Fancy the Bescot tonight Kylie?

Three For The Weekend

by Mike Sadler
There's Kylie, Britney and Justin; there's Ripchord and Metro Riots; you've guessed it. Three For The Weekend Time.

Exhibition: Kylie, Britney, Justin and Me. To 31 Jan, 2006.

I don’t suppose it’d be a good idea to start poking fun at such a mega icon as Kylie. Or even any of the others, whoever they are. “Just play it straight with this one,” said the boss.

Get yourself down to Lichfield Street if you’re after a behind the scenes peek at how you rise from life in the shadow of the Bescot to chief of the biggest selling record company in the world, as Steve Jenkins did.

You never know, you might bump into somebody you know. After all, Britney's still unemployed - isn't she?

Tel: 01922 653116. Walsall Museum, Lichfield St, Walsall.

Gig: Ripchord. Little Civic, Wolves. 01902 552 121

This Midlands band are getting to be old hands at the Little Civic in 2006. Well known – but well loved?

We shall see. As they say, you’re only as good as your last gig. Or in the words of Pete Doherty, gig you’re last your good as as only. Geezer.

If this lot tickle your fancy, you probably know already they’ve supported the likes of The Paddingtons and The Kooks in the not so dim and distant past. Must have something.

Sat 29/7/2006. £4. Doors open 7.30pm. 01902 552 121

Gig: Metro Riots. Little Civic, Wolves.

Must finish with, arguably, the gig of the weekend. You may well have caught this lot supporting Dirty Pretty Things back in May at the Wulfrun.

They certainly love it. You know, that unkempt, Brian Blessed beardo look.
Seems there’s a market for it too.

One reviewer got carried away to the point of “wonderfully heavy Zeppelin style guitar riffs” love. Nuff said, methinks. Unless you don’t like Zeppelin, then you’re on your own. In which case, good luck.

Sun 30/7/2006. £5. Doors open 7.30pm.
