Oxegen 2011 - Fun Lovin' Criminals

Post categories:

ATL | 15:44 UK time, Friday, 8 July 2011

Main stage, Friday, 2pm

Describe in a Tweet: Oldies look/sound young.

What happened: Given the last time they had a 'hit' Oxegen didn't even exist, this wasn't necessarily the best way to open the festival. But it works an absolute treat, from the very moment we see fashionable gangsta' Huey Morgan's cream suit and enormous purple shirt collar. Those songs, while a little dusty, still work a crowd - 'Love Unlimited' (the tribute to Barry White) is as daft as it is lush, 'Big Night Out' as sleazy as it was back in the day.

Crazy In Love: 'Scooby Snacks' is the first 'moment' of the weekend and we've only been open for business about twelve minutes. A proper bounce and sing-along, possibly because it's the only FLC song the average Oxegen punter has ever heard.

Why Don't You Love Me: It's raining, the sound is a little muddy and it takes a while to get a vaguely respectable crowd, but FLC are definitely on our side.

Oxegen rating: 7/10
