Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

Good morning from a dark and dank London. One of those days when the darkness seems to last for a long time. At least I'm staying put for most of it, with no train journeys, school visits or book waving to do. A sedate breakfast then a tortuous day of rewrites before WORK and the DAY JOB takes over.
Art Garfunkel is our guest. One of the THE voices of my growing up, Simon and Garfunkel were my earliest musical devotion. I was late to the party being too young to be a part of that sixties folk world but Bridge Over Troubled Water was my first album, Paul Simon my first proper concert (£5 at the London Palladium). Radio 1 had an enormous series called 'Simon and Garfunkel Together and Alone' and I recorded the whole series with a microphone next to my radio. I knew every word. I recorded the interview a couple of days ago before Art flew back home and he is, I would say, a delightful if somewhat eccentric interview. On introduction, I said 'Hello Art, I'm Simon.' He said 'I hate that name!' He was joking but it gave an insight into his mindset I thought. It's a good chat-hear Art after 6.
And SKYFALL/JAMES BOND PREMIERE OLDIES please. Chris was talking about driving past the Royal Albert Hall this morning and that it is all set, red carpet out and poised for the showbiz event of the autumn. The movie is fantastic, maybe the best Bond ever and I'm hoping to make it tonight to see it again. The fact that you have to be seated by 7.10 is, admittedly, an issue. I may well be all revved up with no place to go (other than home).
Have a sprightly and energetic Tuesday, see you after 5.

    Morning all

Hmm, an excuse for first concerts and albums reminiscences!

Hmm, first album on vinyl I think was "Abba's Greatest Hits Vol 1", which pre-dated Arrival I believe. First rock album was "A Day At The Races" which really kicked off my love of music.

First concert - Steve Hackett at Poole Arts Centre.

That first experience concert experience is really quite something when you feel bass notes hitting you on your chest for the first time (front row of the circle may well have contributed to that sensation).

No idea about the oldies theme at the moment.

Hmmm, I'm in the 'never seen a James Bond film' club.

But I think I'm right in thinking there is always a Bond Girl?

    Moring all,
Woke up yesterday with an awful pain in my mouth. Was lucky enough to get an app with the dentist for his evening surgery. Lots of fathing about with an x-ray machine later, he told my not only do I have an absess, I have TWO of the things next to each other !?? Oh joy. Now on tabs for the little blighters. Grrrrr

What say, DIAMONDS AND PEARS - PRINCE as i the plot always seems to involve the theft of precious stones.

Hoping to see Skyfall on Friday while cherub is at school, as we wont get a chance during Half Term next week. While she does rather love watching car chases from asorted Bond movies I seriously doubt she would sit through a whole one yet. Then again, I was youger than her when first taken to watch one, so perhaps this could be her first :-)

Looking dry here, but not sure for how long. Hope all is well with you dear peeps.

    Good morning everyone

Like Sal I'm also in the 'never seen a James Bond film' club but I have seen Art Garfunkel twice in the past five years and prefer his voice to Paul Simon's and he can sing all those lovely ballads on his own too!

My first thought is girls and gun, so I'll go for...

WEST END GIRLS ~ Pet Shop Boys

    SOME GIRLS ~ Racey

GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN ~ Cyndi Lauper

    Hi Simon and everyone

Back in the room today after a hectic wild goose chase yesterday courtesy of a duff SatNav!!! Good news though as the practice in question are going to use me on a job by job basis rather than standard hour week, basically I will be completing the accounts and tax of various clients and get paid on basis of a third of what they are billed! Also another two films want to use me this way which is good news and softens the blow of a rejection this morning which I am glad because I think a lackie was wanted not someone who uses their own initiative!!

Hope you are better now Deebee, don't be ill for Monday as time to celebrate our joint birthday again....does that make me a Blogvet if I remember blogging on my birthday last year?

My first album that i had was a 2 album compilation of 1981 hits called "Superhits 1 and 2". it contained Altered Images, Depeche Mode and Annika on it!

My first concert was Duran Duran at the NEC in 1984 on the day of my last exam and it was a free homecoming concert after them being away in the Caribbean shooting videos!

    Now Bond tunes:

    1.DANIEL - Elton John
    2.SMOOTH OPERATOR - Sade
    3. RED - Daniel Merryweather ( Carpet)
    4. MISTER BLUE SKY - ELO
    5. GOLDENEYE - Tina Turner
    6. GOLD - Spandau Ballet
    7. HERO - Enrique Igelsias
    8. CHASING CARS - Snow Patrol
    9. GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS - Sailor
    10. FALLIN - Alicia Keys

Oh well must crack on, have an agency meeting to discuss role I am being put forward for at what I think is the new name for the Learning and Skills Council.

    Have a nice day

    Laters

    Mandy ;)

I attended a premiere yesterday evening. A documentary on Status Quo, so not quite as grand as James Bond, but fun nonetheless. And I got to walk on a red carpet :o)

    For the papparazzi:
    RINGO STARR - Photograph

FLOCK OF SEAGULLS - Wishing (If I Had A Photograph of You)

    For any Z-List celebs:
THE WHO - Who Are You?

    And for James Bond himself:
    ELTON JOHN - Daniel
