Catherine ( Cat ) Beasley an Explorer Scout from Wolverhampton gave loads of money away. “It was really exciting, to begin with the Scouts from overseas did not know what the bags of money contained and when they realised it was chocolate money, they were even more surprised. "We swopped the money for different kinds of food from around the world. We exchanged chocolate for a haggis, which was not nothing like a balti; we also tried American pancakes, traditional Yorkshire pudding and dried fish from Finland”. Nicki Pugh from Sandwell really enjoyed the Gilwell Adventure where she took part in a range of exciting activities. “Challenge Valley was very difficult, especially the hill at the end. After that I went trampolining, its more tiring than it looks from the side. I really enjoyed the BMX, bikes especially beating the Leaders”. The Splash! Programme is an off site activity themed around water and including activities such as raft- building, water slides, canoeing and learning about the science of water. The Energise Zone is where Scouts can sharpen their general camping skills, chill out for a few hours, watch a circus, or take part in meditation and yoga sessions to relax after a fun-packed schedule. A Global Development Village is to help Scouts understand the positive impact they can have on the world; where they will learn about global issues, including how communications technology is bringing the world closer together, and to discuss issues around world poverty and other key issues affecting the world. A Faith and Beliefs Zone enables the young people to explore and discover information about different faiths around the world. Euroville offers the Scouts the opportunity to experience and value the culture, creativity, arts, sports and technology from every country in Europe.

The Starburst Project sends all 10,000 participants off-site to do a local community project for a day which will help to ensure that EuroJam leaves a lasting and positive legacy on its local environment. Wednesday 3rd August was “Celebrate Europe Day” at EuroJam. After a very wet start to the day, the young people enjoyed a series of activities which enabled them to learn, and experience, more about the various cultures, religions, and traditions across Europe. The participants will leave EuroJam on Tuesday 9th August. For many of them, the 12 days they’ve spent at EuroJam, the new skills they’ve learnt, new experiences they’ve shared, and new friends they’ve made, will make a difference for the rest of their lives. Plus, whilst at EuroJam they will have completed a community service project (“Starburst”) which will have made a difference to the people of Essex and the surrounding counties. |
