Every Saturday night between 10pm and 11pm Loyd will be chatting to the cream of the West Midlands creative talent about their life, work and where they'd normally be on a Saturday night out. Once a month he'll also be featuring a guest presenter from the local arts and entertainment scene. There’s a higher than normal dose of music for WM, with the odd 'back in the day' hidden gem and a fair dosage of party inspired music of black origin. Keeping a close eye on what’s hot and what most definitely is not - is the show's roving reporter Deenah, who you'll find out and about, checking out the latest performances, gigs and exhibitions. Who’s Loyd Williams?
Loyd was lured to the West Midlands from Burnham-On-Sea in Sommerset to kick start a career initially as a freelance choreographer for UK agencies, theatre and independent TV companies, which led to a spell at Citv leading dance drama work shops with their stable of child actors. Wanting to diversify his talents, he and two friends started up a small TV production company selling black music led documentaries, using local and celebrity talent to the BBC, Channel 4 and ITV, which he juggled alongside shifts working for Galaxy radio in promotions and research. Now you’ll find Loyd out and about for BBC WM – he’s in the news car reporting into various shows, always arts and entertainment related and always loud and lively, from exhibitions, gigs and the like. He also profiles the work of grass roots to celebrity artists, in his role as Roots Project Co-ordinator (a partnership project with the arts council and the BBC to get more arts and entertainment locally onto the BBC). Loyd’s now got his own show on BBC WM - The Loyd Williams Show, every Saturday from 10pm-11pm. Roots Roots is a partnership with Arts Council England and the BBC, aimed at increasing African, Asian, Caribbean and Chinese cultural coverage on the radio, television and online. As well as researching, producing and recording creative programmes, the co-ordinators (Loyd being one of them) have stimulated new work by encouraging and promoting arts activities. The co-ordinators have forged new partnerships with arts organisations, communities and the Arts Council and the BBC, providing a unique broadcast opportunity for new talent, which has also introduced new viewers and listeners to culturally diverse arts. Diane is one artist who was assisted by the Roots project - read more about her by clicking the link below. Get in touch If you want to get in touch with Loyd; - or call him direct on 0121 567 6039
