Editor's note: in the video, Mr Mark Thomas explains why you might want to download a new Radio 4 comedy podcast - SB.

A new (free) Radio 4 comedy podcast is here to start your week with a laugh. So download it for free and it's yours to keep and listen to on the move.

So why have we done it this way? Our existing Friday Night Comedy podcast (featuring The News Quiz or The Now Show each week) is downloaded over a million times every month and consistently occupies one of the top slots in the iTunes podcast chart. Audience feedback has told us that you'd like more comedy to download.

For rights reasons, we're not able to offer all of our comedy for download. But we've reached an agreement to offer single episodes from a number of Radio 4 comedies. We trialled this service over the summer on the Friday Night podcast feed (while The Now Show and News Quiz were on their summer break) and it was well received. So here's your chance to download a wider selection of Radio 4's comedy and listen at your leisure.

Here's the schedule for the next few months:

  • 10 Jan: Mark Thomas: The Manifesto
  • 17 Jan: Ed Reardon's Week
  • 24 Jan: Rudy's Rare Records
  • 31 Jan: Showstoppers
  • 7 Feb: Tom Wrigglesworth's Open Letters
  • 14 Feb: Bleak Expectations
  • 21 Feb: It's Your Round
  • 28 Feb: Brian Gulliver's Travels
  • 7 Mar: I've Never Seen Star Wars
  • 14 Mar: It is Rocket Science
  • 21 Mar: Just A Minute
  • 28 Mar: The Simon Day Show

There's a video on this page, and we're apparently invited to watch it - but they're demanding a password.

I thought this was the BBC and it belonged to us?

    Not impressed.

    Hmm, no such problem here...

Great, and dead handy, but I would prefer full series rather than random picks.

Slightly tangential to this blog I admit but it is about podcasts and the only reason it's tangential is there has not been a blog on the Kings James Bible broadcasts which I had expected there to be.

So why where the podcasts for the three part Story of the King James Bible presented by James Naughtie not the full 45 minutes of the morning broadcast but only 30 minutes, the length of the evening repeat? The listen again broadcasts on the website are the full 45 minutes of the first .And why, when the three programmes where all available as podcasts is the Radio 4 Choice of the week the second episode? Surely a bit OTT when there where plenty of other deserving programmes last week to fill this slot.

Finally a question - I have several pertinent comments to make on podcasts but where? The ideal place would have been the 'Podcasts available for longer'of 4 November on the Radio Blog but circumstances meant I couldn't post at the time and it is now closed for comments (and even then I would have hesitated - do you still take note of postings to old blogs). So what to do?

Oh, and the Radio Blog. I came across it by happenchance. There's no link to it in More BBC blogs here on the Radio 4 blog. How is one logically supposed to find all blogs available?

Thank you BBC. I love the Friday night comedy podcast but don't have time to listen to the radio all the time for new comedy shows. This is a fantastic chance for me to try new shows. I hope there will then be a feedback opportunity where we can possibly decide which shows we liked best and maybe one or two might subsequently have a full series commissioned on podcasts. Good idea? by the way, at first listen last night, Mark Thomas' Manifesto was fantastic. Already the podcast has brought a smile to my bus journey.
