      Hi again Rachel!

This seems like quite a challenging song to sing and you pull it off really well! Which leads me to ask... if people want to learn to sing great versions of famous songs (like you do!), what do you think they can do to get started?

      Rachel's other performances are here:

Hi Rachel - I know exactly how hard this song is to sing as it was the first song I ever sang in a foreign language! The original Piaf version is so full of those gutteral Parisian rolled 'r's and the song is almost spat out, but that doesn't neccessarily mean that you have to do the same - I like that you've sung it quite straight, giving it your own touch.

I'm curious as to why you chose this piece - it's very obscure these days (though it's actually my all-time fave Piaf song)

There are a couple of points here where you leave the original tune, but I think this is an accompaniment thing - if you can find an accompaniment, then you'll have no trouble staying with this fiendish tune.

What made you decide to sing in French, and how did you go about chosing this one? Do you listen to a lot of French srtists?

If you'd like to chat about singing in other languages - or anything else for that matter, you can find us on the music message board.

May I just say again - TOP CHOICE!

Thank you once again for your comments. I chose this song after seeing it performed in the film 'The History Boys'. I learnt the song by listening to a version of it whihlst reading through the lyrics online. I actually know very little French!

Thank you for the comments. I actually know very litte French and so in order to learn this song (and any song really) I always listen to the song whilst reading through the lyrics at the same time. I love this song and actually decided to sing it after hearing a version of it in 'The History Boys'.
