Love Music? Love Art?
Design a piece of album artwork that includes a portrait of some kind, for one of three unsigned bands we are featuring (Ed Sheeran, Rizzle Kicks and El Policia) by 8th February 2010.
The prize:
Six winners will be selected to attend a two-day masterclass in March where they will work alongside leading artists, photographers and music industry professionals to create brand-new publicity artwork for Paloma Faith.
What you need to do:
Take a look at the profiles of our 3 bands:
Then, download a resource pack which contains images of the bands that you are free to use and a blank template.
We want you to create an album cover for one of those three unsigned bands. Your design must include a portrait of some kind, either of the band themselves or a person who you think represents the band's personality and musical style.
Other than including an element of portraiture and using the blank template, you have complete freedom in materials you use, and what you do. You could paint, draw, digitally manipulate the images or create a collage for your design. It is totally up to you, but it must reflect the personality of the band you have chosen.
We will be judging your entries on:
- Originality and imaginative flair
- How your entry uses portraiture to reflect the personality of the band and their music
- Your artistic thought process in the explanation you provide alongside your design
You will need to tell us about your design in no more than 200 words and add it to the description section when you upload your design to the site.
Think about the following when writing your description:
- Why did you choose this band and how does your design show this act's musical style and identity?
- Why did you choose this art form? eg. painting, collage, photography, mixed media?
- Explain how you've used portraiture in your design
- If you have taken your own photographs, please tell us the names and ages of the people in the pictures
Please make sure you read the terms and conditions before entering. If you plan to use a photograph of yourself or anyone else you will need permission first. DO read the terms and conditions to check that you have the correct consent.
How to enter:
- Take a picture of your design and save it as a jpg
- Upload your entry along with your description to BBC Blast and tag it 'portrait09'
