All rise

Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

Actually in my house this morning which is a strange moment. No schools to talk to but back on that tour again tomorrow. The trouble with 'working from home' is of course getting roped in to give children lifts when buses fail to turn up or missed bus because spent too long looking for umbrella. If you're on a train, that's that. `Yesterday's star pupil-as i mentioned on the show-was a lad called George who told me he listened to the show regularly. Before I looked too pleased he added it was his grandmother who always had me on. Anyway this is a good thing as I subscribe to the theory that a 'target audience' is a nonsense and that everyone is welcome. Across the generations, come one, come all. I always tell the pupils that we might not have tempted them in just yet, but that Radio 2 will get them in the end. Like death and taxes.
Today we are baking. Paul Hollywood, judge on "The Great British Bake Off", will be with us. His partnership with Mary Berry has been described in The Guardian as 'the show's secret weapon' and maybe one of the best judging combos on TV. I have never baked but happily pay for other people's labour and watched last night's episode of doughnuts and celebration breads with a rising hunger. Cakes and bread are seen by the weight conscious as the devil's food but Paul looks in good shape to me and he will discuss the art of baking from 6. And GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF oldies should fill the gaps between sponge and tart (insert your own joke here).
Have a trim and sporty Wednesday, see you after 5.

How about World of Oz's "The Muffin Man". Only about two minutes long, too, so could fill a gap :) [no pun intended]

    Puppy update - Boris

In cage with big blue bandage. Very frustrating for him as his sisters are running around outside. He'd slipped out through the garden gate which had accidently been left open. Snuck un-noticed into our horses field and got kicked. Now has a fractured leg. Comes out onto the sofa in the evenings for a cuddle. May have to bring him to work next week when husband and daughter are away. Trying to keep an 8 week old puppy still is a bit like trying to herd cats - almost impossible.

    Thanks for all your comments.

Simon went to Chorleywood yesterday. Most mass produced bread is make using what is known as the “Chorleywood process”. Some people believe this is why there has been such an increase in gluten intolerance as the process makes bread so fast there is no time for the gluten to fully develop, making it more difficult to digest; or for the taste to develop for that matter.

JBG I am liking your serious and not so serious suggestions. And I'll second ponyclubmum's mosh suggestion.

    Chocolate Cake – Crowded House

My Sugar So Sweet – Nick Drake

Tea for Two – Ella Fitzgerald

Morning! Still smiling from the show yesterday, but still no voice - grrr. Hope everyone is well - am thinking particularly of anyone who has the threat of flooding hanging over them. Fingers crossed for you that the water will subside.

Paul Hollywood * (*sigh) the baking woman's crumpet, surely?! We enjoyed last night's show, and probably like a lot of others, have decided upon favourite and cringeworthy contestants. Poor Ryan last night with his savoury bun loaf and as for Sarah Jane, well, I think she did well to withstand the withering look and 'IT'S RAW!' from Mr Crumpet himself. Is he becoming the John Torode of the GBBO? Not that I am suggesting for a minute that Queen Mary should be likened in any way to Greg W (although I'd like to see HIM wear that flowery jacket!) Anyway, today's theme has inspired me to go and try a spot of baking this morning. Nothing too tricky, thankfully, although in two days' time, I am expected to put Frobscottle, Stinkbug eggs and Snozzcumbers in Mini Hoffs' packed lunch for Roald Dahl Day. I'm thinking that stilton and bananas might be a good place to start.......

Not in any way expecting any kind of mention after yesterday but will suggest:

    GOLDEN BROWN - THE STRANGLERS

    BAKER STREET - GERRY RAFFERTY

Off to read back. Have good days all. See you later x

Oh my goodness, excellent suggestions today - how will the NYM/L choose?! Too numerous to single anyone out but would particularly enjoy hearing Mr M announce a song by Kinky Friedman.

Ponyclubmum - ouch - poor Boris and what a difficult time for you, trying to keep him still. Hope all goes well for him - for how long will he be bandaged up?

Anyway, off to occupy the kitchen and liberate the sink....

#32 - Paul, thank you so much, that's really kind. I can now promise Mini Hoffs that his lunch won't be made from mashed potato and snot, as he was worried it would be!

I guess most songs by HMHB would do today, wouldn't they? Inspiration has not struck yet so I'll just say I like Paul's suggestions at #29! Tee he.

    Hello blogpoppets!

Apologies for absinthe - isn't it unfair when life gets in the way of blogging. I wasn't planning to choon choose today anyway, but would like to second Florence/Shona's MA BAKER and Bingo's MARTIKA'S KITCHEN.

I love GBBO - unfortunately I'm usually out on a Tuesday. I am already 2 weeks behind - hoping I can catch up before they get to the final. I'm not big on baking myself, but I think my apple and blackberry pie at the weekend would have impressed the judges... and no soggy bottom either...

#7 That is amazing! Especially as Chris is on holiday this week...

    ;o)

#19 I was asking after you 'elsewhere' Sal - lovely to see you pooping by!

#27 Sorry to hear about your poor puppy, ponyclubmum. Hope he makes a speedy recovery and is soon running around with his sisters again.

#29 I swear you make some of these up, Paul!
