So tonight our first six celebrities have made their Strictly dancefloor debut and here are the all-important scores on the floors for our first LIVE show. Topping the leader board is Denise and James who according to Craig 'left the best till last' with 25 points and languishing at the bottom was a slightly nervous Olympian Victoria Pendleton with 16 points.

Surprised at Victoria, but I'm sure she'll do better later once she realises how BIG this is :)

Not sure about the new girl, I like Craig he tells it like it is, Ms Bussell was a bit limp tonight ya.

Why has Strictly Moved to Friday nights? This was my children's favourite part of the weekend and watching the results on a Saturday will be such a poor second to watching the actual dancing. This was our favourite programme and I fear we will miss it each week now.

The first six celebs all have potential, but all have work to do. If I had to pick one celeb who stood out, for me it would be Michael. When in hold he looked like a dancer, he's got real promise. Was surprised and sad at Victoria, she was obviously overcome with nerves. The first dance does not define you, Victoria will come back next week stronger, and in Brendan she couldn't ask for a greater pro, she is in real good hands. So onwards and upwards.

The first episode shows that this years celebs have potential - all so far. I so hope that Darcy's commentary (which was useful) isn't punctuated by to frequent 'yeah?' for too long because that is so irritating (sorry Darcy) - and hope it was only first night nerves otherwise we'll find ourselves needing to mute (an option) her as well as Craig if he insists on being Craig - and Len who seems to have double standards? When Craig says negative things Len curls up his lip but when he does the same and the audience react he gets even grumpier - can't have it both ways Len. Which just leaves Bruno to listen to. Looking forward to tonight though!

Love that Strictly is back! Felt for Victoria as think her nerves really got to her. I'm sure she'll improve but the pressure she'll put on herself may be her undoing.
Only downside is Darcys "ya's". Aargh! Sooooo annoying.

I agree with the comments about Darcy's 'yah's' - they are slightlyl annoying after a while, but other than that I was impressed with her as she gave good positive feedback and advice on how the celeb's could improve. I have to admit I wasn't sure I would take to Darcy but I was pleasantly surprised tonight. I agree with the previous comments about CRH and Len - thank god for Bruno though, I absolutely love him. I think most of the celebs were suffering from nerves, which is understandable, but cannot understand how Michael was marked ahead of Fern and Artem - I thought his waltz was dire and there was no personality whatsoever. Fern's cha cha on the other hand was full of personality and zing and unlike Len I loved the skirt wafting. She's got lovely legs, so why shouldn't she show them off !!! Can't wait for the second show tonight.

    Hi all,

Just thought I'd call in make a quick comment I have to head to work.

I did feel sorry for as said for Victoria but on the whole of it I did see some dance potential there it's not so much the whole routine you need to look out for it's all the elements of the routine like a dish on Masterchef prepare, make it, and plate up she got to the prep and cooking stages but missed the plating up I can see some promise there.

Only thing that let Colin down last night wasn't the dance but that wardrobe malfunction whoever thought it was a good idea to put him in that leopardskin jacket not a good idea.

And Darcy I like her as a judge has great opinions but as stated the whole yah thing she looks like she's auditioning for a part in Downton Abbey.

Well that's me see you all tonight
    Keeeeeeeeeep Dancing

Just finished watching it on iPlayer and summing everything up I think we all know what was easily the best Cha-Cha-Cha and Waltz. The Cha-Cha-Cha was from Colin and the best Waltz was from Denise. But they surprised me - a lot. I had hope for them but I did not expect them to perform as well overall as they did. But I have one issue.

The bigger picture I can see. Arms, posture and stride. But once you get down to things like 'heel' leads I fail to see it so I can't see where Len's criticism was from about the lack of 'heel lead' from Denise.

I know, like Denise and Colin, they each performed one of the two styles required but the reason why I think we were much more disappointed in Victoria's poor Cha-Cha-Cha than Nicky's Waltz is down to expectation and hope. Theirs still a lot of residual support from her stunning performance in the Games and I think that is why she perhaps felt more pressure than Nicky. I think both will need though to improve by the same amount and in the same ways.

And finally Fern. I thought she moved a bit better in the feet. Don't know what you guys thought but theirs shades of good footwork there. But I for me I don't think she kept it up for long enough.

I wish all the judges had penalised Karen for the lift. Perhaps an unpopular stance, but last year it got way out of hand and it wasn't until halfway through the series that Len issued his "official warning." (Or was that two years ago? Gosh--feeling old) Then Victoria wouldn't have been bottom of the leaderboard!

I must say I'm surprised that the scores are so much lower than last year's--when I'd looked at the VTs here, it semed that there was mucxh more promise overall! Nerves are deadly...

At last Strictly Come Dancing 2012 has arrived.
What a disappointment in the judges! Have they been told to be more vicious in this series to keep up the ratings? Remember the contestants are rank amateurs trying their best to meet exacting standards. They're not in the show to be deliberately bad.
Craig tuck your claws in and give constuctive not bitchy criticism!
Darcy please do away with the "ya's" and "yeah's."
Len please go back to being constructive and supporting.
Bruno is, as always, entertaining and a joy to watch with his exuberant commentary.
Good luck to all the contestants and hopefully have fun learning to be dancers. We applaud your efforts and thank you all for your entertainment value.

Nothing to do with the dancing, but I thing the singing has really improved. Used to make me cringe at times, but I enjoyed every song they did. Keep up the good work!

Nicky has so much potential but I hated Craig and his vitriol towards Karen and Nicky - I want Nicky to do really well this year

I think there could well be 3 strong teams tonight Kimberley & Pasha, Louis & Flavia and Danni and Vincent. Sadly I feel unless Victoria is able to get on top of her nerves she could well be leaving this competition early sadly. I was surprised at Colin and Kristina who I thought looked good despite on their height difference. Hear on the internet that Lisa will be lifting Robin! so that sounds quite interesting. Looking forward to seeing Jerry in action - I think we could be surprised.

Just catching up on all the gossip this morning after last night's show and I have to agree with most of the comments made about potential and nerves etc. I hope Suzanne realises that the Friday show is just a one off and that Strictly will also be shown on Saturdays at the usual time.

I should just like to say how enjoyable the show was yesterday - only sensible trailers and no props to contend with. I also applaud Craig's stance on liftgate, however, I have to conceed that his comments were too harsh for a first night.

As all the others, I really appreciated Darcy's insightful comments and only hope she feels more secure by next week enabling her to relax and cut out the yahs. She need have no fear that people would not take her comments seriously and therefore does not need confirmation on every point. However, this was a minor detail on what otherwise was a thoroughly fantastic show. Roll on tonight!

Suzanne, comment 2 - Strictly isn't listed for next Friday so we can happily assume it will stay as a Saturday night treat. They did this in previous series, if you think back.

We were a bit surprised by the low scores initially, but are quite glad because we've felt contestants have been over scored in the beginning in the past, leaving the the judges with nowhere to go when somebody was really good.

Agree with those on this thread and others that Darcy's 'ya' after almost every comment became annoying but probably down to first night nerves. I still fail to see why a ballet dancer is qualified to judge a latin/ballroom competition (over and above someone like Karen Hardy, who would have been my choice - or anyone else from the latin/ballroom world - must be hundreds who'd like the gig!), but greater brains than mine have decreed that she is so I'm prepared to give her a few weeks to prove herself. Thought Craig waded in a bit fast to tell Karen Hauer off about the lift - although agree she needed to be told - just felt that he could have said something positive *first* and then tell her. Poor gal!

Thought there was a bit of disparity between how Nicky Byrne was treated by the judges after his dance and then the way they spoke to Victoria Pendleton... they seemed more supportive towards her. I shall watch it again and might change my mind. I'm glad that Craig pointed out that the choreography is down to the pro not the celeb - it has really annoyed us in previous series when the judges blamed the celeb for something over which they have no control.

Did anyone stay with the red button commentary? We tried it but found it distracting (even thought we think Karen is fab).

I would like to add that I think ALL the celebrities are brave to do this - I know they are paid to do it but no amount of money would induce me to expose myself and my abilities (or lack thereof) on Saturday night prime time tv to be our entertainment, and be judged by the panel and the newspapers and people on forums. So thanks to all for agreeing to be part of something which I look forward to all year.
