Introducing

The first ever BBC WM Introducing gig took place at The Robin 2 in Bilston on Tuesday 6th November 2007.

Funky rockers The Fake Tracies, Birmingham indie band Page 44 and Wolverhampton's own alternative group Pris each performed a full set before an enthusiastic crowd of fans, friends and family.

BBC WM Introducing's Brett Birks introduced each band to the audience and was delighted with the evening.

Speaking to the live crowd Brett said:

"Thank you all so much for coming and supporting the local music scene. We always knew what a vibrant area this was for young up-and-coming talent but I think even we were surprised at just how good some of the new bands are.

"BBC WM Introducing is a still a new show but we are making huge strides. We aim to bring you the very best new music each and every week

"As we all know unfortunately it's often not the most talented bands that make it or even the best ones. Often it's the ones who were heard by the right person at the right time. We hope we can act as a platform for all the local talent to be heard and get their voices out there. This is your show and thank you for supporting us.

"And if any of you are signed, I'll be taking full credit for it!"

Excerpts of the night's performances will air on BBC WM Introducing on Thursday 15th November 2007 and will also be available on this page.

The five piece funk-rock band are one of the most requested groups to have been played on BBC WM Introducing.

"On one show we asked for texts in from listeners telling us who they'd like to hear," said presenter Louise Brierley.

"We were bombarded with messages about The Fake Tracies. And it carried on the next week, then the week after. In the end we booked them in for a live session to get some peace!"

Forming in 2002, The Fake Tracies originally began playing covers of modern indie and rock bands before producing their own material.

"Our music is hard to describe as it's constantly evolving,"  they say. "But we'd liken ourselves to The Strokes crossed with Franz Ferdinand with a sprinkling of Stone Roses-esque guitar."

They're rapidly building momentum on the unsigned circuit, having recently headlined at Revolution in Wolverhampton as part of Oxjam.

The Fake Tracies are: John Davis - vocals; Lee Barber - lead guitar; Gav Ruston - guitar; Joe Davis - drums; John Wilkes - bass guitar

The Fake Tracies will be playing live in session on BBC WM Introducing on Thursday 6th December 2007.

Pure thunderpop, Page44 describe their live performances as 'like being hit by an atomic bomb.'

Young and loud, the four piece group from Redditch and Birmingham have been permanent fixtures on myspace's Genoma Unsigned Chart since its inception and boast over 200,000 hits on their myspace page alone.

Winners of the recent unsigned competition at the Carling Academy in Birmingham and with gigs booked as far away as Cornwall and Leicester before Christams, Page44 are tipped to become tomorrow's superstars.

Pris

"A rag tag bunch of unassuming oddballs with a surprising and refreshing sound."

So say Pris when asked to describe themselves.

The four lads will be playing on the outskirts of their hometown of Wolverhampton when they hit the Robin 2 on 6th November.

Formerly known as The Whispering, the lads reinvented themselves in 2006 as Pris. Their tracks Lunar Polar and Stay With Me are frequently requested on BBC WM Introducing.

It's early days for the indie rockers, but their unique sound, confident performances and growing fan base make it very likely you'll be hearing a lot more of them in the future.

Pris are: Greg Asbury - lead vocals and keyboards; Steve Northwood - lead guitar & backing vocals; Graham Richards - bass guitar
