Next Stage, 6.10pm
Wednesday the 24th of August 2011

Describe in a Tweet: Not too cuddly, not too grizzly, just right

Eatenbybears

What Happened: Eatenbybears play a type of “scattergun” rock, running the gamut from metal to math to post and everything in-between, whilst not forgetting to just rock out from time to time. The un-typical use of violin with effects, integral to the songs rather than token extraneous strings, adds something different to it. With this being their mainstream festival debut, their enthusiasm is infectious as they seem to be enjoying this rather than it being just another gig. ‘Duschenne Smile’ epitomises their passion and drive, bludgeoning, but intricate, while ‘Spite Houses’ starts off with a teasing bit of Eminem before going off into a math-rock direction, mirroring the change in the weather as it clouds over.

Lose Yourself: Despite their inexperience, they take to it like veterans.

Guilty Conscience: They may lose this charming naivety as they’ll soon know what festival stages are like.

Rating: 8/10
