Nearly done

Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

Yes yes it's Friday and another week done. Distinctly dodgy one health wise but I'm not sure you'd have noticed that; no passing presenters hauled in to fill in and no need to resort to extra long songs just yet.
Very short blog yesterday and far more posts. Hmmm. Maybe I should just write less and see what happens? My publisher might not want me to draw too many conclusions from that...
So 2 kids abed, one kid to school and we set off on the trip towards the ARF with a jolly jaunt to 5Live. We're into the season of movie show disruption however. Today we do the show live-streamed from 2 for an hour, it'll be a podcast from 4 and broadcast at 9. I hope that sounds clear. The main radio airwaves (and digital equivalents) are needed for the tennis and who can argue with that when you get matches like Nadal vs Rosol yesterday? Sportsmen and women rarely get days when everything they try comes off but the fifth set for the Czech seemed to be precisely that. In the zone indeed.
So then we need one of your fine choices to kick the Drivetime all requester off, a song to explode out of the radio and batter everyone into submission. Gentle and subtle is not quite what we are after.
Have a nifty and elegant Friday, see you at 5 (and online on 2 etc).

    Morning all

Simon, no one would have guessed that you had to rise from your sick bed to do the shows - hope you have a better weekend than last!

    ARFO:

    KISS - Tom Jones

YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR HAT ON - Tom Jones

No real reason, except Kiss was played at my exercise class last night, and I realised I hadn't heard that version for ages!

    Good Morning All :)

Katy - Impressive list keeping again, from the previous blog. I'm still not keen on the current playlist A,B or indeed C, I wouldn't seek any of them out if they weren't foisted on me radio-wise, on a daily basis!

    ARFO suggestions...

FEELS LIKE I'M IN LOVE - KELLY MARIE

    MODERN GIRL - MEATLOAF

    REBEL REBEL - DAVID BOWIE

Good morning Simon, DT Team and fellow blogsters,

Glad that the week is ending better healthwise than it started. BTW, I enjoy reading your daily rambling musings. I think we should set a minimum word limit - your publisher would agree, I'm sure! ;-)

I think you'll find that the following ARFO suggestions are neither gentle or subtle:

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER - BLONDIE

THE POWER OF LOVE - HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS

SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY - FINE YOUNG CANNIBALS

ROCK THE CASBAH - THE CLASH

I shall try and endeavour to have a nifty Friday, not sure about the elegant bit though - not with the hayfever that has suddenly gripped me. I am sporting a 'nice' red nose and seem to be prone to loud involuntary bursts of sneezing. A delicate petal I am not! ;-)

#5 & #7 Zoe, I agree, nothing for me stands out from the current playlist. Tortie, I don't particularly like the lyrics to that Stooshe song, I think your version sounds much better! ;-)

Morning all - again - did post earlier on yesterday's blog because I didn't think I would be around much today.

Mr Mayo, may I congratulate you on reaching Friday in one piece (ish). From the fab shows that you and the team have presented this week, no-one would have known that anything was wrong. I hope that you will be able to relax with your family at the weekend (As the Eagles would say 'Take it Easy') and will, by Monday, be back into tip toparoo condition.

Sadly, sports day has been postponed. Much sadness for Mini Hoffs. Typically, as the decision was made, the sun came out. Mini Hoffs now in the classroom for the day and Mister Hoffs and I have a whole day ahead of us and a picnic to eat.....

My usual ARFO suggestion today please:

BOHEMIAN LIKE YOU - DANDY WARHOLS

Righto, off to play. Have a fab day everyone and a wonderful weekend xx

#13 The thing is: R2's average audience is aged 52 and a half years young ...
Why do Jeff Smith and his Playlist Committee continue to foist kids' music on this audience?

And why do DT production think the listeners want to hear the youthful - and let's be honest, young female - end of the wide ranging new release list? [see end of yesterday's blog].
There's a perversity here that doesn't sit easily with me.

    Good morning everyone

Pleased that Simon has managed to survive until the end of the week and I wish him a pleasant, healthy weekend!

I also hate that Stooshe song and looking at Katy's playlist on the previous page, like Zoe, I'm also not keen on most of the songs listed, but there is one I like on the 'A' list that Ken Bruce plays every day but I have never heard Simon play it -- Gossip's 'Move In The Right Direction'.

I thought about Katy this week when on several days, for the second song of the programme, Simon played either Emeli Sandé or Amy Macdonald, both of which have been played endlessly and surely more times than others on the list!

I'll polish the ARFO crown this afternoon, so it's nice and sparkly, ready to hopefully hand over to a blogpoppet. I wasn't going to choose a song for today, but it's difficult not to join in....

    Good morning, everyone!

I'll chip in my ARFO now and try to participate more later on.

    SCHOOLS OUT - ALICE COOPER
    (for Mrs coffeeBuzz-to-be)

Trying to skive off early today. I'm going out this evening, with some male friends, for not so much a 'stag night' as a 'few beers and a curry'

Sir C, if I'm in the pub first, I'll get the round in.

    Off to the coffee machine...

    Always number one !
You beat me to it this morning. Good to see you are well and life is treating you accordingly. Genuinely pleased to see home life looks happy if occasionally slightly chaotic, but it would be boring if too settled and predictable. It would be great to catch up with you properly - there are 24 years to go over !

Hope Scotland was good fun and the torch regatta will be a once in a lifetime experience - even worth the soaking.

As it's Sunday 1st July this weekend (and neither of us will ever forget THAT date), there could only be one ARFO tune in my mind and it's the one you suggested.
