Simon Mayo Simon Mayo Presenter

(Really? Where does this stuff come from?)
Those who might have guessed we're starting the AF with a track from 1963 would be spot on. Today we only have an hours worth because of the latest Minute by Minute project, taking in the assassination of JFK 50 years ago. I tend to feel extremely territorial about the show and hate to lose a second. But there is no arguing with the fact that Kennedy was shot at 6.30pm (our time) and so that's that. Also it is produced by my brother Jonathan and he'll hit me if I grumble too much. The line up is enormous with live music, actors, presenters and is taking up all of one our Maida Vale studios-it'll be epic.
I on the other hand have my regular small team who will sparkle and glitter in our brief moment, then retire to the bar muttering only quietly. So 1963 then. The Birds,Dr No and The Great Escape. She Loves You, Foot Tapper and  Louie Louie. And nursery school/primary school for your host, unaware of all of this of course. Big and 63 please.
Have a crisp and poised Friday, see you after 5

    Morning dear bloggers

Brief opportunity to blog so excuse chat mingled with arfo chasing.

Loved DT R2 stuff last night. Second programme much better than the first, slightly daft one. I'm still in love with DT & RTD. An adventure In Space and Time saved for the weekend. I like the interpretation that you can be an individual without being a misfit. I am just a tiny bit shorter than a dalek as it goes.

Was I missing something with the odd way Steven Moffat's surname was being pronounced?

Skip my posts this weekend if you can't be doing with Doctor Who or Borgen or the abyss or the importance of a key ....

1963 is a little before my time - I took a musical wander around the year last night; there is so much I’ve never heard before so sticking with stuff I know and like as usual - most are suitably short.

    LOUIE LOUIE - THE KINGSMEN

HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE - SWINGING BLUE JEANS

SHE LOVES YOU - THE BEATLES

(YOU’RE THE) DEVIL IN DISGUISE - ELVIS PRESLEY

I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND - THE BEATLES

CAN’T BUY ME LOVE - THE BEATLES

LOVE POTION #9 - THE SEARCHERS

Hello Simon and team. Interesting that Google has gone with 50 years of Dr Who.

As a highly srticulate and musically aware 2 year old (listening to the Light programme presumably?) my choons of 1963 are

Peter Paul & Mary Blowing In The Wind (how much a tune of its time)
The Four Seasons Walk Like A Man
The Crystals Then He Kissed Me
    Roy Orbison Blue Bayou
    Roy Orbison Falling
Dave Clark Five Glad All Over
    The Ronettes Be My Baby
Bobby Vee The Night Has A Thousand Eyes
The Beatles I Want To Hold Your Hand
The Crystals Da Doo Ron Ron just happy music - perfick for a fun Friday, methinks.

    # 5 - apologies for terrible inaccuracy in the song name (it's early and my brain is very mushy today). It should actually read:

Do Doo Ron Ron - The Crystals

I'm looking forward to the programme at 6.00 (even if it does take away an hour of DT). The 26th anniversary documentaries in 1988 are really what got in interested in US Politics 25 years ago - and now I teach the subject. (Although I was -10 in 1963, the fact that I'm remembering 25 years ago is making me feel very old!)
