Tony O’Callaghan and Tessa Wyatt to guest star in EastEnders

Ello, ello, ello, what's going on 'ere then? We recognise this fella. It's Tony O'Callaghan, aka Sergeant Boyden from The Bill! It seems he’s been caught red handed... as Jean Slater's new love interest! It's about time she had some romance in her life and it seems that's exactly what she'll get in the form of fellow gardening enthusiast, Ollie Walters.

They meet in the less than romantic location of the allotment where, let it be said, that it's not exactly love at first sight. In fact, as their eyes meet over an overgrown cabbage patch, they get off to a rather rocky start. However love soon blossoms like a weeds taking over a flowerbed. Has Jean found her happy ever after or is it a disaster waiting to happen?

Tony commented: "I am very excited to be joining a show with as much prestige as EastEnders and I'm looking forward to portraying the nice side and humour of Ollie."

And Jean's not the only one hooking up in The Square. Cora finds herself quick-stepped out the way by Patrick’s new dance partner and companion, Betty, played by Tessa Wyatt. You may recognise Tessa from programmes such as Robin's Nest, Casualty, Peep Show and Doctors.

It seems whilst Cora's been focusing on her family problems, Patrick's been feeling neglected. Not one to sit around feeling sorry for himself (except when he's had a nasty fall and quickly hones his bell-ringing technique!) he seeks out some fun and laughter in the shape of Betty. Needless to say Cora and Betty immediately lock horns, forcing Patrick to choose between the two women in his life. Who will he choose?

Ollie and Betty will be arriving in Walford in early June.

ABOUT TIME EASTENDERS - Finally Jean is going to get a partner I think this is great news .If I am right I don't think Jean has ever had a proper partner on the show and will be good to see her character develop more and have her own storylines with her partner and not scenes in the Vic all the time and just being in the background of storylines all the time .Ive had my own idea for a while now that Jean meets a partner they live happy for a few years and get maried but her partner has kept a secret that he is really ill and dying then on there wedding day after they tie the knot and walk out of the church and everybody is throwing confetti he drops down dead Jean is over his body crying with the music time to say goodbye playing .Anybody else think this is a good storyline ???. I think Betty is probably another pointless character added to the show but were see.

Pleased about the introduction of new mature characters ; there needs to be a balance of young and old characters like there was in classic EastEnders. Pleased Jean is getting a solo storyline ; she is usually more of a secondary character. So under used considering Gillian Wright's talents as an actress. I think the point of Betty is to test Patrick and Cora's relationship. Of course Patrick will choose Cora and the couple will be stronger for it.

Jean has always been an unlucky character and I can't see that changing. Hope she will be happy with Ollie (Sergeant Boyden). I've also got a feeling Peter is going to turn out to be gay, since they don't have any gay characters after Syed and Christian left.... they recently brought back Dan and he's gay, maybe him and Peter.... Its miracle how Sharon suddenly kicked her habit and not gone cold turkey. I can't believe Max hasn't suspected anything about Kirsty since her belly is flat as a pancake and supposed to be 5 or 6 months preggers, u think he'd be feeling her belly in bed. Anyway hey ho its only a soap.
