Scary Mary
Thanks all for your comments, let's get as many of us as possible blogging!
So...hands up who was scared to play in front of Ilan? I think Louise did an absolutely fantastic job; I can't think of two people for whom I would find it more scary to play for than my mother and Ilan Volkov! Anyway Ilan was very impressed with us and is looking forward to the gig, and in reply to Allison....so is Jeremy Bushell!! It's a fantastic opportunity for us to perform with a professional soloist, but I also think Jeremy should feel very privileged to play with the most enthusiastic and sociable orchestra in the land!
I skived early from the pub so see a certain sociable trombonist for all the news....
I'll only be popping in briefly this week as I'm doing my real job looking after the SSO!
Ciao amici, Sally :)

I doubt Ilan would have been able to hear me, as very few notes emanated from my instrument whilst he was in the room. Mind you, that's probably preferable to the squeaks I produced for Yann at the Play It Again day. Perhaps we should start to rehearse the theme tune for Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell Of Fear?
I think I'll go and practice now and, maybe, when I'm next on here, there'll be a note from a sociable trombonist.
Just one cornet(to), or should that be trumpet?

I agree with Sally, the soloists are very lucky to play with us! Yes playing for Ilan was a tad scary, but one just had to "go for it". I went for it and completley "blew it"! Literally.
Louise was amazing, but then she is amazing every week!
Allison... I'm surprised, nay shocked, that you think the brass section are too loud( tongue stuck firmly in cheek) Were you not listening? There was a few beautifully played bars in the Strauss. We WERE piano darling.
We'll play them louder next week so you can here them...
This is my first blog in response to peer pressure, all right Karen?
See you all Tuesday with anticipation.

The SSO players who come and play with us get a bit of an education in inventive intonation, a bit of a headache if they sit too close to the brass and a drink bought for them if they come to the pub afterwards. You can't ask for more really. I don't think there can be a friendlier, less intimidating or more encouraging orchestra in the land.
I would never, ever suggest that our brass section plays too loudly. On the contrary, they are the salt of the earth, and piano is their middle name. I think they are just great and the cello section can hear them just fine. You're doing a grand job up the back there! Please don't blow any harder!
I was wondering what we are going to get to play next session. Louise's choice of music so far has been great. Do you think she would take requests? What would you all like to play? On second thoughts, I am not sure about the wisdom of taking the orchestra's opinion into account-Louise having admitted once she is scared of the brass section, we might end up doing nothing but trumpet concertos!
See you Tues.
Allison
