Public Gallery needs your dogHas your pooch got movie star good looks? Public Gallery is looking for 96 model dogs to be photographed for an exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist Shari Hatt. Public Gallery in West Bromwich, one of Britain’s largest and most ambitious cultural projects, is currently recruiting UK-based dogs to take part in a forthcoming exhibition by internationally acclaimed artist, Shari Hatt. ![]() This chap is from Wolverhampton Animal attractionShari Hatt takes unusual portrait images of dogs that manage to 'seduce us with our own love of dogs'. The Canadian born, award winning photographic artist has an uncommon rapport with animals, dogs in particular and this rare partnership is evident in the resulting images. Although Hatt, a self-described lover of kitsch has previously explored a wide range of cultural figures such as Elvis and Liberace, she is more widely known for her inimitable dog portraits. ![]() Yepa Importantly, the exhibition is accompanied by a working ‘Dog Portrait Studio’ and the gallery team and artist will be recruiting 96 canine subjects locally, regionally and nationally to be photographed on-site in West Bromwich throughout December 2008. Owners will receive a copy of the portrait, and a selection from the overall studio will appear in the exhibition next year. ![]() Connie Dog Portrait StudioShari’s exhibitions receive critical acclaim and Shari’s supporters include fashion designer Alexander McQueen, author Douglas Coupland and also members of the Royal Family. The Dog Portrait Studio in West Bromwich this December is a rare opportunity for UK dog owners to acquire a highly-personalised original artwork. The artist’s fee for a private commission ranges between £1,500 and £3,000. As a selection of these 96 portraits will form part of a new exhibition at Public Gallery next year, the cost for each portrait has been greatly reduced to £50. The artist and gallery team are looking for a wide selection of diverse breeds and pedigrees, and owners of the selected dogs will receive a life-size colour photograph. ![]() Percy How to applyThe Dog Portrait Studio takes place in West Bromwich from 2-14 December 2008.
