✩ Loved Lisa & Robin's routine. Far and away the best dance of the two evenings and totally deserved top of the leader-board slot. All the elements SCD is trying to achieve. Entertaining good Dancing and a great partnership rather than well performed with zero chemistry. Kristina did very well with Colin despite the height difference handicap. Natalie and Erin again showed what great teachers they are (Judges need to remember Richard is NOT Russell). Fern is bringing out the lighter side of Artem. Sid was a pleasant surprise.

Someone needs to take the auto-cue away, Bruce is much better unscripted.
Please stop patronising Dani & Vincent (this means both Tess and Bruce).

A great start and looking forward to next week. ♬

I think the marking is too low. I know the judges over-marked last year but under-marking this year is no better. I think you could add on at least 5 marks to most of the totals to get a more realistic score. Even in the days of Arlene Phillips the marks weren't this low for so many, one or two perhaps, but not so many.

It's really interesting reading all the posts on this blog and there's lots of love out there for Lisa & Robin and the Cha-Cha-Cha they performed last night, not that I'm surprised because I agree that hers was the best overall performance of the weekend (I know Kimberley's Cha-Cha-Cha was great but Lisa's had more energy in it and she really 'sold it' whereas I felt that Kimberley held back a bit, although I'm sure she'll let go over the coming weeks). I think another reason people loved Lisa & Robins routine was the music!! Super song choice by Robin as it really got people going right from the start and it really made you want to get up and dance (like Mark & Karen's 'Hot Hot Hot' Salsa years ago). I think the music is SO important for me, as if I love the music right from the start it gets me hooked on the routine and if you love your music it makes you want to get up and dance and for me that's what counts!! The sheer look of enjoyment on both Lisa & Robins faces was priceless and I hope they go far in the competition because they really deserve to!! Oh and for those people asking whether that was an illegal lift at the end, well I really don't think it was because Robin jumped into her arms so technically she didn't actually lift him off the ground!! Can't wait to see what they do next!!!! Go Lisa & Robin!!!!

    Hi all,

So there you have it the first weekend of Strictly 2012 a showcase of dances, shocks, and surprises.

And Saturday's show was better than Friday's we got a smile and higher scores from Mr Revel Horwood, some of Brucie's jokes were worth listening to though his lack of ability reading an auto cue is still there.

But let's get down to it s shall we.

Biggest surprises of the weekend would have to be Sid and Ola and Robin and Lisa I wasn't expecting much from them two left feet and very limited dancing but then they danced and the whole thing took off Ola brought out Sid's sensitive and romantic side in that waltz and Robin god he did a fantastic job with Lisa brought out her fun and vivacious side who cared about the technical aspects Team RiRo were loving it and the public were as well long may they continue well until they run out if steam and ideas.

Nicky and Karen really need some major improvement Nicky's posture was dire and was not helped with having his hands in his pockets the whole time.

Dani and Vincent I see some great ability in provided she can overcome the nerves and granted Victoria messed up but there is dancing ability there.

Heading for the dance off next week would have to be Jerry and Anton and Fern and Artem I keep Johnny and Iveta out of danger this week as the novelty couples are always a hit with the viewers and he is a guaranteed save.

It might shock you all but I think Fern and Artem will be heading for the foot bath and early taxi home because even though Jerry was dire it was more a photoshoot than a dance Fern and Artem's cha cha was just way to slow and not a patch on the other couples the only things that were the saving graces were Artem selling the bodywork to a gay man his chest is paradise and Fern showing some dance movement and sone leg maybe a ballroom dance might redeem them and keep them out if the bottom two.

But for me at this stage my early tips for the first dance off Sunday week will be Fern and Artem and Jerry and Anton with Fern and Artem going home.

Have a good week, see you all back here next Saturday and,

Fergal what I think is the three that are going to be fighting to stay out of the dance off is Fern and Artem, Jerry and Anton and sad to say Johnny and Iveta, Hope that Johnny will stay for the sake of Aliona because I would like to see Johnny having the chance to dance with Aliona. Agree with you with Nicky and KAren need more improvement .

I think the biggest mistake of the first Strictly was made by Brendon. He created the problem for Victoria by making the routine far too fast and complex for her first dance. He needs to curb his competitiveness and realise that a teacher has to take things step by step, or else he'll have her voted out before she's had the chance to feel at ease and therefore make progress. A pity, but it will be interesting to see if he can learn from his mistakes and then let her learn too.

I was surprised by Lisa and very let down by Nicky...I hope this sets out just how fantastic this series will be, not the generic people sailing through not on ability but on fanbase! Roll on next week! Hope Penders gets over her nerves - poor lass

@ lostchachachamp - Agree with much of what you say, although I think much will depend on those who have Latin routines. So Richard & Erin could also be in the danger zone despite a lovely waltz. Where Johnny & Iveta could well benefit from a nice Foxtrot. ♪

I have to agree with you lostchachachamp these three couples will be fighting to stay out if th e dance off.

But as we have seen before the public always go for the underdog novelty couple and so I think Johnny has a chance of staying out if the dance off.

Also Anton has a pretty powerful fan base so that might keep him out of trouble however Jerry was totally dire all she did was pose and preen like a a Cheshire cat with no dance movement there was some hip movement but deep down a dire performance and a lame partner which might give Anton an early exit.

Fern and Anton saving graces were in that dance Anton's chest and Fern giving some leg but hopefully a ballroom dance might redeem them and keep them out of the bottom two and as stated Fern has brought Artem's caring and sensitive side.

Some more comments Louis great Olympian did this year did the UK proud in the Pole Vault but will have to do something about the ego and not make the partnership all about him and Kimberley and Pasha sold it last night and as far I'm concerned at this early stage they are the one's to watch.

And if something could be said about Nicky and Karen they will have to sort out not only the dancing but the partnership because I noticed a lack of chemistry between them that will have to be sorted.

Now for the dance off possibly Johnny and Iveta and if the three I suggested don't end up in the bottom two could we see a possible shock dance off on the second week just a thought.

Oh by the way apologies if I don't mention all the couples but I'm trying to condense my comments as I tried to do a rather huge blog featuring all couples and when it was out on screen half of it was missing.

So have a good week and

Sorry have to make corrections to my comment second paragraph I meant Artem's chest not Anton's chest and some of paragraph 4 might be difficult to understand by my wording but what I wanted to say was Louis Smith is a fantastic Olympian and did the UK proud at the Olympics this year but he is going to have. To do something about the ego and not make the partnership about him.

Because all Darcy could comment on was Louis not Flavia there are two to a partnership so goodnight have a good week and

Just thought I'd call in if my spelling sentences or grammar are hard to make sense off it's because I'm sitting on my sofa at home typing on my ipad and I'm still trying to get used to the touch screen typing and also making sure I keep the screen bigger so I can see what I'm typing.

I got it as a birthday present and I kind of like them both the ipad and my own main computer.

So if I do go wrong it's down to that.

    Goodnight all

I've just tried to watch a couple of clips from the week 1 show but the quality is appalling, especially in full screen mode. The still photos are garish and look like something out of a cheap American comic. Surely the Beeb can do a more professional job than this.

Another great series in prospect but surely even Brucie himself knows it's time to go by now. After his weekend performance I think I will have to start recording the programme so I can fast forward through his cringe making performances. Sit and watch it at home Brucie with a cup of honey tea.

Poor Anton; I fear that unless things improve he will have to put his hopes of competing in the final on hold yet again; will somebody give the poor man a break!!

Mundomar: It's instagram. It takes perfectly good photos and makes them look rubbish.

Fergal: Louis works on pommel horse in gymnastics, not pole vault, which is athletics. ITT may prove me wrong, but Louis' "I did well" had a note of surprise in it for me, which rescued it from egotism.

I agree that Nicky was dire. He had improved on his first-day performance as per vt, but was still wooden and had neither musicality nor emotion. He'd be in my bottom 2, but I'm sure there are enough boy band voters out there to keep him safe.

Looks like were in for a great series.

Lisa's was outstanding, some people have said they felt it lacked content and looking back i can see what they mean. But this is the first dance and she performed at semi-final level, and she deserved those marks. I don't see her in the final but would be happy to be proven wrong.

Sid was also surprising. i am keen to see more from him.

Louis was every bit as good as i expected, and i also feel "i did well" was more surprise than arrogance.

Hoping Victoria can steady her nerves. am a big fan of hers.

I think Nicky was expecting a better response from the judges, despite being marked down for the lift, he still would have had quite a low score. His fan base will keep him in and give him a chance to really shine.

Poor old Anton has his work cut out for him. Jerry needs to loosen up and "dance".
