#2 looks like a damsel fly to me.
On the subject of eyes...
I've noticed that the eyes of red deer rotate to keep their pupils horizontal when the head is up (watching) or down (grazing). This makes perfect sense (it allows the animal to keep it's view of the surroundings correctly orientated at all times) and is a great adaption. I've not been able to find any more info on this ability, is it a standard 'feature' for all grazers?

Dear AutumnWatch team.
On a caravan site in Snettisham (about 10 minutes walk from the bird hides where Chris and Kate were last week) we have a pond/lake and on that lake we have a pair of Egyptian Geese. They are not ringed or clipped and nobody has reported to have lost them. Where have they come from and what are they doing here?
Thanks.

It makes me laugh and i think bringing the animals on is really intresting! Keep up the good work

I have recently moved to a country location and have got into watching the different birds that visit my garden. Yesterday i noticed a large rat on my fat balls and i haven't seen any birds on them today. Does the rat spell doom? Can anyone give me any advice?

Could you please help us understand why we have no birds around. We have always fed the birds and have had blue tits nest in our garden every year as well as having a robin nest in the greenhouse. Blackbirds nest just at the back of the fence among shrubs and trees every year, we are so used to having lots of birds in the garden and around the field at the back of the house and also among trees on a green across the road but there have been no birds at all for a while now. Its so quiet, no sight or sound of any birds at all. We live in York and your comments would be appreciated.
Thank you. Pam.

Attn Chris and the crew
Subject Menacing Magpies...
We have a problem in Suffolk,Magpies are taking over our area.In Spring
they eat our songbird's eggs. They have been seen eating chicks too.
What can be done. The RSPB and Suffolk Wildlife Trust (SWT) deny Magpies are a problem. They say they dont have much effect on songbird population.
In the 1970's you rarely saw any Magpies in Suffolk, now they are as common as Seagulls.
We need a cull of Magpies.Whilst everyone is feeding and putting out bird boxes etc..for our threatened songbirds,
all of our good work in Spring is being undone due to menacing Magpies.
Lets get this done before next Spring.Nobody likes the thought of killing any bird, but it is a fact.It is vital that something is done before its too late.
My friend who is a member of the SWT,has written and complained directly to the leaders of the SWT.However, all our requests have been ignored.
Give us your opinion.

Chris was discussing the decline in kestrel numbers a couple of shows ago. I have been birdwatching for over 20 years and observed some behaviour by these birds i have never seen before. two male kestrels attempting to bring a large rabbit down, unsuccesfully of course but fascinating nonetheless. Have you seen this type of behaviour, or indeed two male kestrels hunting in such short proximity? Gordon Hamilton

Is counting the rings on a dead tree trunk to tell the age of the tree a myth? Or is this accurate? If so why?

Questions for Chris: I keep having birds in my garden suffering from trichomoniasis. This not only affects pigeons but also greenfinches, chaffinches, sparrows and others. I have successfully treated pigeons but failed with small birds. Ihave followed RSPB advice and stop feeding for two weeks, keep feeders clean but every year it comes back. Should I stop feeding altogether?
Also, how do birds such as albatros or swifts, that go long periods wirthout landing preen and oil their feathers?

Hi team! Loving the show!
I have a slightly random, bizarre skill.... I can 'talk' to tawnys! I can mimic the call of a female tawny and they talk back - often coming really close or following me for over a mile if I'm walking! I've 'chatted' lots to tawnys in Betws-y-coed, Snowdonia and in Walsall, West Mids (where I now live) but the tawnys in Norfolk never seemed that interested.
Do owls in different areas have different accents?!! (strange question, I know!)
Thankyou, lou xx
p.s. I can do the same with foxes too! Am I strange?!!! ;-)

Hello. I love Autumn Watch, I think it is a fantastic show with so much interesting information.
I would like to ask how the presenters started off in their careers? They know so much!
Well done for producing such a great programme!

Dear, AutmnWatch. Do any of you know how the table soccer game 'subuteo' got its name?
If not, the answer is: after the Latin name, 'for the hobby', which is 'Falco Subuteo'.
I also did everything you suggested on Springwatch to attract more bee's into your garden. Only to be stung by one. Yeah, £20 for a jar of honey.
My dad also went to school the same time as 'Kate Humble', quarter to nine.

Hello folks
Don't know if I'm doing this right ... only set up a BBC id to ask one question ... why did Chris have Adam Ant on his 'cue cards'?
Hope I've done this right - it's taken me all of Unsprung to register, log on and find the right (I hope) link.

A little bird told me (No pun intended) that Jonathan Huet is guest starring on this year's Autumnwatch, I was just wondering whether he Had already been on or is this feature still to come, as I did one of his workshops at Quest back in July on the Celtic Tree Ogham (including some stories on it) and was wondering what was happening at the Monkton Wyld Court third family bushcraft week.
