Autumnwatch website: how did it do?
Just like on the programme itself, on this year's Autumnwatch website we've been able to follow the whole season from start to finish. How do you think it's worked? What new features could we bring in? What should we do more of? What should we do less of? Which areas did you like the most?
On our webcams, we've witnessed the drama of the red deer rut and enjoyed the mellower sights from Somerset woodland. Your autumn photos have inspired us all, the messageboard and blog have thrown up many fascinating questions and we've seen highly unusual animal behaviour captured on camera in Your Movies.
Get posting below. We'd love to hear from you.
(PS Are you on the right blog post? If you want to tell us about what you think of this year's Autumnwatch, please post your comments here. For your views on Unsprung please post here. If you have thoughts and ideas about Springwatch 2010, please post them here.)

Website has been great and I loved the woodland webcams in the last week but PLEASE do put up the answers for the bird identification quiz, I must have missed it on the TV programme!

Loved the website and I am so glad its staying up through till Spring!
If this relates to the messageboard as well, please may you try to pop a search function in? Its something that people have been asking about for a long time!
Also another point about the messageboard, the 3 minute rule! It may be good at keeping spammers away, but it gets so frustrating, especially when the conversations move so quickly and cover so much and your left stuck with ideas from the last page!
Loved the interactivity this year, it was brilliant, even more viewers clips on the website, and maybe a photograph section, although maybe thats not needed because of the flickr site.

Love the website - it's been great in between programmes to learn more and find out about what's going on where I live. I've particularly enjoyed the many opportunities to get involved - the Flickr stream encouraged me to head out with my camera to I could contribute! Thank you.

generally very good, but if you have quizes please remember to put the answers up on the website as well as on the programme, they were probably meant to go on unsprung but martin, bless him, does bumble along and things enevitably drop off the show.
Also maybe a dedicated blog page for questions about the previous shows subjects as well as the message boards, makes it much easier to post questions in the relivant topic and maybe for other people to post answers.

Well done to the whole AW team for a terrific series.
I think the weekly programmes really work for Autumn and the range and amount of wildlife covered in this series was fantastic.
In particular I was blown away by Gordon Buchanan's footage of Killer Whales at sea, and having daily updates of his exploits on the Blogs gave a really interesting insight to this porcess.
I also really enjoyed the webcam coverage of the red deer rut on Rum and the woodland scene near Bristol. However there was a big gap between the two and I think with a little more advance planning this could be improved to provide coverage of various other wildlife settings throughout the series.
I also agree with some of the comments made elsewhere on the blogs such as allowing a report to be run in its entirety, rather than breaking it up into pieces by cutting back to the presenters several times.
Also I would encourage you to be brave and allow the wildlife to speak for itself sometimes by including a bit more time without commentary. When this was done in the reports about the Knot and the Rooks for example it was very effective.

I agree on the three minute rule too - especially as I have had to post from an internet cafe the past few days - those three minutes each time!! Regarding the meesageboard in general I think that there needs to be some kind of way of dealing with troll threads. At present you just complain about one post, but if a thread gets out of hand, such as the Evolution thread where bullies from another totally unconnected site seem to have come here to bully others who disagree with them. Although I myself felt angry and posted a couple of angry comments it was in sheer annoyance at the time because this stuff shouldn't have been there.
Apart from all that - no other probs!!

@alice we are making changes to the messageboard but I think a search facility is, sadly, a while off.
@hypertrashie are these the answers to the quiz you're talking about? http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/autumnwatch/2009/11/guess_the_birds_answers.html
@armadilloslim point taken. We will try harder. Good idea about the dedicated blog page.
@Andrew Thompson We would have loved to have done more webcams. Doing them like this was a first for us and we will be looking at ways to extend them. It is very difficult to get the right behaviour to make them worthwhile in the autumn though.
@Foxman62 we're always trying to make hosting better so this is very helpful.
Thanks all!

The web site has once again gotten better. And that was hard to do!
Wonderful that we can share photos and videos now. Things are getting a bit muddled though supporting the messageboard, blog and twitter.
Would better to consolidate into one thing. That would be better for us and less work for you. For example, with a better messageboard you would not need the blogs.
The constant information and feedback is very much appreciated. It creates a true connection between the BBC and us viewers.
Keep up the good work!

Hi there,
I love the "Meet the animals section". Would it be possible to add the scientific classification (Latin genus and species) to each animal's description? It would make translating the numerous and sometimes confusing common names into other languages much easier. The website's readers could use the Latin names to find out the common names in their own languages.
I'm sure your resident geek will like this idea!
Not that I know all the differences between "pinson" (French for chaffinch) and "verdier" (French for green finch) but still...

As Aw/SW is viewed by so many fans outside of the UK would it be possible to allow them to include their pictures on your flickr site? Currently is states only UK photos permitted.

I loved the Autumnwatch format but hated that the broadcast came from indoors - it completely lost the natural the feel, ecxitement and sense of immediacy of the previous outdoor programmes.

Hi everyone
Thanks for your comments.
natureDeirdre: Autumnwatch and Springwatch are about nature in the UK and you can't watch either from outside of the UK.
Becky: The late showing meant that it was too dark (and cold!) to be outside for much of Autumnwatch. Here's looking forward to the later sunsets of Spring!
Sam :)
