Hometown: The Lake Poets is songwriter Martin Longstaff, from Sunderland.

Style: On his own or beefed up with accompanying friends and instrumentalists, Martin produce delicate melodic tunes about life in the North-East slotting in perfectly alongside the other honest and emotional music makers from that area; Maxïmo Park and The Futureheads. April is a real heart-wrencher.

You need to know: Among his list of collaborators, Martin has worked with The Futureheads’ Barry Hyde and Mick Ross from Frankie & The Heartstrings.

Supported by: Nick Roberts from BBC Newcastle Introducing in the North East has long championed The Lake Poets, playing a number of their tracks in the past 18 months and nominating them for their appearance at T in the Park, which you can watch here.

Find out more: Get even more info on The Lake Poets on their official website. There’s info about gigs, links to videos and so, so much more.
