Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

Good grief. Another birthday to consider. There was a story around a year or so back that most of think we are about 17 years younger than we actually are. In our heads we get older so much slower. Not sure I'm feeling 37 but it's not far off. There are occasions of course when I feel 100 but normally it's 42 or so. I am the proud recipient of a new shirt, jumper, sherbet lemons, back scratcher and The Shorter English Dictionary in 2 volumes. This last gift (mother-in-law a retired librarian, she knows these things) is without doubt the heaviest gift ever received. I think it's the last one they're producing as we all go online now but it is a monster of a gift, it's like holy writ- gold-edged pages and all! The sherbet lemons are the dead cert hit and indeed might be all gone by 5pm.

2 shows today with no long haul trains to worry about. Oliver Stone is our guest on the movie show from 2. His new film is Savages about some LA druggies getting mixed up with Mexican uber-baddies and is receiving, lets be honest , mixed reviews. But he is always a fine guest and he's on from 2.30.

Then to your weekly ARF with a new king/queen to be crowned once you've delivered your coup de grace below.

Have a startling and reassuring Friday, see you after 2&5.

    Mandy,
Im totally with you on the Pear Drops. My uncle used to run a post office up in the Lake District, and when we visited I always stared longingly at the sweet jars untill offered a quater of one. I ALWAYS chose Pear Drops - :-)

As for my own choice, I think

    ALL MY LOVING - Beatles

would be a fine way to start the show. Or you could go for

WHILE YOU SEE A CHANCE - Steve Winwood

    Back laters for some chat...

Did you not get a 'Onesie' Simon? Cherub spent the last of her vouchers on one the other day from a well known store whose name appears at the top of the blog each morning (previous/main/NEXT). Ive herd rumers they are having a 'FLASH' sale this weekend so I might go down and pick one up for myself :-)

    Morning all

Happy Birthday Simon! We do seem to have a lot on September birthdays on this blog?

    Can I suggest

DOOBIE BROTHERS - LONG TRAIN RUNNING

    or

    FM - BLOOD AND GASOLINE

    for ARFO please.

Thank you for all your thoughts for the daughter's tooth out at the dentist yesterday, which went ok and she is fine today. Think the worst bit was the injections to numb it before it was taken out. Peppa Pig who she took for moral support, needed resucitation afterwards I think as it was squeezed so hard!

    Cheers

Good morning all and a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you, Simon!

Woke up with the sniffles and sneezes this morning - they've been lurking since the beginning of the month - but a sunny, if muddy, dog walk more than made up for it even if I have gone through half a box of mansize already. Still, it's only a sniffle, could be a lot worse.

    My ARFO suggestions today

TOO MUCH TOO YOUNG - The Specials
    or
SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO - The Clash

    both eminently suitable I think.

Busy day, just for a change. Feel like a bit of an interloper lately but will try to get back later, after I've done and put away the 'big shop' maybe.

    Have fun and play nicely.

    Good Morning All;

Another (not 50 shades of) grey day, back under the duvet for me, I don't want any more bad news today, thank you very much.

Happy birthday Simon! Enjoy your sherbet lemons. :-)

    ARFO suggestions....

    MY GENERATION - THE WHO

(YOU'RE SO SQUARE) BABY I DON'T CARE - ELVIS PRESLEY

Just read back yesterday's blog as no chance to do this last night. Belated Birthday wishes to Gazza. It seems strange that you are now all grown up;)

Jennie, I hope things go well today.

It is a beautiful sunny day here today albeit a tad frosty this morning. You curl up under that duvet Zoe and I'll send some sunshine your way.

    #13, Erica
The final line on you message makes me think of what we say to cherub as she goes into school each morning. 'Have fun and be good', to which she replied one day last week 'I cant be good AND have fun'!

hope your day improves Zoe, can I recommend a hot bath coupled with a hot chocolate?

#16 A long soak in a hot bath, and lots of chocolate (hot or not!) sounds like just the ticket today, Gill. Curse the old "hormones", eh? Grrrrr.
