While floating on a glam-rock themed narrowboat from the NIA to the Mailbox, the popular entertainer and former Slade singer was presented with his Walk of Stars star by the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Randal Brew.

Thousands of people packed into Brindleyplace and gathered along the canal to catch a glimpse of Noddy and to watch the annual parade of boats. The crowds cheered and applauded when the Lord Mayor made the presentation.

"I declare today, Sunday 9th December, Noddy Holder Day in Birmingham" said Cllr Randal Brew, who travelled with Noddy on the narrowboat.

Walsall-born Noddy is the third Midlander to be awarded a Broad Street star. Ozzy Osbourne and Jasper Carrott have already been honoured.

When asked how he felt about his star, Noddy said:

"I love it. I grew up around here. This is my old stomping ground."

Then Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody blared out of the speakers and the band's ex-singer floated away, shouting "Merry Christmas everybody".

Fireworks lit up the night sky.
