Greetings from the coffee shop-coffee and porridge being taken. All traffic was demented this morning with drivers taking it in turn to be annoying. There's a rota somewhere. The haven of breakfast has been arrived at and everything is chipper. A morning screening of somethingorother and then I am on track.

And a top guest tonight. Howard Goodall is one of those effortlessly brilliant people that it is hard not to be in awe of. His history of music on BBC 2 has been wonderfully informative and compulsive viewing, even if you know you'll forget all the facts as soon as the show finishes. His musical 'The Hired Man' created with that other genius Melvyn Bragg, is on in Leicester and Colchester and he wants to tell you about it; it would be rude not to listen.

Having written the themes for Blackadder, QI, Mr Bean and The Vicar of Dibley, his next project is a musical version of Bend It Like Beckham! We did songs about singing for Gareth Malone so we'll just have to do HOWARD GOODALL oldies. That way you can choose all the music and song related tunes you could possibly fancy.

Have a toe-tapping and harmonious Tuesday. See you after 5.

Good cold and frosty morning again, gorgeous sunshine – loving it!

This is a difficult one, here are my obscurities:

VICAR IN A TUTU – The Smiths (for Vicar of Dibley)

ANYONE CAN MAKE A MISTAKE – The Wedding Present (for Mr Bean)

ENGLISH CIVIL WAR – The Clash (for the Comic Relief Blackadder special)

    I really am struggling here!

I’ll have another thunk (research!) and come back later, maybe much later!

Morning all. Beautiful night last night - full moon, starry largely cloudless sky and just a few clouds kissing the mountain tops. Sublime. Like my suggestion (!?!)

I write the songs - Barry Manilow

Perhaps in view of Mr. Goodall's rather dismissive attitude to the 12-tone musical system you should play one of the later works of Anton Webern - for example his "Three Little Pieces for Cello and Piano".

Widening out the scope a bit, given Mr Goodall's involvement in television, maybe

THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES ON TV - A-HA

Mandy, if you liked Tapestry, get a copy of the album of the same name. It is a real classic.

I haven't managed to see any of Howard Goodall's programme yet - but will catch up on the ithingy later. I do listen to him on *whispers* Classic FM though!

We saw a performance of the Hired Man by the National Youth Theatre a few years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Adding my vote for:

Morning Simon, team, NYM and demented bloggers,

Yep, I'll admit it, I had to look up Mr Goodall on Wikiwotsit. Had never heard of him (and sorry to say, still none the wiser). If my life depended on it, I would have said he was that bald football referee!

    Morning all

Had an interesting few days, as those that know me elsewhere can testify. Trip to A & E on Sunday morn with chest pains and breathing difficulties! All OK now.

Apparently just a mid life crisis my asthma is going through, according to the GP! But all hail the power of steroid inhalers, two doses and my chest is actually working more or less as intended, for the first time in about 10 days.

    Anyway on to HG oldies.

    Can I suggest

DOOBIE BROTHERS - LISTEN TO THE MUSIC
THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH - SONG FOR WHOEVER

    Cheers

    A
