The Open House Festival have confirmed there will be no full weekend programme this year due to the current "harsh economy" and "incresed competition for headliners". The festival which usually takes place annually in the Cathedral Quarters, Belfast has hosted the likes of Wilco, Fleet Foxes, Mumford & Sons and Seasick Steve in previous years. This year would have been the 14th year of the festival.

In a statment online, Festival Director Kieran Gilmore wrote, " there will be no Open House shows on Custom House Square this year, nor a 2012 ChilliFest. That’s no marquee, no open air gigs and no hot chilli pepper eating competition"..."The bands we know you want are simply not available to us for a summer festival or the fees being sought are out of our reach and would make ticket prices out of your reach.".

However, the Open House team plan to continue bringing acts to Belfast throughout the year and a return for the festival in 2013. Acts already booked for shows this year include Bob Log III, The Low Anthem, Josh T. Pearson, The Civil Wars, Fixers and Lucy Rose. for more information visit www.openhousefestival.com.
