On 2 January, our sister station Radio 7 featured a series of classic Archers episodes, interspersed with interviews by cast members, with Radio 7's Ben Motley.

If you missed the interviews, here is a selection. They give a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into the working lives of Archers actors.

I love Alison & Richards interview... If Only Vanessa would listen to it she may understand what she has done that is so hideously wrong.

Sorry Keri, but insight says exactly how so many of feel.

Oh goodness, what a strange blip in the computer I had - when I'd listened to the interview, instead of going back to the start, it tried to link me to listening to the two most recent episodes!

    Hahahaaa Nice try!

All good stuff, but from the siblings in particular.... Well, in their own words (and apologies for any typos):-

Ben Motley: "What's the lasting appeal of TA? Why are we still here talking about it 60 years after it started?"

RA/Kenton : "Big question. I suppose people like to listen to the details .... and why this one has survived so long - maybe because it has that little bit more time to breathe .... There doesn't always have to be drama after drama, conflict after conflict. So you get maybe a slightly wider view of people's lives ... and I think it's comforting for people ....to listen to a gentle episode... the minutiae of everyday life, really"

AD/Lizzie : "... and there's something magical, I think, as well, that TV doesn't offer, when you're in your own space, at home and listening to these same voices, year in year out and going through perhaps similar experiences..... You build a picture you feel you know these characters and it's very personal . Whereas TV it's presented to you - that's it, ... take it or leave it. With TA we're all whoever the listener wants us to be..."

BM: "And do you feel a weight of responsibility because of - the heritage of the programme? Is that something you try not to worry too much about?

RA/K: "I think you're aware of it because of the reactions a lot of people have to the programme and how how important it is to them..."

Just from one of the interviews. I think it says it all really. ...which begs the question - yet again - as to why editor and/or SWs don't seem to be able to, as they say, get with the program...

[Ex-listener and as it turns out, blogger.... think perhaps it's time I changed my username]
