Katy B
Supporting Plan B
Thursday 25th August 2011

Describe in a tweet: Play the hits!

What happened: It's both impressive and suspicious that a lady most of us hadn't heard of this time last year has so many instantly recognisable tunes. Has she been playing them to us while we sleep, or what? 'Broken Record' is dismissed two tracks in, the excellent 'Easy Please Me', 'Perfect Stranger' and crowd-baiting 'Katy on a Mission' follow soon after - each of these tunes seem almost too familiar. The full live band (and brass section) is enough to freshen them up, with Katy herself sufficiently endearing to keep us on her side.

Plan A: It's to the band's extreme credit they can move from indie to dustup to Dn'B in a matter of moments. This is all over the place, but in a good way.

Plan B: Hard to explain why, given we're presented with so many hits and a likeable front woman, it just doesn't spark up or kick off, much. Familiarity maybe breeds a tiny dash of contempt.

Rating: 7/10
