huge welcome to Sean. (@RobertHarper on Twitter)

Many congratulations to Sean; he sounds just the right person for the job, someone who really knows how drama works. (Nemo399 on The Archers blog)

Welcome to Mr O'Connor. I hope he has a long and happy time with my favourite programme. I look forward to seeing how he shapes the contemporary drama. (RosieT on The Archers blog)

The Archers need to go back to what it was, and forget about trying to target their audience at the 20 somethings. It just won’t work. (mousenmerlin on The Archers blog)

More farming please. (Joey Moore on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

How about this for a story, Brian to grow test tube beef at home farm and sell the herd? (David Earle on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Can we have some more people 'deaded'please? I've got a list (Elliot William James on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Don't kill anyone! (Sandra Greenhow on BBC The Archers Facebook page)

Congratulations to Sean O'Connor on getting one of the best jobs going anywhere… you do can please everyone and whatever you do will provoke criticism. So you're best off ploughing your own furrow (look, this is TA, but don't take it as a hint to bring back Bert) and not angst about us lot. (cath on The Archers blog)
