Cinder Bank Island- Theme: Industrial Heritage

At Cinder Bank, Dudley's proud industrial achievement is celebrated in heroic Russian style. A dignified 'heroic worker' is the focal point of a composition. The symbol is for all the workers in the past who created Dudley's wealth. Three gigantic steel cut out silhouette wedges represent three aspects of the industry:

  • The annealing of a glass vessel
  • Chainmaking
  • Mineworking ( The wheels of pit headgear)

The arched openings in the wedges also allude to the pillars of the Seven Sisters Caverns of the nearby Wren's Nest Geological Reserve. Whilst the colour of each wedge changes slightly to subtly recall the cooling or heating of metals.

A 6m tower reaches far into the sky as a literal depiction of the 'Fire of Industry'

The sculptures were designed by Philip Bews and Diane Gorvin.
