Urotsukidoji IV return

Ellis, vocals and guitar with Wolverhampton based band Urotsukidoji IV answers a few quick questions.

Hello Ellis, what are we going to talk about?

I’m talking to you to promote my band Urotsukidoji IV (UIV for short) – it means Wandering Child. The name’s connected with the idea of searching for something, probably searching for truth.

In the band there’s Jamie on vocals and guitar, myself Ellis, vocals and guitar, Charlie Six on drums and Fishcake on bass.

How long have Urotsukidoji IV been together?

On and off, for about eight years, we broke up and people have been demanding that we play again, so we’re reforming and just about to start recording. A lot more people than I realised had seen the band and enjoyed it, we’d played all around the country.

People have described us as being post hard-core. We’ve been likened to Fugazi and At The Drive In, but we’re probably a bit harder than both of those, a bit more personal than political. We sound very raw.

I’ve recorded in the past as a solo artist ‘I Am Ellis’, I’ve also written stuff for other people, including Louisa Hall, from Evesham.

Urotsukidoji IV are going to be recording an album?

It’s going to be a mixture of old and new songs, not sure of the title yet, possibly ‘Ignore Us Now’.

Songs of yours we should listen out for?

‘We Love Your Apathy’, ‘I See Stars’, 'Wasted Ideal' and new songs ‘Ignore Us Now’ and ‘Children Of God’.

Gigs?

We won’t be gigging until we’ve finished off the new songs, we’ll start local and then gig around the country, just see how it goes.

We’re bringing back our old website: www.u-iv.com.

Are there other local bands we should look out for?

There’s a great band that’s just moved away to make their millions called Unsung Hero, they’ve supported us in the past. No other huge acts at the moment, apart from Louisa Hall, who is really a name to look out for, an acoustic girl. She’s from Evesham, studied in Wolverhampton. She’s writing new material at the moment. She’s a bit scared of playing live, a bit nervous, but amazing.

Is there anything you’d like to say?

UIV is a story about youth and about a quest for truth, about reality and staying in a state of idealism, and I think that’s one thing we need these days. Don’t grow old.

How old are you?

I’m 27, but I still have the same ideals I had when I was 18, 19. The truth is not something that can be written down on a piece of paper, the truth is something deeper, something inside us.
