Dudley Council have given the go ahead for the £6.8 million scheme which will see a huge revamp of the existing bus terminal.

Transport company Centro have designed the futuristic facility, which will be known simply as the 'Stourbridge Interchange'.

The new plans include a landmark canopy focal point and a new covered walkway which will link the existing subway from Foster Street to the main facilities building.

A modern and spacious facilities building and concourse will include toilets, a retail unit and electronic passenger information boards.

There will be eight bus stands with high quality waiting areas and an additional bus stop on Vauxhall Road allowing for easy interchange between bus and rail.

Throughout the new Interchange there will also be CCTV, help points and a public address system.

Councillor Angus Adams, Dudley cabinet Member for Transport and Lead Member for Dudley at Centro, said:

"I'm absolutely delighted with the plans. It's going to be a futuristic, well thought out interchange that will incorporate the town station by opening up the space in between.

"They'll be major alterations under the subway that will improve walking to the bus station. This interchange will be the forerunner for what bus stations of the future will be like."

Another white elephant! We are told that the new "Interchange" will have 8 stands. The present one has eleven, and is constantly jammed up. How are they going to get them all in? And where do we catch buses from while the work is in progress?

ellie clark
i think this will look amazing and it will be great when its finished but the disruption it will cause could be a great annoyance to people like me who travel to and from work via this bus station every day.

CHRIS
ITS A BIT POSH FOR STOURBRIDGE I THINK SHOULD BE DUDLEY!!

Terry
This is just what Stourbride needs. CAB, where do you sugges people go to the toilet?

Alex
It will be a geat addition to Stourbridge. As for CAB saying that we better not have loos at all....... what are you on about?? What do you want people to do, use the street or go behind a skip?

Fran Tatler
I think its about time money was spent on the bus shelter. the area at the moment looks tired and dated. the new potential development looks brilliant!

CAB
'Futuristic' is all very well, but will people feel safe there; will graffiti, litter and gum be cleared quickly; as sometimes happens at Dudley and Woverhampton stations? Loos are often a focus for antisocial behaviour; have the toilets been designed here to discourage it? Will the planted areas be well maintained? Otherwise, better not to have them at all. People won't switch from cars to buses unless bus facilities are well and regularly maintained.
