On a cold, rainy Thursday night, this gig brought fire and vision into the heart of town. If you associate small-venue gigs in Wolverhampton with flying hair and bad Judas Priest impressions, think again.

Folk-blues vocalist Paul Murphy has done a bit of travelling in his thirty years as a musician, and life on the road was a recurrent theme in a short but powerful set that included Van Morrison and Bob Dylan songs, along with Paul’s unique brand of part-improvised talking blues. Gojo' Music are now a four-piece band, and their technical and lyrical range has expanded rapidly in recent months.

Their tightly controlled and emotionally intense set included elements of garage rock, blues, soul and reggae. 'Give Justice to the People' was a stirring call to arms. 'How the West Was Won' moved the audience's conscience with its angry words and their feet with its deep, insistent riffs. New song 'Get Me On the Bus to Betterville' was a cry from the heart, bleak and inspiring at the same time.
