Wolverhampton City Show 2006

Up to 70,000 people attended the Wolverhampton City Show, at West Park, on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th of July 2006. Ciarán Ryan went along on Saturday afternoon.

Dr Read, Chief Regeneration & Transportation Officer

Also inside the 'One City' tent was Malcolm Read, Wolverhampton City Council's Chief Regeneration and Transportation Officer. He'd spent Saturday at his stall, talking to people about the City Council's plans for Wolverhampton.

On his day at the Show, Malcolm said:

"There's been a lot of interest. People are delighted at the fact that we are changing the city centre - which will give them opportunities and hope for the future. Because the jobs will be there and the housing will be there, the education will be
there - we want people to feel proud of Wolverhampton."

Mayor Councillor John L G. Davis

The Mayor of Wolverhampton is Councillor John L G. Davis. I met him near the main arena, he was signing autographs for children. He said:

"We've been on duty - well it's not really a duty, it's a pleasure to be out talking to people, since about half past ten this morning. We went to see the advanced motorists - and then we've been walking around all the tents and all around the displays. We've been looked after and talked to - it's been fantastic, and it's a lovely setting, too.

"We're hoping to see the Black Knights coming down, now."

Soon after, the Royal Artillery Parachute Display Team (The Black Knights) fell from the sky and glided into the main arena to cheers and applause. Show's over 'til tomorrow.
