Johnny Ball has become our first celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing. After facing the dreaded Dance Off; sadly for Johnny the judges made a unanimous decision to save Richard Arnold.

In an emotional end to his Strictly dream Johnny left saying "I think for my age I did quite, quite well. I'm so disappointed I'm leaving, I really, really am."

Here's how Johnny and his fellow celebrities felt about his departure...

Sorry to see Johnny go, I remember him from the 70s & 80s and always liked his shows. Actually voted for him (first and last time ever voting) as I thought he would be in trouble. Shame really, I thought Michael and Nicky deserved to go, and Jerry should get her act together.

Could we please get rid of Claudia Winkleman, she is an appalling presenter and I find her deeply annoying. I'm sick of her Boris Johnson style ' I'm all befuddled and scatty but actually I'm really superior and taking the mickey out of you' routine.

Very sad to see Johnny Ball voted off in the first round, as he approached the entire show with dignity, humour and class. A pity Tess Daley decided not to do the same, by talking over him as he tried to say goodbye. Perhaps people wiill actually vote on who the best dancers are in future rounds, rather than who they personally like, but I doubt it. Nicky, Victoria and Michaal were esepcially lucky today.

Given who was in the dance off it was the right result. However should these pairs have been in the dance off - No.

This was the wrong result!!! Neither of the couples in the dance off should have been there!!!!
It should have been Nicky and Karen and Michael and Natalie!!!!!!
Think the BBC need to sort this out!!!!!
    NOT a HAPPY BUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't predict the GBP at all, so had no idea who the bottom two were going to be, but did suspect that as soon as Johhny found himself inside a dance-off that he would be toast, so no surprise for that part of it. Hats off to Iveta, however, With a lot less time and an older partner, she has done a much better job of endearing herself to the GBP than Karen seems to have managed so far. Agree with the earlier poster, Karen might well do better on DWTS. She seems bright enough, however, so she still has a decent chance of learning enough by trial and error to make a place for herself here.

As for Johnny, well, there were worse routines danced, so I don't think he needs to regret having a go.

My favourite TV show is going downhill- rapidly! To bring back the dance-off is morally indefensible given previous fiascos; if viewers are asked to pay to vote they must decide who keaves the show NOT the judges! Further, having Denise Van Outen, who I have seen dancing PROFESSIONALLY in Chicago and others, on the show is unfair to both the other celebs and the viewers! Double black marks to the production team; sort it now, please!

Well SCD is beating that other show in ratings apparently. ✩

Sadly the return of the dance off brought with it as much tension as perished elastic on a sling shot. Not withstanding all the reasons it is wrong gorscot has mentioned.

Biggest shame is losing Iveta who in her short time on SCD has managed to charm many of us with her kindness and patience with Johnny.

I do think it was the right decision, certainly in the long run.
Although I think Michael and Natalie should've been in the bottom 2, going purely by their performance and though I adore Natalie..

I felt Johnny Ball handled the situation like a total gent..

What are the judges on?? They all agreed that it was about content but how in the name of all that is holy were they able begin comparing both dances? It was Ballroom v Latin. It is like comparing grapes to coconuts. Ballroom is a holiday in Rome and Latin is a drunken night with the lads in Ibiza. They both require totally different expressions of content.

I believe there was something more to the process that saw JB leave Strictly' than most people are willing to let on. The older you are the less likely you are to survive much past Week 2.

*David Dickenson must have been in his 60's in 2004 when Series 1 began and he was the 2nd out.
    * Esther Rantzen was also in her 60's I am sure when she was eliminated from Week 3 of Series 2.
*Gloria Hunniford was dispatched from the same week the next year also in her 60's. Dennis Taylor was in his mid 50's when he was eliminated 5th from the same series.
    * In Series 4 in 2006 Nicolas Owen was again granted one of the poorest dances I have seen but nevertheless I think he was about 59 when he was eliminated 1st.
    * Brian Capron and Stephanie Beecham had just hit 60 I am sure when they were given the boot from Week 1 and Week 2 respectively in 2007.
    * Ex-EastEnder Gillian Taylforth was IIRC in her early 50's when in 2008 she was voted out.
    * Lynda Bellingham was in 2009 at Week 4 voted out I think in her early 60's.
    * Three years ago Paul Daniels was about 72 I think when he left in Week 3 and Peter Shilton was around 61 when he left the series a week later.
    * On Saturday Edwina Currie celebrated her 66th so last September when she must have been 65 she was eliminated from the series.

And now this. I am not suggesting ageism but you can't help think the show is all about the younger nubile talent.

Probably the right choice although I would have preferred to see Jerry go as she is really not making an effort. Its hardly ever the people at the bottom of the leader board who go. Its not safe to be in the bottom half.

Sad Johnny Ball he worked so hard and seemed so upset - he had such a difficult time on Strictly what with losing his partner right at the beginning - he did extremely well and I'm sure inspired many by appearing on the show. What will happen to his partner will she now remain on the programme as a professional to dance with Pasha?

I was in tears when Johnny didn't get through. At least two other couples deserved to go before him. A big travesty...!

Guess it was the right decision. I just hope I am as fit as he is when I get that old. We could do with better music all round which might help the celebrities. Who on earth chooses Tess's dresses? They are terrible and do nothing for her. Please bring back Claudia on It Takes Two. We have stopped watching it as Zoe is always interrupting!!

Iam very disapointed that johnny ball had to be the first to go as he represented the more vintage age group i.e like himself sir bruce! and it is very uplifting to see a man of that age group even consider to be put up against those like denise van outen . My opinion for all its worth is why such a varied category of mixed levels ? perhaps a consideration would be maybe two categories maybe intermediate or beginners . Well done johnny you will be sadly missed by everyone and i will always be voting for the less advantaged, this programme needs to think A PROFFESSIONALISM WITHIN THE DANCE / B ENTERTAINMENT WITHIN THE DANCE ?

It almost needs two seasons. One for the older contestants and a longer one for the younger fitter crowd. The more mature contestants being in a shorter season with fewer dances to learn over all.

We would also get two seasons a year of SCD - never a bad thing.

I voted for Johnny because he danced well and was most improved. And he is the most likeable. I am sure that Zoe will be very disappointed. I do not know how the public vote is calculated but Johnny was not in the bottom two beforehand. Michael Vaughan is not good but he does try rather like his batting in his last season. I hope he has to dance off next week. Also Victoria P is having to learn fast as she is by no means a natural dancer unlike Denise or Lisa. Jerry Hall should be next to go as unless she is prepared to dance and not just swan around then she is being disrespectful. I reckon the force of her personality is defying the judges to say otherwise. Pity the Producer or probably junior assistant who has to escort her off the premises next week.
