Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

Think I'll go with a dress-down Friday theme today; jeans, t-shirt and an air of slovenliness. This of course is how I approach most days and am grateful every morning that I don't need to be suited and booted on a regular basis. The glories of radio. Had to be a bit smarter at 5 LIve in case someone important turned up but only slightly. An ironed t-shirt being the absolute minimum needed which seems fair enough. It is unlikely that anyone important will turn up today however. The 2 show Friday starts at 12 today due to the Ryder Cup taking over on 5L and we only get an hour to squeeze everything in. My guess is I'll get to say at least a sentence or two.
Plus, casual attire fine today because there are no school visits scheduled. I struggle a bit on these trips to know what to wear. Staff obviously need to be smart pour encourager les autres and they don't need some DJ scruff to come and give the wrong impression. So a jacket on top seems a good compromise. Yesterday, in the deepest parts of wooded Surrey, all went well and I was wearing a sweater! So we might have had a few new Year 10 listeners yesterday (14/15 year olds as I knew really, just forgot. Ahem). Hope they enjoyed the Frank Sinatra!
And so eventually to R2 and the ARF for a selection of weekend treats. Claim that crown back right now.
Have a casual, insouciant Friday. See you after 12 and 5.

    Good Morning again -

Question - from yesterday's blog - Do I change my name? Drop the "l" officially? Ha!

    An ARFO?

Have I ever requested THE BEAT by The Look? Top Tune!

    Shall I request it today?

Happy Friday Simon, team and lovely blog people

Cold here but I am still resisting the heating.

I meant to say yesterday perhaps Simon’s hands only look a normal size in comparison to DrK’s large flappy ones? As for his ears, can’t say I every paid that much attention!

Billie - from over the page - there is something childishly funny if you do drop the l for a little while anyway.

No joy with Mumford tickets Shona - I did try though!

Another Friday, another hat-trick of hats thrown for the ARFO

FIELDS OF FIRE - BIG COUNTRY

    TEENAGE KICKS - THE UNDERTONES

    MAYBELLINE - CHUCK BERRY

Morning Simon, team, NYM, and well-pressed bloggers,

Need to be quick as I have multiple windows open trying to get Mumford tickets. I hate that T**ketmaster site! And to add insult to injury, tickets are already available on other websites for double the price. Grrrrrrrrr.

Could this be the week your Lordship's size 7's tap along to this fine ARFO tune...?

JOHNNY BE GOOD - Chuck Berry

or, as an alternative in a similar stylee

AT THE HOP - Danny & The Juniors

    Good day all!

    Good morning all,

A bit bleary eyed after the concert last night. The Beach Boys were fantastic, it is incredible to believe that they are in their late 60's early 70's. I was going to choose 'I Get Around' for ARFO, but see that this was played yesterday for the golf oldies theme. So I would like to proffer:

    Geno - Dexy's Midnight Runners

The Story Of The Blues - Wah

Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Tears For Fears

Off to wax my surf board.......... ;-)

    Mornin' all...

As we're off to see Nik Kershaw tonight, why not start with Nik Kershaw - The Riddle?

I've got no idea what he's singing about to be honest, but then again I have very little clue about life in general - it's all a riddle to me.

    Have a good weekend everyone.

    TTFN.

#1 Billie, as Amelia says it would be très amusant - so go for it, why not!

Although actually... do we even need to suffix our names with 'on the blog' or prefix with 'blogger'? Simon says it anyway, and you don't get people calling themselves 'John Smith on Twitter' or 'Facebooker Mary Jane'... Although again... just to counter my own argument - there is something about labelling oneself 'blogger', it's like we're all part of a special club. Rather nice...

    Good Morning All;

Back to rain and grey skies here, *sigh* the sunshine didn't last long. Oh well, that's what you get when you're on the cusp of October, I suppose. October?!!! Where has the year gone? It has really felt like these last few years have flown by with indecent haste, maybe it's just me. :-/

Anyway, enough maudlin talk, onto the business of the day, ARFO suggestions...

YOU SHOOK ME (ALL NIGHT LONG) - AC/DC

    LOUIE LOUIE - THE KINGSMEN

    SWEET CAROLINE - NEIL DIAMOND

THE IRISH ROVER - THE POGUES & THE DUBLINERS

An eclectic mix, to be sure! :D

Good morning Blogpoppets one and all – a lovely ride in with sunrises and rainbows. Not much stamping bits of paper today, more ripping things up – very therapeutic. Anyway can I try with:

BLINDED BY THE LIGHT – MANFRED MAN’S EARTH BAND

I spoke too soon – paper is on it’s way to me to be stamped.

#1 Billie on the Bog, I think the reason your selection is never played is that its called 'I Am the Beat' and clearly the youngster in charge of pre-selection is confusing it with either a record by The Beat or the song 'The Look' by my favourite Swedish band, Roxette!

I also love that record - particulalrly the line about Mr Gruber, whatever its referring to!

Well I thought hubbs had indecently small feet at size 8, but turns out there is no need for embaresment :-) You has 'dancin' feet' my lord and should put them to good use!

A soggy morning here, rain back with gusto. It had better stop soon.

Rather bothered about cherubs mogpoppet who hasent eaten for 24 hours. He's a substantial lad so the lack of fud shouldent harm him, but how long should I leave it before calling in a vet?? Questions questions.

    Hello all.

A quick poop by for ARFO and then back later to catch-up and chat:

Do Do Ron Ron - The Crystals
    or
Do Wah Diddy - Manfred Mann

    I seem to be in a 'Do ..... ' mood :)

Good Morning Each! I'd like to claim back the ARF crown, hopefully with one of these...

'Schooldays' by Chuck Berry (for those new Y10 listeners. Let's show 'em how we roll round here)

    'Everlasting Love' by Love Affair.

    'Rubber Bullets' by 10CC

'Living After Midnight' by Judas Priest

    'Hey Jealousy' by Gin Blossoms

A quick skip through a few decades of the last century, there.

Incidentally, Simon. Size 7 feet? How on earth do you manage to keep yourself balanced and perpendicular to the ground? I imagine you must sink into the lawn whilst going about fox patrol on the estate. Have you considered divers flippers?
